I do have a problem with the game being altered to coddle the people who wont even be playing as much. With that said, I will always think that CoD4 had the best xp/leveling and unlock system.
Yeah, I do agree that altering the game from what it was isn't fair. And with only a few hours in me and my experience from this past weekend, I'm not really qualified to know if this is a change for the better or worse. At worst it seems like the value of skill has been diminished because of this change, and at best we'll all be sitting on stockpiles of arms seeing if we can trade everything for one of 10 in game false mustaches.

What say you all though - has Valve been good about swooping in and changing things they try out if they fail miserably? I'm still really new to TF2.

I don't see why this is a bad thing.... they are just introducing fun items to be gained after a while by dedicated players - its not like these items will have a dramatic effect on gameplay, right?
Erm, the weapon unlocks are tied into the new system, they have a very dramatic effect on gameplay...

Don't forget this is the same company that added marketplace pricing to Counterstrike: Source.
Oh christ I'd forgotten abuot those, $10'000 for body armour and $6000 for a Deagle, suddenly everyone packs a shotgun. I wonder which clown thought that system up.

I am not sure about tf2, but they have yet to fix l4d, and it is broken to the point that I haven't played it in god knows how long.

Team Fortress 2 was always an MMO.

On topic, better this than tying them to achievements. I don't play TF2 on my PC, but from what I've heard, the vast majority of people earning new weapons were people who didn't deserve them because they cheated to get their achievements. The system that's here to replace it is hardly perfect, but then, it's only been out for, like, a week. Give it time.

It's really not that bad. It's a really fun game and most of the unlockable weapons don't make a difference. Player skill still rules over random chance. Honestly you should give it a shot, as I feel that most of the concerns are unfounded.

ive got the Xbox version and was fairly pissed that valve arent giving us the class updates and maps until they finish the PC ones, but hey, I can spit at Ps3, who are last on the Queue :p Valve seems to have a soft spot for 360...(Waves l4d 360 version in the face of my ps fanboy friends) But hey, for now we are untainted, and the only place to find the pure, raw hard game underneath all those buggy updates. hooray for default weapons ONLY. hooray for SKYWALKING!

hear hear, old beans! Those PC chaps really are quite rude. I would challenge one of them to fistycuffs, but I left my gloves at home and I really dont wish to get blood on my hands, its ever so troublesome to clean off!...

That's right, in response to people hitting achievement servers to grind out the next weapon unlocks Valve has introduced a new system, based entirely off grinding. If you're one of those people who only gets to play a few hours a week, well, sucks to be you.
I'm sorry, but how exactly would you plan on getting all of these achievements with only a few hours of play a week?

Maybe I'm against this system because I don't plan on healing a heavy who plans to kill 4 people with his fucking fist but I'm glad there is a drop system. Most of the new weapons have a massive weakness that balances them out so they were never that appealing. Not to mention the hardcore players should be rewarded before those that achievement grind right (notice i said before, meaning eventually everyone will get the weapon)? Achievements are their own trophy no need to throw rewards on them.

It would have been better if they'd made some new maps, but then, I believe that the only good levels in Team Fortress 2 are 2fort and Dustbowl.

That's right - the overplayed ones.
Can't believe you actually like 2fort... I'm gonna send your post to every one of my friends, nobody will believe me this shit..

Four easy steps to get all the weapons and items.
1. Find a server with no AFK kicking.
2. Join said server.
3. Join the spectators.
4. Leave your computer on overnight.

You'll get everything, unless you're really unlucky and get a whole lot of duplicates.

I actually like it too, but probably only because I've played it like, twice. My favorite is Gravel Pit though.

No doubt by now most PC TF2 players have encountered the new spy/sniper update, probably with a mixed reaction of confusion and horror given the many, many responses to it so far in every game I've played.

In response Valve has explained the system they are implementing and how it works, I really wish they hadn't.

Valve said:
That new system watches the amount of time that players are playing TF2, and gives them a chance to find items at regular intervals. They aren't guaranteed to get the item at those points, but they have a pretty good chance. We based the system on granting items on the amount of time played because we don't want players to have to do weird things like join achievement grinding servers to get new content. Basing it off time also has the benefit of ensuring that if you play a lot of TF2, you're going to get more items than players who don't.
That's right, in response to people hitting achievement servers to grind out the next weapon unlocks Valve has introduced a new system, based entirely off grinding. If you're one of those people who only gets to play a few hours a week, well, sucks to be you.
Just in case you think this is a one off and that TF2 is not about to become an MMO, there's more.
Gotta disagree with the idea that you've got to grind. The whole point of grinding is that you are killing x number of y object over and over and over again, all this is doing is giving a player an incentive to stay on a server a bit longer and play a few more rounds...at least thats my take on it anyway.

I think its affected by the length of time a person has played on a server, not total time played but I could be wrong (and knowing me i am...and kicking myself for deciding to reset my stats a week before the patch)

But calling it an MMO because of that is quite frankly just stupid. Its just a different way of doing things that they're trying out and no doubt with the negative responses people are giving it they'll be coming up with a different way of allow players to get new items... or at least i hope so anyway.
