True, I've got quite a few people on my friends list that do the idle on a server thing, but eh.. I think its a case of the person rather than the system because essentially your more than likely going to get the items soon enough in a few weeks or so cause I don't think anyone's that unlucky to not have all of the items in a months timefix-the-spade said:Unfortunately the new system is Grind defined (hooray aliteration), the best way to unlock things is to switch on TF2 and leave it alone for a few hours. It pretty much pares grinding down to it's very essence, do nothing, but do it for a really long time.gibboss28 said:Gotta disagree with the idea that you've got to grind. The whole point of grinding is that you are killing x number of y object over and over and over again, all this is doing is giving a player an incentive to stay on a server a bit longer and play a few more rounds...at least thats my take on it anyway.
I think its affected by the length of time a person has played on a server, not total time played but I could be wrong (and knowing me i am...and kicking myself for deciding to reset my stats a week before the patch)
But calling it an MMO because of that is quite frankly just stupid. Its just a different way of doing things that they're trying out and no doubt with the negative responses people are giving it they'll be coming up with a different way of allow players to get new items... or at least i hope so anyway.
That's been relfected on the server rankings, a map called acievement-idle has suddenly appeared and it's one of the most played at the moment. Three guesses what you do there.
The MMO comment is fair enough, it was as much trolling for a reaction as it is myopinion (and it worked). I think Valve may instigate a semi U-turn over (Right angle turn?). They probably aren't going to ditch the current system and trading, but they might re-instate the milestone achievements.
A bit like market value weapon pricing in CS:S, that's still there but as a server side option now.
Though thinking about it I am starting to wonder why they didn't put in the milestones for the sniper/spy, I would have thought use both the achievement milestones and the random unlocks: this way while your working to getting the items via the achievements you've got a chance of getting it before hand.
I cant see a problem with the trading system though..well that may be because a friend of mine has got 2 afros for the demoman and I'm getting one of them.
