Gotta disagree with the idea that you've got to grind. The whole point of grinding is that you are killing x number of y object over and over and over again, all this is doing is giving a player an incentive to stay on a server a bit longer and play a few more rounds...at least thats my take on it anyway.

I think its affected by the length of time a person has played on a server, not total time played but I could be wrong (and knowing me i am...and kicking myself for deciding to reset my stats a week before the patch)

But calling it an MMO because of that is quite frankly just stupid. Its just a different way of doing things that they're trying out and no doubt with the negative responses people are giving it they'll be coming up with a different way of allow players to get new items... or at least i hope so anyway.
Unfortunately the new system is Grind defined (hooray aliteration), the best way to unlock things is to switch on TF2 and leave it alone for a few hours. It pretty much pares grinding down to it's very essence, do nothing, but do it for a really long time.

That's been relfected on the server rankings, a map called acievement-idle has suddenly appeared and it's one of the most played at the moment. Three guesses what you do there.

The MMO comment is fair enough, it was as much trolling for a reaction as it is myopinion (and it worked). I think Valve may instigate a semi U-turn over (Right angle turn?). They probably aren't going to ditch the current system and trading, but they might re-instate the milestone achievements.
A bit like market value weapon pricing in CS:S, that's still there but as a server side option now.
True, I've got quite a few people on my friends list that do the idle on a server thing, but eh.. I think its a case of the person rather than the system because essentially your more than likely going to get the items soon enough in a few weeks or so cause I don't think anyone's that unlucky to not have all of the items in a months time

Though thinking about it I am starting to wonder why they didn't put in the milestones for the sniper/spy, I would have thought use both the achievement milestones and the random unlocks: this way while your working to getting the items via the achievements you've got a chance of getting it before hand.

I cant see a problem with the trading system though..well that may be because a friend of mine has got 2 afros for the demoman and I'm getting one of them.

To you and every other half-wit who thinks they're so clever with the Obama-like "IT'S CHANGE!".

Imagine you have a very sexy wife... It's likely you never will, but pretend for a second... This is a fantastic woman... Very sexy, very hot, you do her every day for 2 years... Then one day you come home and out of nowhere she's a man. All of her.

You see what we're getting what? IT's NOT "CHANGE". It's "Shitty change for the worse".

I will never empathize with people who cried "ZOMFG I CAN'T GET MY UNLCOSK CAUISE IS 2 HARD!". I will admit the last unlocks were a bit hard sometimes (specially the medic's), but that could easily be solved by tweaking the achievements.

But you know what? If you're not good enough, TOUGH SHIT. It's better to have a system that rewards people for being good at the game than one that throws shit around randomly. Companies need to stop dumbing down their games so the completely inept "don't feel bad for sucking". No. DO feel bad for sucking. You should! That's what drives you to become better.

Gentlemen, we are witnessing a historic event!

This just might be:

The time VALVe screwed up!

Let's hope not, but from what I've seen, so far...

Well, it was already going down this path. You could change your weapons to perform a differet team role.

Yes, you could mash them up with boolets, or you could mash them up with fists made of Ham.

But seriously, Fist patrolling became more intensive when players realized the significance of what it could do. Nevertheless; I still fist patrol occasionally.

Can I just double check, because I thought the new system had replaced the achievement unlocks, but I'm reading you can still unlock the weapons the 'old' way?

So, people are complaining because nothing has changed except for the fact that you might get a 'free' weapon every now and then?

Or did I miss a meeting?

If you want a specific weapon, then do the achievement, surely? or wait for the trading to open up, by the sound of it, most people will happily trade in a dozen useless weapons for one that they want.

All Valve could really do right now, to make their customers happy would have a toggle option from TF2 to TF2 vanilla, where there's no extra weapons and no chances of extras, eliminating all complaints, providing there's a few servers for people who want to play like that.

Yeah, I agree with this guy. Most of TF2's achievements have little to do with grinding.

There are so few, I can probably count them.

GENERAL

Hardcore - Get 1000 kills

I'm being generous with this one. If you never play anything except for medic then this one will take a while.

MEDIC

Grand Rounds - Heal 200 teammates after they've called for 'medic'

If you play medic for a little while, this one isn't bad either, so more generosity on my part.

Infernal Medicine - Extinguish 100 burning teammates

Just heal guys on fire for a few seconds. ooh, boring grindy.

Intern/Specialist - Get 7000/10,000 heal points in one life

This can be grindy, depending on how you go about it. I got stuck into the combat, healing my team as any medic should and only just got specialist after a long, intense fight. If you sit in your spawn healing people it will take forever.

Chief of Staff - Accumulate 1,000,000 heal points

Yeah, this is grindy.

Does it hurt when I do this? - Kill 50 scouts with your syringe gun

This can take ages. Depends how good you are with the gun, and how bad your scout enemies are.

Peer Review - Kill 50 medics with your bonesaw

This is grindy too. It really does take forever, the number should be halved IMO.

So, in the general pack we have 1 achievement out of 17 as grind and in the medic pack we have 6 out of 39 grind. We see some more in some other packs, but I can't be bothered to count any more than the first two.

With this in mind, I don't think they needed to change the item system at all.

tbh I play rarely and yet it isn't that hard to get weapons so people who grinded were just lazy. I have all the pyro and 2 of the medic weapons because I play those two classes a lot. In my first five minutes playing sniper I got 5 achievments after the update. Achievments were a good way to get them, it's just some were stupidly hard to get like heal 100000000 points or whatever (thats a random number of zeroes there) but there were enough really easy ones like all the taunt ones to balance those out. It's all those damn farmers that are responsible for this!

As far as I'm concerned, the rewards for playing TF2 (at any level of competance) should be (a) having fun and (b) getting better at it.

I think upgrades should just be introduced for everyone, rather than earned in any sense through time or achievements or specific tasks, and and the good and the committed can just revel in the joy of being better than the noobs at using them.

I think the new update is really good. I like the idea that there's all these interesting features coming out. But don't start a Slippery Slope argument that this will lead to an rpg. We're just going to get varying weapons and some hats. That's it. On the whole I like the new system. It's not perfect but if we can trade that'll be good.

It restores achievements to what it's meant to be and it doesn't prejudice against those who can't kill 4 snipers as scout under a full moon while performing open heart surgery with the Heavy's sandwich. I think it's quite hypocritical that we all say how much we like the update and unlocks and then, once we start getting them, start biting the hand that feeds us. If you don't like new features try Counter-Strike, otherwise have faith in Valve. They haven't let us down yet.

Quite a rant there and all becuase they changed it slightly. I don't care about it so i can happily luagh at you. It just requires you to play it and considering your unlocking special items i think if you care so much about that you should have to fucking play the thing properly. But like i said i play it and don't care, i guess i am more intrested in my life while you are having weird fantasys of team fortress being a hot woman.

Someone's thick, and extremely slow seeing as Valve has long since sided with us and gave back milestones.

I'm guessing you also don't know what an analogy is... Or correct spelling... Or coherent arguments... Oh joy...

As a final attempt to get a rational thought through your head (an exercise in futility I'm afraid), milestones force you to play the game to unlock game content, "random drops" forces you to grind. One rewards not sucking (milestones), the other rewards playing (or idling) endlessly.

Like many implementations of Valve that make no sense or are unusual, they probably know a lot better what they're doing then what we complain about. Improvements are on the way, be patient.

Oh and the console commands
/ TF2 MMO
"TF_MMO_LFG" "Looking For Group"
"TF_MMO_Quest1" "You must kill %s1 %s2 to complete this quest."
"TF_MMO_Monster1" "Boars"
"TF_MMO_Monster2" "Rats"
"TF_MMO_Monster3" "Bats"
"TF_MMO_Monster4" "Wolves"
"TF_MMO_Monster5" "Spiders"

Are all useless joke codes.
[HEADING=3]OR ARE THEY?[/HEADING]
No they're jokes.
