I'm going to have to go with a 'cry moar' response on this one. The porn industry is notoriously survivable in the face of all manner of setbacks and economic downturns. That they're suffering the same impact from piracy as other forms of entertainment simply means they had ample time to see it coming. And this is their response? If they're serious, they need to take practical action. Where is their Steam or their iTunes? If they want to call themselves creative artists, they should get creative about adapting to the modern world.

Strange to see that almost no-one wants to step up and support this industry against pirates , when there's usually about a 50/50 split on gaming piracy threads.
Not going to claim to be an expert, but I'm sure I read most of the female talent (unless they've 'made it' and are known) get around $500 for a hard video shoot. I'd suggest that someone higher up the food chain is making ridiculous amounts of cash on the DVDs and net sales, and again, that the market will evolve and adapt, and if it ends up that Hollywood style budgets are not sustainable, then we'll be seeing a lot more amateur stuff.
That I can deal with, as I find it difficult to mentally attach myself to someone like Jenna Jameson, whereas with more 'normal' looking people, there's at least some distant fantasy where you might have a shot if you met them, which is all part of the porn thing right, placing yourself in the male role?
Sure the amateurs get (sorry) screwed by piracy just as much as the larger companies, but the amateurs tend to not have the overheads, and unlike gaming, where even if you enjoy writing games, there's a hell of a lot of hard work involved, a lot of people like fucking, and they can probably find someone who'll point a camera at them for free, or at least cheaply.
Also, the smaller companies are more likely to fill niche markets, like surgically unenhanced women (shock, they can be sexy too), women over 30, women over a size 8, etc, etc. Of course none of those are niche markets, it's what a huge percentage of men go for IRL, but we're made to believe Jenna Jameson is the only way you can be sexy, and I for one am pleased to leave that behind, as even Jenna Jameson doesn't look like that without a surgeon, hairstylist, make up artist, lighting tech, etc etc.
(Note, not knocking Jenna, she's a good looking woman, just saying she's not the only option out there, we've all got so much choice now the internet exists, and we'll be voting with our wallets.)

I just had to laugh the entire time. I don't know why, but I had to. But speaking of piracy, a lot of people don't have a choice economically. Take where I'm living for instance. A video game here can cost close to 100 dollars. That's almost twice what it is in the states. People here can't afford that. 23 percent of the country are below the poverty line, and we have the second highest rate of inflation in Latin America, which sits at 13.9 percent. That coupled with the increasing loss of value of the Costa Rica Colon makes it harder for people not to pirate. Especially video games as sad as it may be. It's either throw down 80+ dollars per game, or modify your console for 60 dollars and buy copies at a fraction of the cost. With an economy that has such high import taxes, most people here go for the latter.
