You know that feeling when a ship you've been traveling on for ages comes to port, and you step off for a few weeks to do some other stuff. You come back, and the boat is on fire with all your friends and acquaintances having an improvised Purge, and you feel left out?

I'm feeling something like that right now. What happened here while I was doing IRL stuff?!

Definitely worth a consideration though it is a bit cliqueish there at first so either lurk a bit or be prepared to have a side foisted upon you.
Eh, they can foist all they want.

EDIT: Oh, that person. I don't see them around much anymore actually.

So it looks like Giant Bomb is our best bet. It's active enough with allowance of image posting. And I think the staff seems competent.
I'm not that fond of Giantbomb. The people are kind of all the same. I think it comes from being into the video portion of the site. They almost all follow the staff/crew and are generally like-minded, calling each other duders. When I mentioned that I don't even watch the videos in one of my threads, a few of the users found it weird that I was even there and said I was missing out on a lot of discussions that were related to the videos.

The forum code is kind of shitty. I wish they used BB codes instead of those weird uploaded pictures that are confusing to arrange around your text.
I never bothered with Giant Bomb, because they seemed like GameSpot 2.0. Just a slightly smarter hive-mind, but users or reviewers who nitpick over minor stuff. I usually don't have that much time for forums, but I like it here. Besides, I ain't going on reddit or NeoGaf, all people do there is complain about shit or fuss up a storm 95% over nothing. I get along fine with most of the users here, and the ones that look like a problem child I either avoid or don't bother responding to them. I learned that the easy way on the IMDB forums. And speaking of forums, I have visited GameFaqs in a decade, nor do I plan to.

The notable exception was Epic Wynn, and honestly? You guys fueled that little dumpster fire.
To this day I still don't understand what the fuss was over regarding epic wynn. He never bothered me, yet apparently had a way to piss off normally opposed cliques of people, i'm legit impressed.

Re :passive aggressiveness certainly doesn't stay in 1 thread imo, people don't just forget the discussion they had with another user just because they are now in another thread. Passive aggressiveness spreads like a plague and lingers in the air so everyone breathes it in, to the point i feel a lot of discussions on the escapist are dominated exactly by that.
I feel like Wynn is far from the only example, if anything he was just a rare example of an accepted target where apparently it was open season on him and EVERYONE was invited, one of the very few times i've ever seen this site come together on something.
It would be beautiful, poetic even, if it didn't result in someone being chased off the site..
From what I gathered, autistic guy know's how to code and was chased away because how dare he know how to code. Or something like that.

...That's a rather interesting take on a situation where a guy was literally trying to break the site and render people's web browsers inoperable.

You lot are being rather pleasant.

"We should migrate to a new site."
"But I fucking hate all of you."
Well, that's the Escapist community spirit we all know and love.
Wow, I've never gotten the impression things were this bad. I like coming to this site, even with as little as is left, but I've almost exclusively visited Genreral and Gaming Discussions (aside from watching some shows when there were still plenty). And in those differend threads I thought people were generally OK with one another.

Guess it was kinda right to stay away from the social discussion stuff. Still, reading how much people enjoy finding a new site and refusing to share the names feels kinda sad.

Either I missed some huge fun that went down or that's a bit of an exaggeration, at most I saw him post malformed HTML which led to wonky looking thread pages, I missed the breaking of the site and rendering people's browsers inoperable parts I'm afraid.

In my case, I mostly just don't want to cause the mods headaches on the other forum I frequent. Handful of folks around here would just end up catching permabans right quick and I don't want that associated with me, you know?

I personally plan on staying on the ship until there's no more ship to stay on. If someone manages to find a nice enough forum for a lot of us to go to I might join that, but otherwise I'm probably just going to not bother with forums anymore. The reason for me isn't that I don't like the people here, but rather that I've yet to see a forum that looked and worked similarly to the Escapist that I liked.

Well that's one way to ignore the annoying self-aggrandizing rhetoric and the results of the 'coding'.

Although it may not have been clear in my post, I was actually asking IceForce for examples or proof of all the "damage" that he supposedly did because I only ever saw him do relatively harmless things over in the Wild West, nothing that could break sites, web browsers or jeopardize the servers this site runs on.

I'm ready to become the next big contributor on this site. I have very strong opinions about movies and video games, you see.

Maybe its just time for forums to die all together? Seems like no one is ever happy, everyone else is always the problem, the mods are always doing too much or not enough, strawmen are always everywhere, no one ever praises your favorite game enough and the game you hate the most is always too popular, and above all people just aren't as smart as you.

Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn't the .com you go to.
