Not really, if you just make music for yourself and don't care about what other people would think then it's all good. On the other hand if you attempt to make something people won't like on purpose you're again doing it wrong. And Black Metal is p. good bro, same with Grindcore.
Yeah I agree. It's just that most Grindcore and Black Metal bands are the ones who have genuinely expressed that they make their music for the joy of making music, not because they want to impress people or be famous or anything like that.

While the majority of other artists and bands tend to get into music making in order to get famous and/or rich.

I just wanna be a rock star! <--- this motivation is very common. But rarely so amongst Black metal and Grindcore bands.

EDIT: Also, Soul Coughing may or may not be obscure. I'm not sure.
ISRAEL! Can you spell his name without looking it up? 'Cause I can't. But that doesn't stop me from loving Over the Rainbow. <3

Reading over this thread..Wow..Death/black metal bands are by and large a pathetic and attention-seeking lot, aren't they?
Nope.

Most of the more inflamatory band names aren't death or black metal...

In every genre you have people that actually enjoy making the music (few) and people who make the music for ulterior motives (EG Black metal bands trying to be kvlt)

I have to copy and paste his last name every time. His music is the best for just chilling.

Someone's a fan of Klay World: Off the Table.

That movie is hilarious and the soundtrack is killer. So I've heard of all three.

Devotchka
If you mean The Devotchkas, the all girl punk band, or DeVotchKa, the gypsy/cabaret-ish band, I have heard of them. Also, I'm, sure some people have heard of Gogol Bordello, but they are still pretty unknown.

Wistaria
Quarashi
Sólstafir
Jeff, Who?
Sororicide
Dysthymia

They're all Icelandic bands, but just so have a chance of someone recognizing them I named bands that have gotten at least some attention outside Iceland.
