I see... they want more money for DLC so they ban mods. Greedy bastards.
I still don't understand the server restriction but I'm sure someone smart will find a way to bypass it.

Remember the days when as time passed, more features were added to the games? You know, like taking advantage of the hardware to create a better gaming experience...

Not any more. Who the fuck thought that taking away great features like dedicated servers, mod and custom map support was a good idea? Why release a game that has less features then the prequel?!

And to all the people saying "this is how the console versions play so stop whining": PC has more versatile hardware, we pay extra money for it and expect more features in return, this is how it always was and I see no reason why it should change. The dedicated server system is 10x times better then mach making.

I think what you all don't realize is how simple mods can be and how much better than can make the game. Say in COD4 you hate Juggernaut and Stopping Power but love the rest of the game the way it is...with a mod you can do that on your server. Say you like helicopters but don't want kills from the helicopter to earn you another, mod your server and you can do that. All the fancy conversions and custom maps are just advanced things to add content to the game. Most of us rely on mods to fix the problems with the game. For example there is a bug that allows the m21 and p90 to run farther, the mod on my clan's server fixes that. There is a bug that prevents silenced g3 from knifing properly, the mod we run fixes that. We have also added spawn protection and anti-bunny hopping measures.

For a better idea what mods can do go to openwarfare.com.

Even without mods dedicated servers allow for much greater preference. We make our own playlists, we can play any gametype on any map at any time while remaining ranked and open to the public. We can play hardcore or softcore only from day 1, no ranking to unlock game types. Consolers should be demanding more options, not berating PC gamers for being unhappy at losing our options.

Piracy is their number one concern on this. They control the servers so unregistered copies will be refused.
How much do you wanna bet that'll be cracked and there'll be private servers running within a week?

Making it simpler for who though?

I would like to find a PC gamer who has had trouble finding a server on TF2, or any number of games that allow dedicated servers, because perhaps they can show me where the other beings of myth are!

Oh well..I was only getting it for the single player anyway. Still can't help that feel this is just silly though.

Damn, I feel kinda sorry for you PC players. I mean, what they are taking away are some of the advantages of PC online gaming, right?

Wow. So along with charging MORE for the PC version, with no special editions either, they also have to make it as much like the console versions?!

I call bullshit on this. This is a massive shit on both the fans and PC gaming in general. Just because it's one of 2009's most anticipated games of the year doesn't excuse them from fucking over people. and they'd have to be dumb to think they can get away with this shit scot-free.

There are people who have trouble and that is why the TF2 browser has change so many times to move the mod servers in and out of the main tab. Now they have more filters, but the issue remains that people who only want to play Vanilla have trouble finding those servers and people who have modded servers have trouble finding people to try out their changes.

The issue becomes how do you effectively communicate to the general public what has been changed on a modded server and still allow them to find vanilla servers without completely filtering out those who do something as simple as banning a perk.

IW seems to have taken far too radical a position on this the problem. They want us to be able to set more dvars, but they don't want the public in general to have a less than uniform experience. Sort of a McDonalds food tastes the same everywhere but you can still special order. Trouble is that they completely decreased the quality to do this (like McDonalds).

I think better server browsers with less binary filters and more displays of information (like xfire server pages or the TF2 browser) would have been a step in the right direction instead of a step backwards.

This is retarded. This kind of crap should not even be happening on consoles; the fact that it does, does not in any way make what Infinity Ward is trying to do ok. I don't game on my PC very much at all, and prefer consoles but I have been dismayed by the way that this craptastic experience has been pushed onto console gamers just the same. I am even more dismayed that companies now feel like they can try and pull this stunt with PC gamers. I remember beating to death games like Jedi Academy because of the various mods that I could download freely. Heck I am hoping that TFU on the PC will have mods. My computer is already mostly upgraded all I need are a graphics card and (Most likely) Windows 7 and I will be beating TFU to death.

As someone who primarily plays console games and cares little for multiplayer I totally understand where people like Caliostro are coming from.

ps. The practice of buying or renting a server out could easily be done on modern consoles. There is no technical reason why this kind of thing is not done.

Oh no!
A company is being greedy and shunning consumer's interests in favor of profit!
Quick someone start an online petition to stop this madness!
/sarcasm

All silliness aside, this is horrible but there's nothing we do can change this.

If you don't buy the game, IW will say its because you probably pirated it.
If you pirate the game, IW will think their product is glorious for being pirated.
If you DO purchase the game, IW will think they're succeeding and console-ize the next game even more.
If we voice our opinions, IW wont care because its not PC gamers they're making money off of, its the millions of prepubescent kids who flock to the CoD brand name.

Because not giving a damn about the community, feelings of others and having their sights set solely on profits is the trademark definition of communist.

Oh wait.
In a historical perspective, that's quite accurate.

Anyway, that wasn't the point. They are taking away privileges and advantages of PC gaming, trying to "make things more equal", which sounds an awful lot like "the redistribution of wealth" to me. On top of that, it was a joke. It's funny how some take these things so very seriously.

There is another option.

Don't buy it, don't pirate it. It's the ultimate "fuck you" to any gaming company.

"Suck it. Your game is not good enough to DOWNLOAD FOR FREE. That's right, even if it's FUCKING FREE, it still costs MORE than I'm willing to invest in it."

Surely you should be more concerned with the gameplay? This sounds like a pretty minor interference.
Minor? If they did this with CoD1 there wouldn't be a CoD2.

Well, fuck. I really wanted to buy this game, but now, I'm not sure. Especially because my purchase will be contributing towards a trend of continued game development retardation.

Simple. Activision wanted this game OUT on time, to maximize profit splash. Infinity Ward wasn't given the option of delaying anymore, and were forced to do a hard port.

Blame Activision, not IW

So has Infinity Ward issued any kind of statement to the outcry yet? Any "We understand your concerns but our system is actually great because..." or "We apologize for the discontent, and will try to address your concerns in the coming months..." ? Or are they just sitting in silence?
