Hilarious, actualy shows the mental age of 90% of console owners. You've been bent over and screwed for so long you cant even feel it.

I canceled pre-order and simply wont be buying it. I'm a veteran FPS and started way back with medal of honour, watched BF2 hit PC owners in the ass with their "ranked/ripoffs" but at least you still had the option .... now all option has gone ... why buy? Silly mistake

This is my biggest issue with consoles right now, specially the 360... They're getting people used to metaphorically taking it up the ass... And liking it.

Any day now companies will start trying to charge you to play the multiplayer of the game you already bought, and we'll have people going "WHAS SO BAD ABOuT DAT?? THE 360 HAS BEEN LIEK DAT!".

People are being robbed, and loving it!

I refuse to buy this game if there is no support for dedicated servers, server listings, joining friends on online servers, and mods. I'll just stick with CoD 4, thank you very much.

This. I wish more games would follow Epic's example with UT3 and make mods possible on consoles. (Minus the bs of having to buy the game twice if you wanted to make mods but decided to play on ps3.)

I just won't buy the game if this is the case. I've had private servers actually breed friendships since the same people (close to me) always played on one in particular, and we decided to meet up. Now stuff like this can't happen. Thanks, Activision!

IMO UT99 had the best online system, lets just use that? A list of servers, browseable by ping, players, gametype, ping, map and mods. It also had a built in IRC client.

How the shit have we gone so completely ass-backwards?

They are doing this because in both WaW and MW on PC people could mod their servers and level their character in 2 rounds.

The CoD series used to be a PC game but MW made it a console game so guess what? You are getting crappy PC ports of console games now. If you don't like it, just don't buy it. As a consumer that is your biggest power.

I don't even like the CoD series (especially not the fourth) but this is so ass backwards it even has me up in arms. Removing dedicated servers, mods and so forth is like... it's a huge step backwards and takes gaming back to the dark ages.

How are a community like the one I'm a member of going to play this game if we can't have our own servers and moderate them, thus kicking AND banning anyone who even swears twice (one warning not heeded and your mostly banned)? I like my gaming free of idiots, biggots, punks and annoying jerks, so I enjoy well policed servers. This assures that we can't play MW2, that's for sure. I hear that there is a lot of cursing on Live? No mods around patrolling the servers then? Fuck Live and half assed matchmaking without proper moderation.

I feel sorry for console users that don't even know what they are missing. Match making my ass. There is a reason why I have never played online on my PS3. It sucks.

What!?! It's only a step back of about 10 years!

But see people, this is the thing. I think "no swearing" rules are utterly idiotic... And the above poster thinks they're awesome and I'm an idiot... The beauty of dedicated servers is, we can BOTH be happy! He'll have his no swearing servers, I'll have mine free-swearing servers... Everyone's happy... It's one of the few things that DIDN'T need fixing.

Thanks for the reply. And for showing how dedicated servers are the way to do it.

I should add that I don't die when people swear. Hell, I do it all the time IRL. But I do enjoy playing in a friendly atmosphere where idiots who are rude, demeaning, racist and so forth are not welcome. So a no swear rule makes that easier to enforce. :)

Also: I don't think you're an idiot. :p You just would be kicked from the servers I play on.

Here's a point:

Call of Duty as a series died when Call of Duty: United Offensive came out.

Why people say "CALL OF DUTY 4 AND MW2 ARE MINT AND WILL PWN LOL?!" I have no idea.

Call of Duty 4 was a meh "Look at this gun with 500 bullets that fires 9 of these slugs per millisecond? SKILLZ KILLED THROUGH WALL WITH SPRAY".

I remember the good old days of Call of Duty, when if you didn't use a rifle you'd get shafted. If you chose a machinegun, you'd better have been good with it because spray didn't work at all.

OT: Console people don't seem to understand this... Or the point of a topic aimed at PC gamers o_O

Secondary Point: This topic is about the game on PC, flames from either side aren't actually aiding anything are they?

Main Point: I'm a part of the modding community, I enjoy making mods, I enjoy playing mods and I enjoy uploading and discussing said mods. In my opinion, this is just an utter slap in the face from IW. It costs them nothing, in essence to allow dedicated servers, yet they're holding on to every penny like a Jew :)o stereotypes!).

Not being able to mod a server than I own, having no freedom to chose what I want to play how I want to play it ruins what PC gaming stands for. That is what most of the upset from PC gamers is for here, the consolers don't seem to understand this.

OffTopic: DoWII tried an Xbox style matchmaking system, and that's utter balls.

Final Point: Half the shitty console games stemmed from mods on PC games in the first place, never forget that.

well I gues us consel gamers don't know how crappy we have it since.........well................that sounds just like the last 2 online systems to me, I guess PC gamers had it different?
Haha, thats what I was thinking. OH NO! Its exactly the same as all the other online FPS... wait a tic!

Then I realized it was on PC, so I no longer care.
like wise, now I shall go back to my crappy non chosen servers and paid DLC, it is such a travesty
Seeing as you're 14 and probably never owned a gaming PC I'll excuse your ignorance.
Funny you should mention that (and I respect yor forgiveness, don't see that enough) since that's what the next big buy is, or was going to be I guess................DAM!!!!!!! NOW I CARE ABOUT THIS !!!!

Found an interesting article in support of dedicated servers from the PCG website, worth a read.

A dedicated server is a PC usually held within a bank of computers belonging to a private company or the game's own publisher. Dedicated server hosts have been part of PC gaming for decades; I think you can attribute some of the rise of multiplayer games like Counter-Strike and Call of Duty directly to their work.

Why?

1) Dedicated server hosts are judged by their reliability. If a server crashes, or an internet connection goes down, the gamers paying to host the game will complain, and they'll start to move elsewhere. This economic motivation forces server hosts to constantly improve their hardware, their internet connection, and their management tools. Compare that to the peer-to-peer networking that Infinity Ward developers are proposing, where the quality of the game will be entirely dependant on the gamer's own home web connection.

2) Dedicated servers are fair. Want to know why that player always seems to get the drop on you when you're playing Call of Duty on Xbox 360? It might be because he's the host of the game. In combat, data has to be bounced from his console, to yours, and back again, for you to impact on the game. Meanwhile, he doesn't have to wait on the round trip - he can fire as soon as he's ready. Hosts always have an advantage in peer-to-peer networked games.

3) Dedicated servers are adaptable. We don't know the details of what InfinityWard.net will offer, but there's little chance that the tickbox customisation options usually available to players in peer-to-peer matchmaking setups can match the level of control dedicated servers offer. That can include, but not be limited to: competitive players who run their own specific rulesets, to the spectator mode mods, to machinima friendly sets, to the expanded player counts, to the custom maps. That evolution of content is key to extending a PC game's lifespan, and improving that game. Enabling the community to host the mods and maps they choose is a good thing. Entire game development businesses have been built from gamers hosting dedicated servers for popular, low key games. Guys like Splash Damage (Enemy Territory, Brink), Tripwire Interactive (Red Orchestra, Killing Floor) simply wouldn't be around were it not for gamers putting up their own cash to pay for dedicated servers.

4) Dedicated servers create community. Don't think of them as a piece of hardware. Think of them as a place. PC Gamer hosts servers for Team Fortress 2, Killing Floor, and yes, Modern Warfare. We have plenty of regulars who are looking forward to playing Modern Warfare 2 together. If we had dedicated server code, we would definitely host our own place - it's good for our readers, and it's good to create magazine loyalty. Every month, we'll join the servers to play with them. We don't have to swap friends contacts, or pray that our skill levels will broadly match. We just double click the server, and we're playing together. PC Gamer isn't alone - communities worldwide love hosting servers for their members. Peer-to-peer matchmaking stops that happening. Now, that specific group of fans simply can't play together. Even worse, without dedicated servers we can't enforce our 'don't be a dick' policy. We can't ban racist or homophobic players, nor can we appoint our own moderators to look after our community when we're not online.

That's essentially what most of the problems have been. YES, THE LACK OF MODS AND DEDICATED SERVERS BREAKS THE GAME FOR A LOT OF GAMERS!!!!! How many times do we have to shout it into your ears before you start getting it?
Once, apparently, seeing as you've yet to do it prior besides base whining about the lack of it.

Pingieking said:
I personally know of over 40 people who will not buy the game anymore. Why? Because none of us play the single play parts,
If that's the case, then just mod the hell out of CoD4 multilayer and save yourself money. Build

Pingieking said:
and now we can't play the multiplayer parts that we actually like.
I'm not entirely sure what this refers to. They won't play multilayer because...matchmaking isn't as freeform or they can't use aimbots anymore? It seems like the latter is what the modding thing is addressing.

Pingieking said:
We're stuck with the shitty portions of the multiplayer that none of us wants to play.
And yet hundreds of thousands of 360 players will be immensely satisfied by it. Are we just easier to please or something?

Pingieking said:
We're signing the petition to let the developers know that if they do take those features out of the game, they're not going to get our 70 dollars. That's not really bitching, that's more like being good customers; giving feedback and letting IW have a chance to get our money.
While I realize that petition is a good way to get things done, I feel like objecting to not making you king of your own domain seems a bit...petty.

Pingieking said:
And the "we're getting the same version now, so stop bitching" arguement is flawed at best. How about EA makes their games par by giving your X360 version of Madden 10 the same graphics and online capabilities of the Wii version?
You're acting as if EA doesn't already try to do the gaming community up the ass on a regular basis.

Pingieking said:
Or better yet, how about IW made MW3 for the all the consoles; the PS3 and X360 versions will be identical to the Wii version, with the crappy graphics, online capabilities, and lack of trophies. Are you willing to take that shit from them?
...somehow I don't think hyperbole is going to help your argument. Dramatically altering the graphics system, somehow infecting Xbox Live with the stupid virus, and removing the vague amusing but ultimately not that valuable achievements is on a bit of a different level than IW not wanting people to dramatically alter their finished product to their own ends.

But to be quite honest, this's as far as I go. I've got literally 'zero' stake in this issue, as I don't have a computer powerful enough to run CoD4 as it is, nor do I intend to buy one. Assuming there isn't some massive detriment to the moddless community to echewing the new server system for the old one, good luck with getting IW to change its mind. Odds are it'll work.
