Erm, Im running 8 gb RAM, 2gb Graphics and Quadcore, I DO Play PC games. I was making a point that the reason they do it is for equal rights.
It's not, but if it was it would be the stupidest reason ever.

There are lots of children in the world with no arms, some with no legs... Let's cut off YOURS too so we can be EQUAL! Ok?

Yes, i guess i'm a little worked up about the thing, and no i don't suppose all server hosting companies will go out of business, but i'm not kidding when i say competitive cod will die!
There can be no work arounds if there are no mods aloud, sure we could try to compete in full pub mode but the amount of noob weapons and perks that people could use would just ruin it and there would be no way to catch hackers as there is going to be no /record either (from what i've heard). The only reason cod4 was competitive was because of PAM and Promod, both of which we can't have if this no mods thing pans out.
I think by no mods they just mean no modding tools.

How are you going to integrate mods of any kind (like custom maps or settings) if you have no control or access to the servers?

Why are they using VAC? VAC is crap compared to Punkbuster, it takes months to ban people with VAC, better off banning people off your own server.

CODs multiplayer was ruined when it got turned into a grenade spamming noob fest full of kids after COD2. I wasn't going to buy it, and I still wont. I laugh at anyone who pays over full price for a reskinned sequel with unbalanced multiplayer, an extremely short and repetitive campaign and it's made by Activision.

There's much better games coming out than that piece of shit. Borderlands for one.

I am incredibly disappointed with Infinity Wards. I just went to check out their forums, turns out I have been IP banned, when I have never visited their site. Turns out everyone on my ISP has, I guess because it is largely a gamers ISP, and they have reported on the dedicated servers and mods not being supported.
So basically Infinity wards are just trying to sweep this under the table so people who don't know remain clueless to the matter an buy it anyway.

I understand being worried about piracy, and full steam integration...but no dedi servers or mods...unless this is some mistake they will lose huge amounts of pc players.

Forced MM is my only real concern. I hope it's optional, because that would be awesome. Ability to use MM feature whenever you just want to play whatever is great. But forcing it is BAD. Steam support sounds kind of funky though, paid DLC is meh and mods and dedicated. I'll probably be able to live without. The MM has made me reconsider buying it though, I'll have to wait for an official word about that though.

Screw it, this just made me go back to not buying MW2, I'm sticking to finding a copy of CoD4 now, I don't want matchmaking without Dedicated Servers, I'm fine with L4D's approach mostly because it works, and for all you console fags declaring how this makes it fair, I don't have a console (except for a Wii, but does anyone call that a console anyways?), so this just tells PC Gamers that we're screwed, that and I am not being told I have to use Steam. Fuck that.

EDIT: Baldurs rofl it is a crappy rehash. Much prefer no shader model 3 :D

Found a post on IW forums that can put it in terms that console players can understand (not meaning any offence, just saying people that dont know what dedicated servers are/dont realise how important they are to PC)

"Its good to see there are console players out there who get it.

For console players though who still dont understand how huge dedicated servers are, ill give a quick example if the tables were turned on you.

What if, IW decides to take away joystick support on your controllers?

Thats how massive it is to us.

Would you play the game if you couldnt aim with your stick?"

upon retrospect, yes i did in a way, but the only real thing i proved is that i can come up with an elaborate analogy. sill i stand by my point that both the console and the PC versions are the same game. the PC just has more options to customize the playing experience, playing experience, and interface. there are still the same game modes, maps, guns, and sadly arrogant players that both games provide.
Well, what we are bitching about is the lack of options in MW2. Yeah, the consoles have the same game as the PC, just without the options. What you seem to be unable to grasp is that the options are actually bigger and better than the rest of the game for a lot of people (myself included).

That's a pretty good comparison.

IW has control of the game - As always

IWnet servers will host multiplayer - I suppose that's okay.

DLC will be a charged item for PC - They fail right there.

No dedicated servers - I don't pay for servers, but they're only really hurting themselves and people who would shell out for their own server. This game will be cracked and cracked servers will be played on no matter what.

Matchmaking system used to play with similarly ranked players - I guess that's okay, if it's kinda like Left 4 Dead. But they'd better include a server browser too.

VAC instead of PB - I would usually get kicked by PB because it would have trouble updating. I haven't had trouble with VAC yet.

Semi-capable password servers - WTF? So company servers will have passwords? I don't understand.

Semi-capable ad-hoc servers - At least they have the decency to let us setup a LAN.

Competitive play is dead - Obviously. GG Activision.

MW2 mods would not be possible - Don't really care too much. Call of Duty wasn't really a mod heavy series. At least, I don't know of any.

Full integration into Steam - Can't be too bad. Achievements?

Seems like they're trying to gimp the PC version. Why would they do that? Are they really trying to get people to pirate their games instead of paying for them?
I really hope this is just a communications mistake. If they're really trying to "consolize," because a few small-brained console gamers complained about the PC version being "better" (how subjective), then they will definitely have more problems than just a few complaints.

When scrolling through this thread, all I saw was complaining, people asking questions about dedicated servers and why they're important, and then jackasses pretending that they're better than people for what they use to play games.
I'm disappointed.
Sure, it might be terrible that you can't have dedicated servers or mods, but does that mean that you have to be elitist jerks?
Apparently so.
