You're sitting in your home one day enjoying a relaxing game of when suddenly, the doorbell rings. You open the door to find none other than Jack Thompson. He explains that he's been re-barred and that he's about to start a trial which, if he won, would make M-rated video games illegal in the United States.

He needs your help.

Just as you're about to slam the door on his face, he explains that he has a proposition. He will give you just about anything you want. He says that he can rig the next mega millions lottery in your favor, guaranteeing that you win the massive three hundred million plus dollar prize. Or, he can give your career instant success thanks to "people he knows." Are you a writer? Your next novel is a bestseller. You could be the CEO of the company you work at. An actor? Congratulations, you've just landed the lead role in the biggest film production of all time. Think of Jack as a realistic genie who offers one wish.

To do this, you have to testify in front of the Supreme Court against video games. You need to publicly tell the world that video games made you a violent person, that they ruined your life, that it "changed" your friends, that you can't quit, and that you believe in anyone in support of video gaming is either corrupted by society or a liar.

If you do this, you're just one of Jack's line-up of several witnesses. His case is surprisingly strong. If you agree to testify, his case becomes a lot stronger. With you on board, Jack's victory becomes the most likely outcome. If you don't testify, then Jack's chances are seriously gutted.

In other words, if you do not testify:
Jack wins: 20%
Jack loses: 80%

If you do testify:
Jack wins: 80%
Jack loses: 20%

So, the question is... do you put basically the entire video game industry in jeopardy for the chance of a life time? What do you do?

Addendum: There is now way out. You can't testify, take the reward, and then recant. Also, Jack has found a way to make what he's doing completely legal, so you can't turn it around him. There are no loopholes.

EDIT: He's not lying to you. You'll both get what you want. This is entirely yes or no.

EDIT 3: Where's edit 2? Yeah.

The only games with no violence whatsoever are puzzle games and such, and while that's not bad, I wouldn't want to give up masterpieces like Left 4 Dead or Bioshock for anything. Sorry, Jacko, but you'd better call Mr. Wright if you want any hope of winning this case.

Oh, but you could still have T-rated games. The bill only makes M-rated games illegal.

No, not really. Wait. What I want is to have these games be legal. Loophole!

This is quite well thought out though. But my life is fine, and only because of the ability to play these games.

EDIT: Wait, what about games you already have? How can those be removed from your computer, for example? They can't. I mean, they can't even stop movie piracy, how can they stop people from playing them?

I'd lock him in the cellar ASAP. Can't let a madman like that escape into the public.

And i don't care if he offers anything i want? who's to say that he will keep his word? even the devil upholds his deals...people like that however can't be trusted...

I would ask him to guarantee me that he keeps his path with a written contract. Than I would sue him for bribery and tryed manipulation of a surpreme court trial and offer the contract as proof.

Half Life 2? Deus Ex? Bioshock (again)? Fallout New Vegas? Mass Effect? I haven't even played half of those, and I still don't want them to get banned!

"Hooray! I'm a success, think I'll celebrate with some violent video?! WHAT HAVE I DOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!"

*end scene*

Basically destroy my preferred medium and ruin all those people who make my medium keep chugging? When the devil makes you an offer he's going to offer you everything you want and take everything you value.

"Wait you said illegal in America right? I'm English, why should I care about what's sold in America! Come on Jack let's go ban those evil games!" Then as soon as he turns to exit my house I hit him over the head, knocking him unconcious, and stash him somwhere he can never do any harm. Can't have somebody like ruining gamer's fun now can we?

I would agree and then use my money to destroy the ESRB. No more ratings means the law dies with it.

The court would throw out your case. Jack found his own legal loophole that makes what he's doing completely legal. Don't ask how, it's all hypothetical.

No. I would tell him, rather bluntly, to fuck off and grow up. No amount of money would be worth it. I would be forever shunned by the gaming community, my friends and I would be killing off my favorite source of entrainment. Also knowing that I just effectively kill gaming would cause to much pain. Like a million voices screamed and were silenced in a second.

I wouldn't do it. Granted, it's tempting, but first of all, I love video games. Then there's the fact that I would help making people unemployed and I would also be hated by my Real Life friends and Internet acquaintances. And last, but definitely not least, helping out Thompson in banning M-rated games goes against almost all of my principles.

Sorry Jacky, but I've got honor...

I tell him that the only thing I want is to see him die horribly. I demand he martyrs himself for his cause. If he disagrees to it... I shoot him anyway before he can flee my property and I plant a gun on him.

I would tell Jack to hang on a few minutes, then send Gabe Newell an Email telling him to reveal Half-Life 2: Episode Three or I would help make it (since HL games are M rated) illegal to sell that game to their biggest consumer market (the USA).

I bet we'd start to see a lot of Episode Three progress!
