This is from the country whose citizens read porn on the train and came up with the words "yaoi" and "yuri" and the entire subculture therein?
You don't get it.

Yaoi and yuri are both genres largely by and for women. Most authors of both are women (in fact, many yuri anthologies are done by authors that also do yaoi), and most readers are women. The biggest bimonthly yuri anthology, for example, has nearly 75% female readership. It had a male-targeted spinoff manga which was far less successful and eventually folded.

They are interesting to women because they portray relationships outside the very narrow norm that japanese society at large claims women should like.

And this is why the very council you are discussing is going against, you guessed it, yaoi and yuri as well. There were bans on tame yaoi mangas already, and yuri is already being targeted as well.

So "this is from the country whose citizens came up with yaoi/yuri" is pretty much nonsensical. Yes, this is from this country, that's precisely why these old men are trying to ban things like that. Sexual freedom for women is considered a problem. Japan is a country where politicans can blame women for the low birth rate (which is funny: Pretty much every study, including conservative ones, showed that the main problem is that women cannot combine a career and marriage properly. A woman will often LOSE HER JOB without a chance to get it back when she gets a kid. Seriously. This means that a woman that has a child cuts off her security. If the man divorces her after she has a child, she's completely screwed. Obviously, women tend to try to avoid this.
This directly causes less and less children every year, and women only marrying if she can be sure that she'll make it even after a divorce. It's not a secret, it's well known and well studied.)

The whole situation is screwed up, and this very council belongs to the very group that is responsible. And "yaoi and yuri" are right on their target lists as well. It's not a paradox or odd.

Actually I think it goes beyond that to be honest. I think it's a direct response towards the whole "sexual revenge" thing you see cropping up as a subculture, especially in Japan.
No, that isn't even mentioned in what they are discussing. What they are discussing is directly mentioned, and "sexual revenge" (which is a thing discussed more on Fox news than happening in actual reality) isn't it.

has gotten its current bad name from the outspoken, hardcore, man-hating, feminazi bitches that we keep hearing about.
By your own logic, all men are scum. Why? Well, we sure hear about tons of male scum. By your logic, if you can argue that feminists are "outspoken, hardcore, man-hating, feminazi bitches" based on the evidence of the one feminist fitting that bill (who, fun fact, lived 30 years ago, and who had a certified mental illness due to her father raping her as a child - suddenly a lot less fun to call her man hating, no?), then obviously, men must be complete worthless scum. After all, I can find more scummy men than you can find "hardcore man-hating femionazi feminists". It's not even a contest. If I simply list rapists that were convicted beyond reasonable doubt, I can keep going long after you've stopped listing every feminist that exists.

It's a classical double standard.

Next time, think about the consequences of your own arguments before you use them.

By the way: I don't think men are actually scum. But that's because I'm a feminist. Unlike people like you, I don't judge a whole group by bad actions of a few.

This sounds like one of those lost in translation Chinglish (albeit Japanese) fobby moments where Asian parents say something 'tarded and everyone facepalms.

I really don't see any malice in his words. Just pure fobby ignorance. -__-

i find the Hypocrisy and Irony in this censor Hilariously silly
i mean about 95% of anime (according to me) has some sorta Hentai in it
so they would be censoring their biggest export

Ugh, another example of why I hate Japanese society. This is yet another facet of the sexist mindset that sex is an activity to be enjoyed by the man only, and that a woman "gives" her body to the man as some selfless sacrifice. No wonder that their society is so sexually repressed, if it refuses to admit that sex is a mutual partnership rather than a one-sided act. It's times like this that make me think that the US isn't really that bad after all.
My wife is Japanese, and she hasn't "given" her body to me in quite some time. I call foul.

Its hardly all of japan that is like that, really most societies have a view of women that is they are beneath a man, hell, even after the sexual revolution women are still struggling to get equal rights and they still regularly earn less then men, feminist is practically a 4 letter word since conservatives have done such a good job of demonizing it. Plus its not reasonable people that get assigned to things like this, its the more conservative and weird elements that get put on things like this.
I can't speak for everyone, but from my perspective, feminism has gotten its current bad name from the outspoken, hardcore, man-hating, feminazi bitches that we keep hearing about. Never run into one myself, so I have a feeling they aren't as common as the internet makes them seem. Classic feminism notion of equality? All for it, as long as it's really equality that they want.
Actually the manhating feminazi bitches tend to mostly be an invention of said rightwing groups as a way to turn the word feminist into a 4 letter one, really your just falling for it, if there is one thing the right is really good at re-defining words.
I'll believe you when stupid "feminist" rant blogs(quotes because I believe they misrepresent the cause they claim to champion) that keep getting linked(and which generally have a reputation of banning anyone who doesn't agree with them). I'm sorry, but they do exist, even if they aren't common. like I said before, I've never personally met one, but there are idiots that take things to extremes in all areas of belief. Then again, it could as likely be a different version of the Internet Warrior. The need to compensate for real life impotence is an equal opportunity flaw.

lol so according to him, all men that plays the lead sexual roll can turn woman into lesbians?...

what an idiot...
Nonono, women don't derive enjoyment from sex! Lesbianism is a myth propagated to turn more men gay! Obviously women wouldn't seek out other women to give pleasure sexually to, as neither of them would receive said pleasure!

This feels like what happened back in the 50's with American comics, you know "the seduction if the innocent" comics code approved era of comics. The old school American comics used to be full of crazy sex and violence (well for the time!) then backlash and censorship that held comics back as medium for years. Its like Japanese conservatives are reacting to the free- for-all attitude of some manga titles with scary, ultra traditional views as the sexual themes in those books become more mainstream. I can only think of this as a good reminder of how different japanese culture is from the west, and not all those differences seem positive to the western way of thinking.

I want women to take the lead.
I want women to take advantage of me, I want women to use me for sexual purposes.

This article is hilarious, maybe Japanese culture is simply that different?

Who wouldn't want a woman to take the lead, really? How would "sexually aggressive women" turn kids gay? Damn it Japan, what is wrong with you these days!

Last time I checked, the only thing sexual aggressive women did was turn me on.
Yes...gives you something to aim for - taking the lead from a woman who's equally capable. No fun otherwise.

How...how did they come to that conclusion?
Then again, it's Japan. Guess I shouldn't be surprised.

To quote one of dozens of similar comments:

"Why is Japan doing this??"

JAPAN is not doing this. A GUY is doing this. Granted this guy is a product of Japanese culture. But so are 127 million other Japanese people, each of whom is a person with his or her own personality, none of which are precisely identical despite the stereotype.

"JAPAN" is not some monolithic hive-mind. There's one guy in Miyazaki Prefecture (a tiny, mostly rural "state" tucked away in the far south of Japan...the size and population of a couple of American counties) who thinks this way. There are probably a few million others who have similar ridiculous opinions, but most Japanese people would find his views as appalling as most of us do.

And how many millions of Americans think that homosexuality is caused by dominant women? How many Canadians? Dave Sim, the writer of Cerberus, one of the greatest comic books ever, thinks so. Most North Americans who've read his wacky views rightfully think he's a nutcase. Do they say, "Why is Canada doing this??" No. They think, "Why did such a great comic creator turn into such a homophobic, misogynistic creep?"

Why is a Canadian or an American opinion an individual's opinion, but a minor Japanese functionary's opinion is suddenly JAPAN's opinion?

And for the several people who wrote variations on "This is why I hate Japan": Stop being idiots. I could understand such a sentiment if you were, say, Japanese and complaining about your own culture, or if you were Chinese or Korean and your country had been invaded and terribly harmed by Japan, or if you were an 80-year-old Pacific War vet. But even those people should get the hell over it. Americans should remember that Japan is one of America's closest and most loyal allies. It is far from a perfect country, and it has crimes to answer for in its history...but name me a country that is perfect. Name me a country that is free from an ugly past.
As much as I dislike people who only quote someone to say 'This'... well, THIS!

A comment in the minutes of a meeting by one individual does not a country/culture make. To think that there is no one of pretty much every other culture that thinks something as assinine as this is just laughable
But Japan is notorious for (as a whole) being more sexist than most Western countries. Particularly when it comes to things such as getting high-level jobs (especially in the hard sciences), and in gender roles at home. The US/UK/etc are by no means perfect, but if you speak with women who are working on, say, CS PHDs in Japan and then come to the US (or vice-versa), they will definitely tell you stories about working in Japan that wouldn't sound nearly as commonplace in the US.

Are all Japanese people sexist? No. Are there some perfectly decent people in Japan who are as disgusted with this guy's opinion as we are? Yes.

Is the country, as a whole, more sexist than most other developed countries in the West? Yes.

The funny thing is that those who blog about that sort of thing are in the same boat with you, meaning they dont understand what a feminist really is, they have been fooled by the right wing also.
Besides if you are going to judge groups by the lowest common demoniator then you should hate pretty much anyone who is religions since they obviously support any of the suicide idiots and probably hate gamers since that one guy who shot someone once played a game.

I can't say I'll shed any tears for those losing their Loli.

But otherwise, I'd say this is humanity continuing to see how low it can dig.
