Should I fear for my life right now? Because I got the feeling that this is one of those things that'll somehow lead to our demise.

Seems like an awesome concept to me. I hope this tech gets really popular so that we start seeing more applications and development.

We could go from concerts, to movies, to GAMES.

Isn't his our ultimate goal as gamers? To put us INSIDE the game?!

EDIT: and for anyone questioning the legitimacy of this as a form of artistic music isn't looking past the surface. A REAL person composed the music, and did the animation, and designed the art. It is still human creativity and can therefore be appreciated as such.

I am greatly saddened by this. The "musicm" to me, is slightly more ear-shattering than scraping grass or J.G. Wentworth commercials, and the fact that it still has legions of fans is...well, there goes my daily dose of faith in humanity. I always wake up optimistic, and something happens to completely ruin it. Today, this is it.

You can get the same effect by taking acid at any concert after listening to several hours of JPop...you'll probably wake up the next day with blood on your hands but that's probably for the best.

I found about it yesterday. I feel Japan just creates new technology to do stuff like this. They build a Gundam just for show, and now they make hologram technology for Vocaloid. God damn it Japan. щ(゚Д゚щ)

What the hell.....what the hell....what the hell....
[snaps out of disbelief coma]
This is quite possibly the creepiest thing I have seen, ever.
Besides having to turn off the sound due to the ear raping pitch of the singer I cannot believe people would go live to see a computer perform.

How is that possible? How can you have 3D projections that don't look like projections? Ugh, my brain...

Do they make models where the woman is older then 16?

I mean, not that id wanna "fap" to it or anything, but i just dont feel right being teased by an underage hologram.
Actually there is a few older vocaliods. Here's one from that concert. Her reporeted age is in the 18 to 25 range.

OT I have already seen clips from the show but I still gotta say I absolutley love vocaliod. All the songs they sing are from people outside the music industery who may not be able to sing but they make damn good music that has actually brought people to tears. Miku is not nesacary my favorate but she is always the first one anyone ever see's and she brings in the publicity which might mean hope for more vocaliod stuff in the states. Even if I'm the only one here who seems to care :p

I have mixed reactions to this. One being "What the hell is up with this?" The other being "Why haven't we seen this stuff ages ago? It's amazing!"

Not holograms exactly. What they're doing is projecting a 3D image onto a reflective surface. Holograms are just easier to say (and more awesome). I think for that concert in particular they used four different projectors to create that 3D effect.
That's technically what holograms are anyway. Up until now (as far as I can tell) there were only static holograms or sprite-based animations, each sprite being a different holographic plate which was switched out as needed. This was very fluidly animated, which is why I was asking how they did it.

There's an awful lot of herping and derping in this thread. Vocaloid is just a synthesizer with anime-like characters attached. It's similar to programs like Garage Band, but for vocals instead of instruments.

Are you positive about the concert being done with MMD? Its graphics typically look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uObJD1idK7I so I find that a bit hard to swallow unless it came from an official source.

There's a vocaloid fan group on this very site: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Black-9734-Rock-Shooter-and-Vocaloid-Fan-Club

I think Gumi sounds the best, though Miku is still the cutest.

This reminds me of the star trek voyager episode virtuoso, it's about the holographic doctor becoming a singing sensation to an entire species. I know this because I watched that episode last night :p
