As a Vocalod fan, it kinda bugs me that they really only use her "annoying" songs at her concerts. I knew they did these ages ago. They even came to San Francisco once, but why would I sit through her annoying songs just to hear "Magnet" once? Or "World is Mine"? Or any of the other awesome ones that aren't in the concert.

I think there's just an appeal for electronic sounding music and vocals. Kinda like T-Pain..but poppy and Japanese. And sometimes very twisted. And instead of just T-Pain there's like....8 of them. There's more but I really don't feel like counting.

I think they took the animations from the game, actually. "Project Diva". That's what the random costumes are from too.

Mr Tito, why is this here?

What is this... I don't even...

Not my cup of tea. It saddens the judgemental part of me that "she's" anyone's cup of tea.
This. And how can they go to a concert, its not even talent, its just a machine... I wouldnt go to to see a machine, I may aswell just listen to my ipod.

Japan seems to be getting weirder/creepier all the time imo.
No talent? Seriously? That's a rather close-minded viewpoint.

Ignoring the fact that the entire band was real, I'm sure a great deal of talent went into that production.

First off, someone actually had to CREATE Miku, no small feat in itself. Second, someone wrote the lyrics she's singing. Just because you can't understand them doesn't mean they aren't there. Third, the MOTHERFUCKING HOLOGRAM. That's really, really cool. How is that not worth seeing?

As for your comment on just listening to your iPod and getting the same result, you do realize that ALOT of western singers just lip-sync, right? So really, the only difference between one of these concerts and one of ours is that the lip-syncing is better there.

As others have said, this has been done in the west before, namely the Gorillaz. Really, this is just the next logical step.

While I don't think this should REPLACE traditional singers, I think this is a really cool use of some impressive technology.

Why would a Japanese pop company invest so much into stupid shit? It's profitable, but anyone who is associated with this in any way/shape/form has lost all dignity and respect.

I dont find this surprising, let me know when she's part of a bukkake and I'll be shocked...
Not posting links on this site, but let's just say rule 34 hasn't been kind to Miku.

I gotta say that is pretty amazing dood! I'd attend just for the spectacle, much more interesting than the New Networks Needlessly using "Hologram" technology.

uhh so, this is just weird...they are using holograms completely wrong!
A holographic concert?!
Wow. I can't believe anybody would go to that...
It's like paying tons of money to go watch a music video in a dark room with 1000s of other strangers...

Dignity and respect, in the J-Pop industry. Think about that for a minute champ.

OT: The hologram does look pretty astounding. Shame it has to be projected onto something rather than 'floating' in the air, but it's a step forward nonetheless. These are exciting times!

I count J-Poop as an indicator of extremely bad taste.

This green haired character isn't a person. Calling it a she/her is a sense of identity that isn't valid. It's a product. A synthesized figure of what annoys me about modern Japanese sensibilities. If you're into this, not only are you stupid and I hate you, but you aren't even considered a fan because Miku isn't a musician.

Cool. Hate me all you want then. And yeah, Miku isn't a musician, but the people in Japan and American that have her software and make amazing music with her ARE musicians. The dedicate their time coming up with lyrics, and writing the music for instruments or synthesizing their own background music. They're the musicians and that's the whole point of the software.

Yeah, I had much the same reaction when I saw this story popping up on my Western press feeds earlier today, until I realized that most other people probably weren't reading my Eastern press feeds. What's old news to one is shiny and new to the other, eh?

Macross Plus and Deus Ex 2 figured this stuff out a while ago. Odd to see those kinds of explorative SF elements being proven correct.

I think it is pretty sweet that they can make such quality tech. So what if it isn't a real person that is drawing lots of fans. Hell, I paid good money to see Dethklok in concert, and that wasn't even holographic, it was a damn cartoon projected on a screen (with a live band of course, but she has a live band too).

I enjoy J-Pop as well as Metal, and that was pretty entertaining. If it was over here, or I magically found myself in Japan, I would probably go check it out as well.
