Job Posting Adds More Fuel to Final Fantasy Versus XIII Exclusivity Rumors

The Final Fantasy series' sole remaining PS3 exclusive title may not be exclusive for much longer.

Back in May, we first heard rumors [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100756-Final-Fantasy-Versus-XIII-Could-Come-to-Xbox-360-Too] that Square-Enix was considering making Final Fantasy Versus XIII a multiplatform title, instead of just releasing it on the PlayStation 3 as originally planned. The rumor came from what was an admittedly vague statement, though, and it's easy to just brush off a single instance like that as mere coincidence.

Two instances, though? That's slightly harder to dismiss. Earlier today, Square-Enix posted a job listing [http://www.square-enix.com/jp/recruit/career/job/game/planner_index.html] for a Final Fantasy Versus XIII "Battle Planner." The requirements for the job include experience working on a 3D action game, experience in both level and battle design, and "development experience on a PS3, or Xbox 360 package title."

That specific reference to an "Xbox 360 package title," naturally, has some Final Fantasy fans - and PS3 fanboys - up in a tizzy. Given that many JRPG fans are said to have initially bought PS3s specifically for FF13 and FFv13, it is perhaps understandable - but some of them take it a bit too far [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99098-Final-Fantasy-Fans-Boo-Xbox-360-at-London-Event].

This is, of course, just a silly little coincidence, and it's entirely possible that the request for Xbox 360 development experience has nothing to do with Versus XIII, but rather some other game that Square-Enix could develop in the future.

It is enough to make you think, though. Isn't it?

Its just a rumor. Still, how would Squeenix NOT benefit from releasing it on the 360, as well?

I hope they release it on both platforms. From a business perspective, PS3 exclusivity doesn't make any sense. The 360 version of FF13 made up nearly 40% of the game's total sales. Ignoring a market that large is stupid. There may be a lot of bitching from fanboys but they'll still buy it.

I think the bigger question here is, who gives a flying crap about this? Seriously, anyone who ACTUALLY gets annoyed by something as trivial as this is a fanboy to the highest degree.

Games being released on more than one console are a GOOD thing. It means the creators make more money, and, in turn, have more funds to make better games. It's a win for everyone, but the fanboys treat this like some kind of fucking betrayal or something. Hey, news flash, YOU STILL GET TO PLAY THE GAME YOU WANT.

I'm not usually this ranty, but if there's on thing on the internet that pisses me off more than anything, it's moronic fanboys blindly following game companies no matter what they do, and getting pissed off at anyone with even the slightest bit of free thought.

It just makes all gamers look like basement-dwelling forum trolls.

I wouldn't be surprised, but regardless I absolutely hate it when people start randomly speculating that a game previously possibly exclusive to PS3 goes to 360.

I mean, remember when there was that one Metal Gear Solid teaser site?

People went absolutely nuts because "OMG, It's green like the 360! And the power button is like the 360! And if you add the amount flipped on the !/i it's 360! METAL GEAR SOLID FOUR IS COMING TO 360! MGS4 IS COMING TO 360!"

It was an iPhone game. Or that Peace Walker game, I forget which, but whatever. I still don't get why people want specifically MGS4, get over it already! Same thing happened with the MGS:Rising teaser site, remember that? And that wasn't the only instance, sometimes Kojima would make an off-handed remark on the 360 and suddenly, rumours started plopping up everywhere that MGS4 would go to 360. Srsly. And I remember a while ago when Mass Effect was "accidentally" listed for PS3, and it was instantly shot down as "just a mistake" when the same thing happened for another game and everyone went nuts.

Whatever, excessive ranting over, I'll just wait. I haven't played FFXIII yet anyway, not much of a final fantasy fan to be honest, but maybe I'll get into it with Versus or before.

Exclusivity is a thing of the past, I don't think many things will be coming out on "one system" anymore.

Oh hey good for me, I get to play another awesome game. Nothing should be exclusive anyways.

While it's true that there is blatant fanboyism that coincides with these sorts of rumours, there are those of us who aren't happy with the idea who AREN'T fanboys.

I have both consoles so it makes no difference to me whether it's a PS3 exlusive, Xbox exclusive or whatever. My problem with it is that it needlessly delays the game.

The Xbox port of XIII wasn't even that great anyway, I mean sure the graphics were pretty much the same which is always good. But the framerate? Yeah that's a different story.

I'm up for it. I loved FFXIII and being an Xbox 360 user, it would benefit me. Fanboyism is overrated. People should start thinking of all the consoles as a whole and not just one.

Yeppie! Another average game from Square Enix that has taken them 5 years to make! But now 360 users can join in our waiting and disappointment! Happy days are here to stay.

I for one am shocked that Square is not hiring a PS3-exclusive developer and then firing him after this last exclusive project is complete and then finding someone who can develop on multiple platforms. SHOCKED.

My husband bought a Xbox and we can't afford a PS3 on top of that. How else are people like us suppost to get to play?

Plus I hear that PS3s are murder to program for, so all power to that. XNA seems easier.

After the shear debauchery ff13 was to the series I could not care less about any game from square. That being said I still want it on multiple consuls, we need less exclusives not more. Ahh fanboys making the planet stupider one comment at a time.

I pretty much bought a PS3 solely for Square-Enix games so I am understandably a little annoyed that they are all of a sudden changing they're tune. Seems like Microsoft's revenge for Mass Effect 2 going muliplat.

I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself.
