I really couldn't care either way, but if this happens at least the PS3 is getting Mass Effect 2.

As far as I know, Final Fantasy XIII didn't have any content cut out because the 360 port was made by another company, but feel free to correct me.

What is this whole "versus" business with FF?
Yeah, I don't get it either. Someone want to teach a JRPG illiterate guy something?
Versus XIII is supposed to be different. Versus means "against" and it's supposed to be completely different from FFXIII. It's supposed to be different from regular Final Fantasy norms by setting a darker story in a realistic setting. Or so I've heard.

Honestly, i could care less about what system its on. :/
Its the game that matters. If the game is going to suck, its going to suck, despite what console its on.
You could argue that it depends on the port. The Orange Box for 360 was absolute garbage after playing Portal on PC. However, this is entirely different because the PS3 and 360 are much more similar.

I'd rather that shit wasn't ported to 360.
They released little to no information about the game and it's apparently shit? My god, I know forums aren't the most thriving spots for intelligent discussion, but you're just an idiot.

Its just a rumor. Still, how would Squeenix NOT benefit from releasing it on the 360, as well?
Because Tetsuya Nomura's threatened to quit over it. They lose their character designer, they basically lose the whole franchise's image.

I yield good sir. Ye have mortally wounded my argument.
But, Ragnarok was pretty cool. And when are there ANY decent romantic stories in RPG's that aren't simply pandering or the boring old "Boy meets girl.. girl turns out to be fugitive princess/source of magic/necessary component of evil spell or plan.... Boy is thrust from humble beginnings into epic adventure full of political intrigue, struggle, and hope against the ultimate evil... along the way falls in love with aforementioned girl"

I like the idea of a true romance, with dancing, and smiles, and a pretty girl crying as my character risks life and limb not to save the WORLD, but for the love of a woman.

/sigh

You actually played White Knight Chronicles? I could never find anyone to play it with me :(
Well I will say that it handled the romance better than WKC handled it's romance.

Boy meets girl, 5 minutes later girl is kidnapped, spend entire game whimsically muttering her name in an intensely creepy fashion.

Seriously I got the vibe that Cisna was MIND CONTROLLING HIM more than him actually loving her.

But in the same game we have Kara and Caeser (best two characters in the series by far save for Cyrus, if you haven't played WKC2 I wont spoil it, but I summed him up best with "***** I'm too cool to join the party") but that just gives credence to the Cisna mind control.

And I actually have this to say, when the japanese are writing a deep friendship, they end up with something that would work very well as a romance (example: for all the terrible things Bleach does, the interactions between Rukia and Ichigo are actually pretty well written) but when they try to write a romance we get George Lucas creepy romance.

But onto RPGs with good Romance.

Well Sakura Taisen has it 'goofy' good, as in it's ridiculous but most of the characters are likable enough and have good chemistry. Super Robot Wars handles it well, and it handles a lot of romances and not just in the constraints of the canon's it's taking. there own original characters work well and they often end up improving on existing relationships. But hey that's my opinion as a geek for robots.

Disgaea 3's B-plot between Almaz and Sapphire was pretty good, nothing overtly stupid, Valkyria Chronicles could get- to coin an annoying turn of phrase- really 'anime' but it was still warm and fuzzy.

Some of the Breath of Fires handle it well, and most of the Megaten's do as well (usually because the relationship has a clear development cycle)

those are just a few.

I thought the director, or whatever said he would've flipped if they asked him to do 360, because I remembered that Versus is pretty far along in progress.
But 2 systems is a financially sound decision, provided the game is actually good this time.

EDIT: I take it back. I just remembered the character designer was going to fucking quit if they made him do 360. Best not to get rid of the guy behind FF's image, or else the franchise'll look more like a generic JRPG, more than FF13 did. Not a financially sound decision.

Actually this is a good analogy, Nomura makes a twitter post saying "I'm making this game for the PS3 alone" everyone takes that to mean "It's going to be ported"

As for getting into the FF series, don't try XIII, it's bad-

And before it's defense force comes knocking on my door, I've played the game, I've played other FFs. It is NOT good game design. It's not even Chrono Cross, it's Final Fantasy VIII (incidentally don't play that, save yourself the pain)

I would say if you still have a PS2 to go with XII.

XII is an odd one since before XIII everyone always said "this is the worst Final Fantasy ever" but that's because it's different.

Oh the games story is paced schizophrenically and on the surface there isn't a lot of development, it suffers from having 2 directors adapting the work of a third director with an overbearing Kotick boss. But the gameplay is genuinely fun, the plot has a surprising amount of depth (man vs god, freewill vs enslavement, the consequences of revenge and it's relation to the past and your growth as a human being beyond that)

On the downside the poor pacing means you don't remember the good stuff, I fondly remember the game though and it's fun.

For a more 'safe' experience however try one of the 2D snes games, they are charming and unreliably addictive. They are also fast (in combat) as to not bore you.

Getting into JRPGs in general? try the Persona subset of the Megami Tensai series and Chrono Trigger.

For more recent stuff the 'Tales of' games have ALWAYS been a good stop, Folklore is fun but different, and of course Demon Souls.

If your looking for Strategy that's Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem and my personal pet pleasure Super Robot Wars.

A lot of people say the genre is stagnant and let themselves judge it based on the PSX era (where JRPGs were in a big boom period due to the success of FFVII) but there is a surprising amount of variety and there will be at least a few games you'll love.

Also Breath of Fire, old series by today's standards but FUN
I remember trying out Final Fantasy X, though I never finished it. Felt it was very average.

Demon's Souls was excellent, as was Valkyria Chronicles. I don't think I'm much of a Final Fantasy Fan, but I've always been interested in getting into it. I need some classic JRPG action or something, some good ole' stat building and whatnot.

Classic JRPG Stat Building, right

FFIV (any version, though i recommend the GBA version or DS version) it's just a good all around game, it doesn't throw anything for too much of a loop (except for the constant trading out of your party members, you'll see what I mean)
FFV (GBA) Has a Job System which will rock your socks off, think of it like building the troops in VC, but DEEPER
FFVI (Again any version) Okay this is more of a stat builder, you equip Espers to your party members are the espers dictate stat growth. The cast is likable, it gives a good feeling of there being no main character while still providing everyone with a reason for being there (you may think I'm over reacting but when Dissidia came around the dev team was stumped with who would represent FFVI from the hero side. Terra, Locke or Celes, Terra edged out because she had the greatest ties to the villain)

Chono Trigger: Unique and fun

Breath of Fire (1-4) the first two are more traditional games, the latter two mix progression up. IMO BoF 4 is one of the most symbolic well designed games I've played, and I don't mean in the 'Symbolic' of 'Throw a whole bunch of pseudo religious crap and call it deep' I mean the symbolism is actually symbolic of the characters, the world, the story etc. even down to the very environments

[quote: Daeren SA]
Symbolism time!

That ring of green trigrams is a Primordial/Earlier Heaven bagua. "The gently caress is that?", the average goon says. Bagua means Eight Symbols in Chinese, and is an important diagram in Taoist philosophy. It represents the flow and structure of reality, with the trigrams representing parts of reality along with elements of yin and yang. Going clockwise from the trigram at Fou-Lu's feet, they are Heaven, Wind, Water, Mountain, Earth, Thunder, Fire, and Lake. They are also associated with seasons, cardinal directions (with Heaven as north, just like the compass says), emotions, concepts, families, and a whole bunch of other stuff. They're also an element in feng shui, used to map out the house to be in balance with creation and affect the owner's life. There's probably a metric shitload more symbolism here than I'm aware of (especially with the western symbol looking a lot like that Bangla script Om discussed in the previous symbolism update), but the fact that Fou-Lu's standing on Heaven while you approach him from Earth isn't exactly subtle. Azure Dreams: Rogue Like Monster Raiser Town Building Dating Sim

Live a Live/Live a Evil/ Live a Die: A game in which you play short stories of the lives of a Ninja, Martial Artist, Cowboy, Robot, Caveman, Wrestler and Knight through all different time periods. The gameplay is different for each one, for example the Robot plays through a Horror adventure game, the Ninja is infiltrating a compound to rescue someone and it plays like MGS (you can complete it without killing anyone), the Cowboy is having a showdown with an entire gang and you have to assemble traps to thin down there members before fighting the lead boss and his Gatling gun.

This game is FUN, pure fun, it has a translation patch, there is no reason you shouldn't be playing this game.

Shin Megami Tensai (Series): If you can't STAND old gameplay, go for the Persona Subset, if you want an action flair the Raidou games will be your thing, Shin Megami Tensai 3 is a good game period for the PS2, and Strange Journey on the DS will have you drooling.

Xenogears: Okay this is- in many peoples eyes- a masterpiece. It is also one of the biggest trolls in video game history, play it JUST for the experience, though the game is a good game

TACTICS GAMES
Sakura Taisen, any from the PS2 onwards. Think of it like this, ST is the Proto-VC
Final Fantasy Tactics
Tactics Ogre
Fire Emblem: All/Any even the really old NES games are good
Arc the Lad Collection
Disgaea: All, if your finding some games to 'anime' then Disgaea will help you laugh it off with it's self parody of all things RPG/strategy

Action Combat- For Games where you wanna move around
SMT Devil Summoner games
Kingdom Hearts: All games. Think of KH like this, the plot can be utterly insane, but the games are always competent action games
FFXII: Pseudo real time
White Knight Chronicles
Tales of (Series): Tales is a good mix of RPG and action, any of the games will do.
Star Ocean 1-4- The games all around can have stupid stupid (Stupid) plot, like SO4, but the gameplay is always solid

EDIT: Oh and the Golden Sun games, mix of Zelda and RPGs. And Megaman Battle Networks 2,3 5 and 6. AVOID 4 LIKE THE BLACK PLAGUE. Speaking of Megaman, the Legends Series

Alright dude, alright, I was mainly asking a rhetorical pseudo-question or something, but regardless thanks for all that, I will definitely consider hunting those games down.

I never finished WKC... about halfway through, it felt like I should be playing it online or something, and I never found anyone that bought it other than me. Then, Final Fantasy XIII came out, and that was all she wrote.

No not yet, you need a WKC1 save to play 2 anyway, and 2 comes with an updated re-release of the first (with the new faster battle system) but I don't know when it's coming out here.

He's the directr of Versus as well, and the Kingdom Hearts games, and the guy behind VII's original story, and the monster designer on V, and the Sprite artist on VI, and the guy who did the bosses of Super Mario Bro's RPG.

So Final Fantasy XIII wasn't really Final Fantasy 13 but some other game that everyone was sold because Square-Enix wanted money and couldn't be bothered telling everyone they were still working on the actual game and that Final Fantasy Verus XIII is really Final Fantasy 13 because it somehow continues the story and they want to realse it exclusively to the PS3 because blahblah blah blah?

Im sorry but what?
Okay when XIII was announced? it was announced along side Versus and Agito, The KH team got Versus, the Crisis Core team got Agito, and the talentless hacks got XIII. and I don't call them that because I hate XIII, almost every game they've made is garbage. There not even the fucking C team, they are the E-Team, they make the spin-off spin-offs.
