Hello escapists.

Last night in the middle of the night i decided i was going to dedicate my life to joining the Army.

At the age of 17 out of school and i dont have a job, My mum is basically kicking me out the door unless i can get a job, so heres what im going to do.

Every morning go for a run. I have made a course out of my neighbourhood wich is roughly 2.5k's (like a mile and a half i think).
And 100 push ups and sit ups later on in the day.
Also im gonna try gather some mates to do paintball, ive been once and i totally want to do it again.
(Im not un-fit but i could use some exercise)

At the end of 2010. Im going to try and sign up for the Australian Army.

Discussional value: Would you ever join the defence force?

Well good luck to you. You should do some weigh lifting and practice shooting guns at a shooting range. And yes I would.

Good luck! I hope you enjoy it!

OT: No, I won't join the army, I don't want to die like that. It also doesn't look very fun, and I'd be away from my family.

I'm doing the same thing at the end of this year.

What job did you have in mind?

I'm joining the U.S. Air Force next year, try to avoid Infantry, look for a profession that will give you a skill, like something in engineering or telecommunications...

Go forth and soldier up if that's what you gotta do friend and while you are at it you could always take a specialty and turn it into a not military career.

OT: I don't think I would ever join up unless it was a case of war, then I don't really see a choice even though I am pretty sure I wouldn't live to see the end of it.

Well if you do that everyday you will definitely be fit enough to join up!

OT: I hope to be accepted to the US Air Force Academy so I can become a F-35 pilot. I like the idea of being a Strike Fighter pilot because they have a big impact on the battlefield.

Yea, I'm thinking of signing up after Uni....... then again that is more or less 4 years from now so who knows maybe I'll change my mind by the time I'm done.

On a side note:
Goodluck, godspeed and you sure you wanna join the army? Sounds like you sort of made a heat of the moment decision.

Sounds like a plan, and smart idea getting in shape now. If you can, practice with firearms too (I believe someone mentioned this above).

I'm in the process of joining the US army. Next year is my senior year in highschool, and I'm trying to get my parnets to sign me away so that in 14 months, i can ship off to Basic.

So yea, I'd say if you think you've got it in you, go for it :) everybody loves a man in uniform

If the only way for you to pay for college is joining the military (idk how aussi works, the US pays for college after you finish) other wise get a job take out loans and go to college. Personaly i'd never join the army ever, even if a draft was imposed.

Good luck with the Army. I'm in the reserve and will be shipping out for basic at the end of July. I would have gone earlier...but then I had to graduate high school.

I'm not sure about the Australian army, but at least for our basic training, everyone has been telling me get your running endurance up because they'll build your upper body and core in basic. Running...not so much.

I wouldn't join the American military. I am joining the United States Peace Corps, but don't want any part of our armed forces.

Eventually I'll be moving to a socialist-friendly European country, and might consider joining the military there. As for American military, I don't see any need to fight for an imperialist nation that uses Socialist as a synonym for demon.

I consider that a personal slight.

While I agree that people seem to have a completely inaccurate definition for Socialist over here, when you call the US an "Imperialist Nation" you sound like Soviet propaganda.
