I'm optimistic about this game, regardless of its setting. I thought Bethesda did a more than admirable job resurrecting the Fallout franchise and melding it with their engine. I also believe Obsidian made several notable improvements to the Bethesda model with New Vegas. Now it's just a matter of combining and enhancing the best elements of both games and trimming around the edges.

I just hope that if they go for a huge, Skyrim-esque world, they don't do so at the expense of immersion.

Glad it's not San Francisco. I was actually hoping it would be in New England, possibly near the border of Canada. I mean, Canada was annexed by the U.S. and supposedly vaults were in the process of being build there too. Not to mention that the continued existence of Toronto was hinted at in The Pitt DLC for Fallout 3. Perhaps Canada suffered less devastation from the nukes than the U.S. and there are still trees growing up there, and maybe the Commonwealth is trying to evict its current inhabitants to gain access to its timber, mineral, and water resources. It'd definitely be an interesting contrast with the shining technological utopia of the Commonwealth, featuring Canada supposedly being retaken by both nature and its former nationals.

So, here's hoping it's actually post-apocalyptic, unlike the last one.
Oh right because nothing says "fun" like no progress EVER.

And gamers say they're sick of copy-pasted games.
I'm of the mind that there are two groups of Fallout Fans. The ones that started with the old games, and understand the core themes of rebuilding and black humor of the originals, and those that started with Fallout 3, and were treated to a more traditional apocalypse scenario.

I prefer to move into a new age rather than wallow in the wreckage of what came before.

I started with Fallout 3. And I got to say it's been what 200 years sense the great war? Yeah New Vegas did it right. It's been 200 years yeah the human race needs to move on. Society's don't stagnate like that. If you have to keep the Fallout name and you just have to be more "post-apocalyptic" then make it a prequel because moving forward don't make sense. What I am saying is I started in Fallout 3, but shit needs to move forward.

This new's makes me dance with glee though i thought Bethesda would do something with the commonwealth though they still might and personally would like Bethesda and obsidian to combine there abilities and make Fallout 4 the ultimate fallout game unfortunately Chris Avellone and Todd Howard have different view's on RPG's sadly.

Here is hoping they get someone other than Bethesda to write the game. Like Obsidian.
+1
I won't buy the game if Bethesda is developing it. I fully accept that Fallout 3 is a good game (though with huge faults), but I personally hate Bethesda's take on the franchise.

Though the thought of seeing Boston lying in ruins is wonderful. Because, well...

Though I don't think the Commonwealth is as ruined as other parts of the US. Not sure on that, though. At least Fenway should be a demolished heap molerats use to poop on. That's fitting.

Someone mentioned it to me, I googled it, and apparently they have been scoping out MIT.
I was hoping we'd see "The Commonwealth" and I'm assuming that will be a main faction and/or area.
God damn it, when is Seattle, Washington gonna get it's break?

I saw some concept art for the Fallout version of Seattle and it looked fucking amazing. Who WOULDN'T want to adventure around the ruins of a Retro-future cyberpunk megacity trapped in a nuclear winter?

C'mon, not only is that incredibly cool as the entire environment consists of skybridges between superstructures, but the NCR finally get that nuclear winter they all have been wanting!

ALL OF THEM. ALL THE TIME.

Boston is coastal. The colonials weren't dumping tea into a river.

I was thinking more like Florida, which according to some theorists will be mostly flooded by the time of the apocalypse.
edit: a city in Florida*

Dare I say it I am fed up of the US cities...go somewhere I know a little closer to home...Cardiff maybe...or OK maybe London would work better.

Either way I am sure it will be a sweet game but I am sure if I ever went to washington or vague the last 2 games would have been a lot more interesting to me full of the oh god I remember that etc...as they stand they are just ruined cites
I got to admit, as someone not from the US, it would be nice to see other parts of the world and how they were affected as well.

Ahh...well you could also do that in my home city of Charleston, SC. We have tons of pirate stuff here. Blackbeard did blockade the city and hold some key citizens for ransom.

I was going to disagree, but then I thought how cool it would be for them to use that Blackbeard event as a major quest or plotpoint.
Kudos to you~

Any Fallout 4 news is good news.
I just really hope it is a launch title for the next-gen.
I can survive the wait for that amount of awesome.
I agree, I don't want to wait but I will, next gen launch would be so awesome, this game would probably be the only way I'd pick up a console on day 1. I also hope we don't just get a "Skyrim With Guns" because that is sorta what happened between Oblivion and FO3. I want FO4 to feel completely like its own game and hopefully be Bethesda's least bugged release to date. It would also be fantastic if Obsidian got to do some of the writing for it or they at least find some writers who understand and respect the Fallout lore.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the Institute. And as much as I would like a fallout game set in Europe or the far East, it has to be set in America really, to keep the 1950's world of tomorrow gone wrong feel, in my opinion of course.
