We don't celebrate Columbus Day in Canada, in fact Oct. 12 is our Thanksgiving and I certainly have no reason to reconsider that.
But maybe we should celebrate Leif Erickson day, Vikings are more bad ass than Spaniards.canadamus_prime said:We don't celebrate Columbus Day in Canada, in fact Oct. 12 is our Thanksgiving and I certainly have no reason to reconsider that.

You might find this hard to believe, but in some countries they don't teach Cristobal Colon because he has no relevance.Chrissyluky said:wait there are people who havent taken a basic history class...? i learned about Columbus in 4th grade cmon people.CmRet said:It is true though. Seriously, did anyone celebrat, throw a party, or even think "Wow Columbus was a guy worth celbrating."? No, nobody did. Nobody cares, to most people its just another day.Ayrav said:I've been saying this all day... I'll say it one more time I guess. NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT COLUMBUS DAY!
then why does a video targeted torwards americans target americans? honestly it doesnt make any sense. and it has no affect on us today.gentleben said:You might find this hard to believe, but in some countries they don't teach Cristobal Colon because he has no relevance.Chrissyluky said:wait there are people who havent taken a basic history class...? i learned about Columbus in 4th grade cmon people.CmRet said:It is true though. DAMMIT! I've never played Mass Effect, otherwise I totally would have caught that.Mysterious Stranger said:With all due respect, that was from Mass Effect.Undercover said:Me going blah blah blah for 3 paragraphs...Thunderhorse31 said:Why is it when someone says "with all due respect," they really mean, "kiss my ass?"
When you do get around to playing, Ashley Williams says it on Virmire during an exchange with Kaidan. Look for it. It's a great line.Undercover said:DAMMIT! And I'm applying for a job at BioWare, I'm so embarrassed.
I know the dark side, I'm just okay with it. A more powerful civilization pimp-slapped a less powerful civilization. Welcome to the world, here's your ticket, go get it punched.CmRet said:It is true though. Not a lot of people know the dark sides of history.kduff51 said:lol, that is ridiculous
Why in the world would we celebrate the losers of a war? We took land from people and forged a civilization. That's how the world works. Rome didn't have a day to celebrate any of the people (Carthage, for instance) it subjugated. We've also provided a better standard of living for Native Americans (and the descendants of slaves) than they'd get almost anywhere else.Space Spoons said:I can understand the point they're making, but I gotta say, it's a really slippery slope. If you're going to follow that logic, why not reconsider Valentine's Day because the priest Valentine was actually a war criminal? Why not reconsider Independence Day because many of the founding fathers owned slaves?
That said, I do think a nationally recognized holiday for the indigenous people of our nation is warranted. Our country was founded in the bloodshed of these people, and that's something we can't change. I don't think it's unreasonable to, at the very least, show them the respect in modern times that we didn't show them in the past.
I don't even get the fucking day off, in fact I completely forgot it was Columbus Day until about 5 p.m when I checked Newegg, and they had a Columbus day sale.SpyderNynja said:lol, he didn't even, "discover" America is the funniest part.
My girlfriend and I were discussing this today. It's true, we're celebrating this man for absolutely no reason.
...But its a day off from school so whatever.
Will do, it looks like a killer game! And if I get the BioWare gig, I might be writing dialogue for Dragon Age. I really hope I get it even just for one project. Freelancing is great and everything but I've gotten used to eating so unless a whole bunch of investment money drops in my lap real soon I have to get a j-j-j-job...Mysterious Stranger said:When you do get around to playing, Ashley Williams says it on Virmire during an exchange with Kaidan.
