Metal Gear Solid 4. Lots of people hated it (cutscenes are really excessive), but I really enjoyed it. I am a Metal Gear nut, but still. I liked the balance between combat and stealth, you usually have a choice of how to approach situations, unlike in previous games. Lots of people seemed to take this as 'OMG! I CAN JUST SHOOT EVERYONE! THIS ISN'T PROPER MGS!!'.
I'm not a Metal Gear nut but I agree w/ the above.

Also someone needs to praise MGS4 for permitting you to individually select 3rd person / 1st person for normal aim & zoom. You wouldn't think it would be a big thing but once you've had it... It's been an annoyance in every shooter I've played since when I constantly have to switch to FP to fine-aim effectively, then back to TP for environmental awareness.

GET JUST CAUSE 2.
I've blown more time on that than any other game.
I got in on 360, myself, but it'll be the exact same.
No its even better you can directly upload gameplay clips to youtube no capture card required.

But seriously, just look up all the exclusive titles. Sony so far has the best selection of exclusive titles.

Little Big Planet 1 and 2.
My mate bought a PS3 for PSNs downloadable games, and the games in the quote above. Since then it's been collecting dust underneath his Xbox 360. After playing both DD games and LBP1 & 2 I can safely say they are amazing. Truly amazing.

But having played a PS3 and Xbox; Xbox wins hands down. Sure, some of the community can be man-whores, but it's got more exclusives, is now more capable as a home entertainment system, has a much more comfortable/meaty controller and offers a better service overall, but it's jsut so much better in mine and probably many others' opinions. Missing out on the rarely used non-scaled HD and bluray is nothing to weep about and the online is about as free as Everquest 2's "freeness" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.341950-Everquest-Offers-Weak-Free-To-Play-Options]. Oh no! £30 to get full Xbox Live services such as playing online! Oh wait that's less than what most people pay monthly for 3 years for a sodding iPhone.

But since you've not bought a 360 and this post is about PS3, yeah it's worth it's price and has its good solid entertainment, as mentioned above. At least you didn't buy the expensive paperweight and two-bricks + sensor.

3D Dot Heroes - Remember LoZ1? Yep.

Wipeout HD - It's that good.

Got the 80 gig one on and am pretty pumped. But I'm not sure what to get besides the obvious titles like uncharted, infamous, metal gear, demon souls, and heavy rain. Are there any other awesome exclusives? Console only games count because I don't have a 360. Any input would be very much appreciated!
80 gigs? Do yourself a favor before you download or install anything go on amazon and buy a 500 gig SATA hard drive for your ps3. I recommend blue scorpio.

Pass on heavy rain. MY friend played it and died instantly from lack of interest... the next day...

I'm not going to read this whole thread to see if my suggestion has been mentioned. I'm just going to say that InFamous 1 and 2 are fan-babby-tastic and you should play them.

Enjoy your new Playstation. :)

Well apart from the ones you mentioned Littlebigplanet 2 would be an excellent choice and I really liked God of War 3 although apparently that game sucks but I can't find out why, seemed fine to me so maybe give that a shot if you like mythological war on the grandest scale possible.

These are the games that people are going to be talking about from this generation, so it is essentially what you may have "missed out" on.

Assassin's Creed
Uncharted
Infamous
Red Dead Redemption
Bioshock
Saints Row
Demon Souls
Mass Effect
Batman: Arkham
etc.

The best way to get caught up is to go out and look up the "Top 10 games of 2009", 2010, 2011, etc. Cross off any you have played already and see what you are left with. While some of these games on the list are good or great games, many of them may not be your cup of tea. If you want to get caught up on video game culture this generation, this is the best way to do so. Stick to what was a big deal this generation and then venture off into deeper niche territories.

Valkyria Chronicles is a great exclusive, Yakuza 4 is awesome if you love Japan or beating the fuck out of people or really cinematic story lines.

If you're a guy, get Little Big Planet, it's a chick magnet... seriously. I've spent countless hours with beautiful women playing that game. (And get it anyway, because it's a sick game, I'm just listing a side benefit.)

Also, if you like old school games, and specifically Zelda check out 3D Dot Game heroes.

You mentioned Heavy Rain, but I feel the need to stress it. Get. That. Shit.

Also the MGS collection just came out, good time to pick up 4, download Solid, and bam, you'll have every game (including the old school 16-bit Metal Gear 1 & 2 which you can find on the menu for Solid 3, Metal Gear 2 specifically is a masterpiece, way ahead of it's time it plays almost exactly like the Solid) in the series, if you're light on cash after your purchase, which would only make sense, maybe just pick up the collection, 40 bucks for 5 games, one which could easily be called one of the best games of the last generation, is a great deal.

Also, if you have an HD TV, pick up some Blu-rays (or rent them), treat yourself to that high resolution, and be happy to know that Blu-ray discs (which all your games are printed on) are ABSURDLY difficult to scratch (you would have to intentionally do it) and store much more, so enjoy playing Final Fantasy XIII without having to swap discs (and with higher resolution textures).

Welcome to the only sensible choice in the console market.

The only reason I have a PS3 is for blu-ray and the Uncharted series. Oh, and inFamous, though I didn't think much of inFamous 2. So yeah, get the Uncharted series, I love them.

I got my PS3 recently too. You should go for the Resistance series, I disagree that the multiplayer sucks cause I still play Resistance 3 multiplayer all the time.

I also suggest Little Big Planet, I got LBP 2 for £13 on Play.com new.

You might also wanna check out the new Twisted Metal, download the demo before you preorder.

Get a bigger HD before anything else.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Gra Turismo, Heavy Rain, Disgaea, Killzone 2&3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and NG2, God of War HD collection and GoW3, those from the top of my head ;)

And do lock up the PSN for some golden classics from the PS1 era.
