I am a BIG Fallout 3 fan and love exploring every building, cave, drain sewer and recently on the very north edge parts of D.C. i went inside a car facility and found it to be infested with giant ants.

Killed everything inside, found ammo and caps, then i went deeper inside to the factory department. Killed more ants and found a Giant Ant Queen. I was stunned because i have never seen this creature before and i had thought i killed every creature in the Fallout 3 universe. (and yes I do have all of the DLC and killed every animal in Point Lookout, The Pitt, and the new creatures that came in Broken Steel)

So people of the Escapist, have you ever found a certain creature in Fallout 3 that you were surprised to find?
Sadly, that's not a random encounter of sorts. It's from an actual quest. "Those!"

I haven't been surprised by anything though. Maybe the personalities of the residents of Andale. Now that was a fun stop-off.
Different Ant Queen. The ant queen the poster was talking about has nothing to do with the fire-ants. She resides in a northern factory, and it takes two nukes to kill her - or a helluva lot of other ammo. The one in "Those" is a different one.

Oh, and I found the cave with the friendly / invading ants as well. Matter of fact, the most fun I had with that game was when I got the "explorer" feat at lvl 20 and got to go to every location on the map. (There are a few that aren't marked, but that's what the Internet is for.) I'm a natural explorer-type gamer, so this was pretty damn sweet.

The Oasis quest, it's pretty hard to find, and even after 400 hours of gameplay prior, it wasn't until this last play through I had I finally found that place.

Harold was freaky looking...=0

When I first ran into a albino rad scorpion, I shite my self for lack of a better word. I just fired the fat man at it and nearly cried when it hardly damaged it -_-. But the fire ant queen I expected :p
Oh yeah. I was a level 37 character, decked out in everything, and just exploring tryin to level, looking for my last BEhemoth. FOllowing around Crow (the merchant) for company, since it was lonely with just me. Albino comes out of nowhere, I was like, "Oh thats wierd. Must be new for the DLC. Crows body guard will get it." Then Bam Bam Bam, Crow is dead, bodyguard is dead, pack Brahmin is dead, and i am not doing sit for damage with my gatling laser. It was terrifying. I eventually hit it with my Rocket Launcher as a last resort, and just ended up running away because IT WAS NOT DOING ANY GODDAMN DAMAGE AND I ALMOST KILLED MYSELF WITH IT.

Also, I know it doesnt really count, but the invisible Deathclaws. Got one of those once. That was some crazy shit. Tore me apart.

I take it you didn't do the mission in Greyditch?

OT: It was quite a while before I'd seen a Deathclaw, and my first encounter was when it came out of nowhere, hit from behind, and proceeded to hand my ass to me in a gift-wrapped box. Freaked me the fuck out.

Dammit... I wanna see an albino scorpion! I've been playing this game since launch and I've never seen one.

But yeah, the bugs tend to surprise me and send me into panic mode. However, my biggest scare was in the metro, the first time I saw a Mr. Handy came floating around the corner. I was all, "Oh, an NPC, cool. Hello, Mr. Row-butt. Do you happen to know the way to-...AUGH! I'MONFIREWHYAMIONFIREOHSWEETMOTHEROFMERCYMAKETHEBURNINGSTOPANDNOWHE'S
SHOOTINGPLASMAAGRRRRG!!!!!!!"

Harold had to be the biggest shock for me. Partly because he just looked so freaky,
and partly because I had to kill him

One time, I was in VATS fighting some raiders (at that drive-in place down near the Dunwich building) when a Giant Radscorpion cartwheeled past.

I still have no idea where it came from.
A yaoi gui fell on me one time in exactly that situation. It didn't do any damage, of course, because it was just a corpse. I think one of the raiders I was fighting at the moment had killed it earlier, and it took a while to come down.

...speaking of coming down, anyone here ever EMIRVed themselves so high they could see the whole map? I have, multiple times.

EDIT: PS: Dealing with albino radscorpions is easy. Dart gun them so they aren't faster than you any more, then back away while rippering them. It'll take some time, but they do die.

I faced pretty much any bad guy I know of, except for maybe that Wanderer hostile I heard of,

maybe when I get back to Fallout 3, I'll seek him out.

Like a lot of people, I got scared shitless of the fire ants in Grayditch. At first I thought "Oh, they're just ants. They're easy." Then the fire "HOLY SHIT!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?!?"

Considering they only put about 5 different enemies into the game this never happened to me. My first Deathclaw encounter was pantshitting worthy however.

Fallout 3 doesn't have that many different enemy types. I fought all of them in one play through easily.
Luckily, I have the PC version and mod in new content giving the game a lot more replay value than it would have normally.

Also on an somewhat unrelated topic, fuck The Pitt. Worst of the DLC. I AM ASHUR AND I WANT YOU TO JOIN ME AND REBUILD THE PITT TOGETHER!

OH YEAH I'LL JOIN YOU ASHUR IT'LL BE SWE-DLC OVER EVERYONE GO HOME

I was too busy laughing my ass off to actually fight when a pack of Mad Brahmin attacked me on a bridge once. I was walking across it, looked at my compass and saw the red dots and though "ok there must be bandits behind the cows" then the cows just started running at me mooing furiously!

I recently installed Broken Steel. I found a hostage tied up in a tent in the DC ruins. I was untied her, then watched in horror as an Overlord came around the corner and punched her head off. Then he punched me into the river. It was then that I remembered that they had added new enemies to balance out the raised level cap. Scared the crap out of me though. One minute I was the gung-ho savior of humanity, next minute I was pinwheeling through the air going WHAAAAAT THE FUUUUCCCK.
