I laugh at your pitiful attempt to force me to justify an act over which I have no control. Who is this creature that dares to ask me to justify my existence? I am, I have been, and I will be. Why came to be was beyond my control, though what I make of my life shall not be constrained by pitiful minds, pitiful creatures, and pitiful challenges. But more to the point, who are you to ask me? Justify that act! How are you superior to me? Are you the immortal creator of all that is? No? Well, have you overcome the limitations of our species, have you transcended what it means to be human? No? Aw, such a shame...

Ah! Well this was also asked on the show? The answer? The robot takes on the persona of whoever it is judging at the time. You are judged by yourself your worst critic, who knows all your faults and if you are lieing or not.

Because of all the lives I've touched, I often go out of my way to help other people I'm an example of selflessness even when I'm in one of those moods where I wish everyone would just go away.

EDIT: Hell if whoever I'd be replaced by would do all this and significantly more go ahead and erase me anyway.

in that case I'll also add that I believe myself to be pretty damn awesome to my answer.

Because your beloved, benevolent god hates me and tries to make me kill myself. Since this and the system he let the humans design seem designed to make me miseraable and want to do it i have to live to show god right in his face that he can just go right ahead and piss himself.

Tl;dr I live to spite god, and really, isn't that something every robot should want?

But this robot believes there is no god?

Ah, now it's getting interesting. 'course, the same line of reasoning applies. In order to be judged, the judge must be superior to the accused. This can never be the case when one is judged by themselves. Continuing on this train of thought, one arrives at the conclusion that one can never be limited by what others claim, their laws, and their ideas. The self is paramount, one's own desires justify anything, even harm onto others. To answer the original question as succinctly as possible: I do not exist because I think, I exist because I can.

Also, is there anything named "xustr" here? Captcha wants me to press it...

Because I am a creature of reason, (whatever you may think of humanity, be it the smug: 'we're the best beings on this planet', or the whiny, pretentious: 'we're a parasite on the only known living planet', all humans are by nature creatures of reason, it is probably the only statement that it has been pointless to challenge the last 2400 years) thus my potential cannot be calculated since I'm able to act acording to free will.

This is the justification I would present a machine like a robot presented in the original scenario. If I was to justify my existence to a human my answer would be:

I'm a living being. If you need more justification than that you're as morally bankrupt as a nazi.

Because my life had influences my closest friends. By removing me you will greatly affect the outcome of my closest friend?s lives. Also I have a creative mind that could one day be seen by many people that is if I can put in physical form.

Do you really wanna take that chance? Do you really want to get rid of the only guy who might be able to get rid off boneitis?! WELL?! DO YOU?!
my only regret is having boneitis.

OT: i'm a pretty swell guy. chances are, considering what a sociopath my father was, my sperm-siblings would probably end up as serial rapists. so... while i'm not terribly useful, i'm the lesser of quite a few evils.

Why do you deserve life?
"Deserve's got nothing to do with it"

There is no objective standard by which you could asses if someone deserves to live or not . It depends entirely on the point of view of the guy/robot who's holding a gun to your head.

*SPOILER*

I've helped some friends and family members in need.

I do regular volunteer work for a local museum.

I've donated a fair amount of money to charitable causes.

I'm pretty tolerant of other people's beliefs.

I've made funny Team Fortress 2 videos.

Also I have a moustache. That alone should be enough.

all the more reason. after seeing all the religious nutjobs who say 'i get to live cuz god says so' someone who lives for the opposite reason definitely has a place in the world, if only to keep the rest of the species grounded, with their heads out of the clouds that no, god's word is not enough to make the world a happy place.

I'm so awesome I don't need justification.

No, I'm an artist. Even if I'm never going to write the great American novel, I still brighten the world around me with my music and stories.

And this robot believes it exists to judge peoples existence, therefor it believes your existence is useless and another sperm could have done something better unless you have done something to justify being. Touche though good sir! You put up quite the argument into this and a lot of thought.
