Hello all,

I now have a very inactive job - as a student I worked as a shelf stacker - kitchen porter etc, and now I sit and stare at thousands of lines of code a day. When I go home I like to relax and game. This is starting to take its toll.

I absolutely despise the gym, I went for a year and it worked - it just bored me to tears!

Do you guys have any interesting ways to keep fit or any exciting sports that a nerd might like?

No motion video games please - we all know they don't really work!

Extra pornography.

Actually I hit the campus gym when possible. Blah.

Just gotta get in the habit of it. You got a pool [on campus]? I tried to do an hour in the pool once a week too.

You got any friends that you can drag out for a jog once or twice a week?
Or who'll play squash with you a couple of times a week?
Or what about joining a local football team, I find six a side once a week helps loads, not to mention 11 a side, which did wonders for my fitness.
Or what about swimming? It's a full body workout, though it's quite time consuming and also a little boring if you wanna get good results out of it. You need to be swimming at least a mile a week.

Best way I can think of is to take walks. As we all know walking by itself can get boring if you don't feel like just retreating into your mind. The motivation is certainly hard to stir when you really have an attachment to your games.

What I do is I call up a couple of friends of mine, usually other gamers of the tabletop or video persuasion and we just walk. It is easy to just walk in the sun for hours while getting lost in conversation about a hobby, or for some, a way of life. That way you can get exercise and still enjoy yourself.

I absolutely love the gym, every time I use an ab machine I can see the stretch marks on my chest because I do it so frequently.

The beach?God damn I freaking hate the beach, too much sand and I fidget too much, I can't lie comfortably without a pillow and I don't wanna bring a pillow to the beach, lieing down getting rays is so boring to me, at least with the gym you're doing something

Also it's kinda of ironic I live in the Gold Coast and hate beaches.

Here's a tip to going to the Gym, do the excersises you want to do, that you want to see improvements on whatever area you train. Like if you want big biceps do bicep training, etc. Don't bother training on your Calves unless it's for a sport. Of course i don't go to the Gym for excersise I go their to feed my body image. Maybe you should develop unhealthy body images, like omg my chest is so flat, i should get it pumped.

Rock climbing. I'm not even kidding. It's like puzzle solving melded with actual upperbody strength!

Run up and down the stairs over and over and over again...

Probably not the most balanced exercise program, and you'll look like an idiot to anyone who sees you, but it's GREAT for the calfs!

I walk my dog almost daily (I say almost because its the time of year when rain and excessive humidity or 45C heat are the norm). I also do the odd stint on my mum's treadmill. Plug the iPod in, switch on the machine, and while the time away.
