Do you guys have any interesting ways to keep fit or any exciting sports that a nerd might like?
Mountain bikes!

Loads of nerdy technology and endless set up options. Plus vision blurring speed, masses of hard work and (sometimes) sheer, unbridled terror. It certainly holds my attention.

Plus the UK's one of the most mtb friendly places in the world.

Or something less involved like swimming, but that might get you bored like the gym.

I always had trouble finding exercise that is fun so I gave up and went for simple. Simple exercises such as pushups/running are great for staying in shape and can be done quickly. An mp3 player is what makes running bearable for me. If your concerned about body image just count calories, I lost about 10lbs that way.

Diet is the most important thing you can do. Literally, you are what you eat. Exercise helps to lose weight but it's not nearly as effective as exercise. Dieting is also way more important for your health too.

Calories from the food you eat are what makes you fat. You need to consume less calories than burn in order to lose weight. The average male burns between 2000- 2500 calories a day with no exercise. You can burn about 500 calories 35 minutes of running. However, you can consume 350 calories from 1 blueberry muffin. That's why I believe diet is much more important

I'm not suggesting you follow diet fads or plans but there are a few easy guidelines:

eat only when you are hungry
stop eating when you're full
avoid large servings of food

I'd suggest changing your diet first, then work on exercise. If you absolutely can't change your diet, then start with easy exercise like walking and work your way up.

Perfect sport to play for nerds. Basketball. You don't need anyone else just you, the ball and the goal. Perfect way to start getting in shape.

Also try walking at first. Then go to walking while wearing a conditioning vest (aka a weighted vest flak jacket type thing). Then if your really up to hardcore stuff run three miles while wearing the vest at 40lbs. Like I do three times a week.

Trust me, you'll get into shape real quick, stay in shape for a long while, and people will look at you and say "That guy is either crazy, tough or both."

They may even call you sexy but that maybe pushing it a bit.

Running is good. At the moment i do a 40 minute run 4 days a week. That keeps me in good enough shape until i can afford to get my gym membership.

Well for awhile i had the same issue you were having how to stay fit yet enjoy hardcore gaming! And well i joind the military and i learnd a few trickes to be a gamer and be Fit enought to fight. all i do is say during loading screens or after a level i get down and do crunches or pushups in my room till the cut secene or loading / patching is complet then back to gaming and way i see it should be just as effective regardless if military or civilin . also rpgs have been great for me lol woot Long Cut Scenes and loading screens! but any way back to PT (physical Traning) Crunches and push ups are pritty simple and effective way to stay in shape and build up Core Mucels and if u dont want to do thos 2 Can all ways do Mouten Climbers or the Plank . Mouten Climbers will build up your legs and ab's with out hte need to go out side and run and Plank is where u just stay in the Push up (up) positen and just hold it there as long as u can which helps build up the Core Mucles which are used for Alote of Diffrent Activites *lifting - push ups - crunches etc) hope this helps from a Nerdy Military Gamer :p

Right now, I'm not blowing up because my campus takes up a good portion of my city and I try to walk to work when I can.

So.. walking.

But yeah, if I'm really bored, maybe go to the gym and walk on the elliptical machines. The ones at my gym have t.v.s built in so it's not so boring.

I don't want to do any REAL working out.

Buy a bike. So long as you attempt hills and spend long enough on it you will see results pretty fast. And it's fun.

Maybe if I sort out this conundrum that sport will take over? I don't have a girlfriend right now and all the girls in glasgow are made of fail!
Good christ is this not the bloody truth.

Uhh well boxing works for me abit more fun than going to the gym and alot better for stress which working in a call centre will build fast >_>

Do body weight exercises like push-ups, chin-ups.
Also buy a skipping rope, like holy shit. If you have a spare 2x2m space of floor than you can get one of the best work outs...

I do Karate three times a week. It's actually pretty fun, and I usually leave sweating. Not only that, but YOU GET TO HIT PEOPLE! WOOO!

I know you said no motion games, but I can attest that during the time when I took up Dance Dance Revolution while I was at uni, I was probably in better physical shape than I'd been in years AND I had a lot of fun. Seriously.
