Am I the only one who didn't really like it? Personally its one of those films that you could probably have on in the background while I was doing something else.
On the internet, you are never the only one. There were only about three funny moments in it. I'm continually arguing with my friends about why Hot Fuzz is a much better 'action-comedy'. They just don't listen.

I liked it enough that i'd happily go see it in the cinema again, if only just to see more of Big Daddy. Nicholas Cage is one of the most interesting actors about just for how he can either be fucking terrible or amazing. he has no middle ground :p

Here's a way more accurate review of Kick-Ass - and it's from notorious misery guts Peter Bradshaw: http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/mar/31/kick-ass-review-film.

Also, a note to Jonathan Ross: I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR WIFE.

I'm listening and I can say that I fully agree with you, Hot Fuzz was definately superior in my opinion

Well I thought it was brilliant, very well directed, with great uses of humour and action shots. The characters were likeable, the plot clever, new and different which meant the whole thing was incredibley enjoyable.

In the dailymail.co.uk review the only thing i found nearly enjoyable to see was this:
But she [hit girl] has been systematically abused by her father, brainwashed and turned into a pint-sized

And it ends there! How they let that simple mistake to get through is quite laughable.

I thought it was a very enjoyable film. I like the refrence too Layer Cake which is one of my favourate films. Highlights for me are either the torture scene, the small phone convo about the new tree microwave or the final corridor fight which reminded me of Old Boy. Only fault with the film was that some parts i felt went no where and i didnt like the jet pack at all =$

I was disappointed they killed off Big Daddy, I didn't feel the movie needed it and we could have got to know his character a bit better. I mean he was a tragic enough character anyway, as was Hit Girl, the death (and the manner it happened) was just a bit too much.
I'll be seeing it tonight, but as someone said in a post not too long after this original post...it's a comic. So those that actually read the comic already know that Big Daddy dies. It's the key part to the end of the story really, at least as far as Hit-girl is concerned. Not trying to say you actually need to read the comic or whatever. I am sure most people seeing the movie havent the slightest idea it IS a comic. From what I saw in the previews, it's fairly accurate to the comic, much like I thought when I saw previews for Watchmen (and I know plenty don't agree, but I feel the movie was pretty damn accurate, ending aside.) Only part I have an issue with is seeing Dave make out with some chick, which I'm assuming is the popular girl in school he wants to get with in the comic. In the comic he says he's gay so he can spend time with her, eventually admitting he's not and getting slapped for it. So it appears they played a different angle on that. Also from the previews it doesn't seem to be a completely different story much like the comic writers other book turned movie: Wanted. That movie was WAAAAAAAAY off from the comic, though as a movie I didn't think it was bad, just disappointing if you read the book (which I suggest doing.) Done rambling for now!

I quite liked the film, much better than what I had expected, alot more dark aswell.
And I agree that the jetpack did seem to not really fit with the rest of the movie
WHY DID BIG DADDY HAVE TO DIE??????!!!!! That moment was heartbreaking (though I do cry alot in movies)

Another highlight for me was the night-vision FPS sequence where Hit Girl turns into Soap McTavish.

Those were some of my concerns too, as well as the "Bat-Man-ing" of Big Daddy to draw more people in who hadn't read the comic. In the comic, he (and Hit Girl, look like this, btw;

Well, I wasn't expecting it to be as violent as it was, but damn it, it was fun as hell and a nice affront to good taste. Very well directed too. Much better than a lot of recent movies with the same concepts. I think it succeeded mainly because it was so violent, it actually satisfied the audience in that regard.

Incidentally, the Daily Mail's article tearing into it is hilarious. I believe the term for it would be 'Completely missing the point'.

Here we go

Once again, the Daily Mail proves their ability to link absolutely anything to paedophilia, knife crime and Jamie Bolger. Paranoid rubbish, but hilarious.

I love the verdict they give it. "Verdict: Evil"
What's even better? The fact that so many people put comments taking the piss out of it by picking up on the same point as you have, and that these comments got literally hundreds of positive ratings from other readers, mean that they are "no longer accepting comments for this article". Cowards.

Funny enough, I'm actually guarding a viewing of this movie tonight along with 3 other guards trying to stop people from recording it. We'll see about that.

I literally jizzed in my pants with the Jetpack scene. I was like omfg this is so awesome. I was expecting a Minigun ontop of one of those robot vacuum cleaners. Well anyway now I have an idea for a future weapon.

It was absolutely superb. Best comic adaptation since Watchmen. (Yes that includes Dark Knight).

I love how the Mail review accuses it of ripping off Spider-Man 2. Films like Spider-Man, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Fantastic 4 etc... are exactly what is ruining the image of comics.

Comics have had to put up with being accused of childishness and cliche for so long, then when they are finally accepted to be genuine literature, they are turned into horrible, kid-friendly, Hollywood merch-machines.

Kick Ass, Watchmen and Dark Knight are unfortunately very much in the minority.

Yeah, they kinda took away the whole home-made costume away from Big Daddy a bit, and I'm very wary of Nick Cage playing him. I don't think Nick Cage is a BAD actor...he just doesn't sit right with me in a lot of his roles. This is one of those roles I group him in, but from the general consensus so far, he did great at it, so we shall see. Will be watching it in about 2 hours.

Having read the comic before hand I can say that I honestly didn't like the movie as much. It's not a terrible movie I just don't think that the changes were for the better. They took out what made the comic great and made the movie rather cliqued.

From The Comments:
I'm glad you wrote this, because otherwise I might not have seen this film.
That made me laugh.

OT: I haven't seen this yet, (not released in the US until tomorrow), but if it's anything like the comic, I know for a fact that I will love this movie.

PS In case anyone is wondering, my Avatar is the hit girl as she appears in the comics.

I can't watch the movie anyway so might as well look at the thread!

-Me before entering this thread.

Okay, I was imagining what would happen and I was like: "I bet Big Daddy dies". A bit too predictable?

Read it, that was pretty funny. They completely missed the point.
