Good article, especially, "Oh, and one of the male teenage characters acknowledges that he's attracted to her (11 year old hit girl). "
I found the movie morally problematic in so many ways, but, because I am a major comic book geek, loved it anyway. G-d help me. I loved it.
The action scenes, (the strobe one in particular) were among the best I've seen since Dark Knight (kidnap in China being my favorite). I laughed at the right spots, thought it kept to its ideals well (Kickass doesn't morph into a particularly competent fighter).
But, again, the sexualization of Hit girl, the abuse Big Daddy did to her, very sick.
A writer artist named Rick Veitch did a similar deconstruction 20 years ago, where "Batman" really was sexually abusing "Robin", who endured it to learn the ways of crime fighting. Terrific series. The "Superman" brought up in Kansas by farmers was actually a super threat to his adoptive parents. As an infant, he would suckle a finger like any other baby, but with his super strength would accidently bite the finger off, etc. Bratpack. Very unsettling even then in only comic book form, never mind a big screen treatment.
