Is he a racist skinhead? Wait, nevermind that. What is with all of these kids that are able to get legal counciling? I can't even get my name changed.

For that ONE offense, no. For being a fricken' skin head, YES.
Being a skin head doesn't automatically make you a racist.

If he is a racist he shouldn't be banned anyways. It's not like he said anything racist in that sentence.

Expulsion is a little too far. It is definitely worth a detention though, not because it's against the president but because it was disruptive and uncalled for. Even your description of him makes an expulsion ridiculous, and suspension may even be too far.

Its things like these that are hard for me. I mean, Freedom of speech is good, but I strongly disagree freedom of speech when its used for hatred.
Then it isn't really freedom, is it?
Exactly, its not.

Swearing in school? WHOAH! Gotta draw the line somewhere! I think suspension would be a better case in this situation, but maybe this was the last straw kinda incident?
My school has a "Swear all you want, as long as you don't verbally abuse a student, or let a teacher or staff member hear you"

Freedom of speech is meant to protect speech you disagree with. No one is going to fight for speech that everyone agrees with.

Even the most vile racist hate speech should be allowed.

Not being there, I can't really side with either party on this.
I did learn one thing in school that made sense, though: "Your rights are yours, and you can do with them as you please, until they interfere with somebody elses rights."
Basically, you have the right to free speech. But if you're going to use it in a hurtful and disruptful way, without it being for the common good, then you don't have that right anymore.

The story as I understand it, I'd side with the school on this, at least for the removing from class.

Also, I know in the states that "skinhead" means racist, but I'm pretty sure our EU folks have a different definition for it. Someone care to enlighten?

I'm sorry but I see nothing racist in his remark, right-wing or not he has a right to blame whoever he wants to on our economic situation, regardless of the fact that Obama is in his 4th month as P.O.T.U.S. Obama skin color could not have been a factor for blaming him on the economy, he could genuinely think that it is Obama's fault for our economic situation.

I specifically said that he shouldn't have been expelled for that particular incident.

I'm pretty sure that you can't be kicked out of school for a single dumbass moment, but given that this particular dumbass seems to have a lengthy track record of dumbassitude, I can see how this might've been the last straw. Personally, I don't think I'd miss him.

Considering how some people feel about Obama, im surprised the kid wasnt shot...just kidding.

Seriously though, thats pretty tame considering what some people said about Bush or Clinton, or come to think of it most Presidents. Just going off what he said...which is all the school should be concerned about at this point, yeah expulsion was uncalled for in this case.

Having said that it sounds like your friend is a nut who is on the very tip of the feathers on the right wing and is in danger of falling off. Still he does have the right to freedom of speech and so do I which I why I say he is a nut...but he should not have been expelled unless this isnt the first time he has been warned.

If I were the teacher, I'd have punched him in the mouth for talking in class.

Who cares if he doesn't like Obama? He should be expelled for being a racist ("skin head" often means "racist," anymore.)
You know that not having hair doesn't make you automatically racist. When I got my hair shaved I didn't just jump up and yell "Them damn nigras!!". Regardless, we still don't know all of the facts of the situation. I agree that the teacher should have sat his ass back down forcefully I also agree he has every right to complain about Obama.

You said he should be expelled for being a skin head. Obviously you think he should be expelled because you assume he is a racist.

Ha ha I do that in school like every day and yes i think he has every right of freedom of speech (I'm not just saying that because I agree about obama's crappy performance as president)
But the guy been only in office for 3(right?) months trying to clean the mess that the other guy been doing for 8 years! :p
Everyone blames all of our countries on bush "bush's fault" broken record. Do some research and see what Obama's done so far and what he plans to do.

Note:Ammendments are not enforced in the educational facilities, while the child is being taught. Thus, no freedom of speech.

Libel/slander is not protected by the First Ammendment (I'm assuming you're American). And even if it was, he could have been expelled for disrupting the educational process.

Maybe this is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Wow. I mean, if the kid's a skin head and as troublesome as you described he probably deserves it, but I thought there was free speech in this country? And the girl getting yelled at for not doing the Pledge? The only reason I tolerate a school-wide patriotic chant like that every day is because it's not mandatory at all. You can't force people to do that!

You live in California huh? Tell your school to stop being so damn restrictive or I'll be forced to.

He got expelled for that? I was discussing with my science teacher how "Rudd is selling us to the gooks" and he didn't care at all. Incredibly offensive conversation but then again, I learned nothing in Science last term.
