Still, that's pretty stupid. Hell, I used to have a Death list myself, bu I never did anything...
[sup]or did I???[/sup]
It sounds like he's just copying the animie though. You have to write down the dates ofwhen you want the person to die next to the person you want to die's name.
Can people not make that connection?
A) You cannot expect everyone (especially separated by generation) to make the connection to an obscure crappy anime.
B) It seems that as of the broadcasts, they
have made the connection.
C) Whether his list is created out of the blue or inspired by a cartoon only speaks of the writer's originality, not his intent.

The only ones who've committed a crime here are the one's on the list. Bullying is illegal, why aren't the police investigating the scumbags on the list?
No. Simply no. We have what he wrote on paper vs. his mom's testimony on the bullies. Guess which evidence holds more weight?

Sorry, but you are way off base. It's just some poor, bullied kid venting his frustration by emulating something he saw on a cartoon. Nothing more, nothing less.

The school was not justified in the suspension of the child. he didn't mean any harm in it, literally. it's equivalent to thinking "Man that guy's an ass ,I wish he were dead." In passing. The kid knew nothing was going to happen, and likely did not have the intention of anything happening.
How do we possibly know either of the above without getting into the boy's head?

Well, he had a list of people he wants to kill, so... he got suspended. Is this really controversial?
Saying "well, you see, there's a cartoon where you're allowed to kill anyone for whom you write a death note*," is a pretty crappy defense, and basically provides evidence for wanting to make him see a psychiatrist.
*: I got that off wikipedia
Agreed.
Yeah, I have to be a devil's advocate, here. Maybe (likely) it was nothing, just an adolescent acting out. Nothing would have come of it, and the folks that come down on the situation seem to be prudes, fascists, etc. But what if this is a sign of something different in this boy? What if th .5% likelihood plays out, and this is the next Columbine? Do you dare be the next teacher, school administrator, or local politician that saw the signs and
ignored them? Yes, he probably should be counseled instead of suspended, but I gotta figure that's in the works.
Sure, he probably is just letting off steam - but what if writing names on a piece of paper doesn't satisfy? What's the next step? And I'm no fan of Bieber, but if he's on the list with nine other non-celebrity peers, it shows a certain disconnect with reality.
We're basically balancing the comfort and convenience of on demonstrably anti-social youth against the safety of 9 others (I think Bieber can take care of himself). In that context, there really isn't a question of what's more important.
