This proves that mothers should also read Manga. Also, if i were to get my hands on a Death Note... Justin Bieber would be one of the first to go and i couldn't help but think that if he wanted to be like Light and kill with a Death Note he should've tried harder to keep it a secret.

Lol she wants a kid taken out of school for that. Her sons probably a douche if hes on such a list so maybe she should spend more time trying to be a good parent with her own son than complaining about the children of others

you could understand that people that have never seen deathnote could be a little creeped out.
I agree, since we know Death Note, the whole thing is normal, its what the death note is about.

Someone who doesn't know Death Note however, will most definitely think it is a hit list.

justin bieber, that part gave me a solid smile.

You can get suspended for trying to lay a voodoo curse on somebody. This isn't unusual at all.

Heh, I love how the mum suggests the Kid getting bullied (who wrote the "Deathnote") should be kicked out of school rather than, say, her kid who is bullying him.

How. fucking. retarded.

Well, he had a list of people he wants to kill, so... he got suspended. Is this really controversial?

Saying "well, you see, there's a cartoon where you're allowed to kill anyone for whom you write a death note*," is a pretty crappy defense, and basically provides evidence for wanting to make him see a psychiatrist.

*: I got that off wikipedia
So he would get the same punishment if he tried to imaginary kill the same students by uttering the "deathcurse" from the harry potter books ?

Well they still burn witches in some places, so i guess we havent really left the dark ages quite yet.

Yes! OH YES! This is SO FUCKING HILARIOUS! Possible hit list? Fear for their kids? Psychological problems? Kid should be arrested? Justin Bieber on a death note page? What can possibly make this story more exaggerated or retarded (or more awesome :p)?

Sorry, this story overloaded my censors.

Nice rebuttal. Anyway they can't prove that the boy pictured the kids faces in his head when he wrote the names. Therefore they can't prove he actually wanted to kill the kids.

He was obviously a fan of death note and reenacted what he saw on TV.

I think it's very clear that he was imitating the anime series of the similar name and that it was very unlikely he wanted to cause anyone real harm. People writing on a list with random dates is not in and of itself all that sinister. Sure I can understand the parental concern but I really think that without any substantial evidence to suggest that the kid is actually a sociopath it's not something to be concerned about.

Also as much as I laughed about the name Justin Bieber being on that list I also use that as my primary reason for why the list cannot mean he is a killer. Because sure, he may have listed names of hated people that he knew but then he also added Justin Bieber, I find it doubtful he plans to, or has the resources to, kill Justin Bieber so one can guess he was either making a hypothetical wish or just joking around.
And if he was joking around for Bieber odds are he was joking around for all of them, same goes for the hypothetical wish.

This is the most ridiculous story I have ever heard. What kind of a school punishes a kid for writing some names on a piece of paper. Hell, for trying to kill Justin Bieber he should get a medal.

Still, that's pretty stupid. Hell, I used to have a Death list myself, bu I never did anything...

[sup]or did I???[/sup]

It sounds like he's just copying the animie though. You have to write down the dates ofwhen you want the person to die next to the person you want to die's name.

Can people not make that connection?
A) You cannot expect everyone (especially separated by generation) to make the connection to an obscure crappy anime.
B) It seems that as of the broadcasts, they have made the connection.
C) Whether his list is created out of the blue or inspired by a cartoon only speaks of the writer's originality, not his intent.

No. Simply no. We have what he wrote on paper vs. his mom's testimony on the bullies. Guess which evidence holds more weight?

Sorry, but you are way off base. It's just some poor, bullied kid venting his frustration by emulating something he saw on a cartoon. Nothing more, nothing less.

The school was not justified in the suspension of the child. he didn't mean any harm in it, literally. it's equivalent to thinking "Man that guy's an ass ,I wish he were dead." In passing. The kid knew nothing was going to happen, and likely did not have the intention of anything happening.
How do we possibly know either of the above without getting into the boy's head?

Agreed.
Yeah, I have to be a devil's advocate, here. Maybe (likely) it was nothing, just an adolescent acting out. Nothing would have come of it, and the folks that come down on the situation seem to be prudes, fascists, etc. But what if this is a sign of something different in this boy? What if th .5% likelihood plays out, and this is the next Columbine? Do you dare be the next teacher, school administrator, or local politician that saw the signs and ignored them? Yes, he probably should be counseled instead of suspended, but I gotta figure that's in the works.

Sure, he probably is just letting off steam - but what if writing names on a piece of paper doesn't satisfy? What's the next step? And I'm no fan of Bieber, but if he's on the list with nine other non-celebrity peers, it shows a certain disconnect with reality.

We're basically balancing the comfort and convenience of on demonstrably anti-social youth against the safety of 9 others (I think Bieber can take care of himself). In that context, there really isn't a question of what's more important.

Wow. I hate when shit like this gets blown out of proportion. You don't take you Death Notes with you on the bus, you leave them at home next to your voodoo dolls. maybe the parents should be looking at the names of the kids he wrote, they had to have done something to piss him off enough to write the names in there.

Epic Win on the Justin Bieber thing.

Well writing a list of people you want dead is not illegal. NOt at all. He's being punished because it's anti-social behaviour and schools don't need students to break the law to be able to punish them.

Sending death threats is, of course illegal, but that's not what this kid did.

The woman who claimed that the kid was bullied was the mother of one of the bullies (a kid on the list) not the mother of the suspended kid. So if she admits her son was bullying the suspended kid it holds more weight.

And the school admins/politicians are doing nothing to help the situation, if this child is the .5% of the population who snaps under pressure and kills people, why are they making it worse for him by suspending and trying to have him arrested, and doing nothing to combat the actual problem here, the bullying.

No-one should be put in the position where they have no way out of their misery but to kill their tormentors.

Yes I'm exaggerating, as this is likely just a kid who's picked on a little, maybe not to such terrible extremes. But it doesn't change the fact that he's the victim here, not the kids on the list.

My friend went half of last year carrying a deathnote he made around school. When the teachers finally noticed it they asked him what it was and he explained it was from a tv show and he meant no harm and it was left at that. I have no idea how people can blow stuff so out of proportion like this.
