and the followup
http://www.wpxi.com/video/23521890/index.html

how they portray the death note as a notepad i found to be a little funny
Lmao "Jumbled nonsensical dates". You think these people would mention the reference to the anime/manga. I think it is sort of unfair and secretive, if not ignorant journalism.
All they needed to do was type death note into wikipedia and they would have known the rules of the death note. That said the reporter looked pretty old - she probably still thinks the internet is a fad.

As a fellow anime fan, I sense a lot of blind defense of anime going on in these comments without seeing things from a non-otaku perspective. Yes, schools have to do whatever they can to prevent another Columbine. They have to take anything that looks like a potential threat seriously. School and cops see a notebook with "Death Note" written on it with names inside, they get concerned. Even knowing the anime, I would be concerned too. We really don't know if this kid was serious or not, so if I saw one of my students carrying something like that, and I was in charge of keeping the school a safe environment for every student, I would have to act to prevent putting any kids in danger. That means treating a Death Note with names in it like a death threat. In fact knowing the anime makes me even more nervous. That kid got what he deserved for bringing a death list into school, and I hope the school will, for mental health and safety's sake, get him help and do what they can to stop the bullies.

LMFAO. Oh, and my suspesion was correct, they did point to Death Note as a "guideance"..well atleast that mother who's overly freaking out, didn't blame it, atleast from what I saw. People have gotta just take a step back, and look at all sides of the cake.
There's some dented sides of the "perfect 'he should be arrested'" cake thing that the one mother who was like "He should be arrested" should look at. Probably her child being one of those dents in the cake.

What I do so love is that the parents who are concerned for having their children's name put on a kid's list is that they often did something to warrant it.

Maybe the kid's name was put on the Death Note because he was a fucking asshole who picked on others all the time? What if they pulled a huge prank on the author?

Parent like the think that the children of other parents are rotten and the result of parenting that isn't the way theirs is. But when faced with the probability their child is a little shit, they often come on the news and say "Oh he was such a sweet little boy, I didn't think he would ever do something like this" says the mother after her child shot up a school or committed a major felony.

the biggest prank pulled in that school was someone got poo rubbed all over there stuff and locker because they stuck deer balls on the outer kids porch(my class was a bit weird) this is a bit on the tame side compared to something that strange

He should get the suspension and maybe talks with his parents about the other kids giving him shit, instead of suspending him and overreacting and pointing fingers (police seem a bit unnecessary). And I knew like 2 or 3 kids who did this before death note.

The police were called because it was as simple as yelling down the hall

the kid only got 3 days OOS(he was back in school by the time i posted this article because it took them that long to post video for the followup)

ooooh! i thought he was punished for having bad taste in anime
That would be the case if he came to school in either orange pajamas or with a giant sword... or both.

It's just kid's wild imagination... but then again, with our super safe schools and our super moral and friendly environment in said schools, saying something like "kill" might get you kicked soon.

Treating it as the next fucking columbine is just retarded. Although frankly they kinda deserved it at Columbine. Don't piss people off unless you want to get shot in the face.

Wow Pimppeter all I can say is that you fill me with rage. "Yeah sure let's punish the kid but do nothing to the bullies since we don't have documented evidence!" Yeah sure. Let the bullies who made this kid miserable enough to make a death note keep on with their abuse because you don't have video taped evidence *rolls eyes*. It's a gradeschool for God's sake. If a child says other kids are bullying him then you can bet they are really bullying him.

actually the councilors at the high school claimed that the students never said they told them were being bullied...then tried to hide the papers that said otherwise. they knew what was going on and just ignored it and told them to suck it up. which then caused the boys to go nuts and reenact the clearout scene from dawn of the dead.

This is why you should have a "Do not kill list." It implies that you want to kill people and you might kill but there is nothing much people can do.
