Killzone 2 in my opinion having watched various videos on Youtube probably going to be one of the best games of 2009 and win a whole stack of awards. But the fact that the Killzone franchise with a mediocre PS2 debut and a PSP sequel both of which in terms of sales according to VG Charts sold less than a million combined could really hurt this game.

Also the European release date may be problamatic in terms of Sales in the PAL regions its going up against Halo Wars. Now if you pit the two brands together Halo who's last franchise
launch Halo 3 sold like stink has enough brand strength as a billion dollar franchise that Halo Wars could and probably will outsell Killzone 2 in the first month mainly due to the inclusion of the mythic map pack which will send Halo fanboys into a buying frenzy.

So Killzone 2 right game wrong franchise?

I disagree.
Even though Killzone didn't sell well it got great reviews.
I think it is a good franchise for the game!

I don't think so. The first game wasn't THAT bad. Wasn't great, but definitely playable. I guess for all the hype it got and failed to live up to, it NEEDED a decent sequel.

I'm all for game series redeeming themselves though, so I don't think it was the wrong franchise at all.

I don't think it's fair to say that because the first two installments were flops that this game deserves to be called something else. If anything this is exactly what the killzone franchise needs because it essentially is an entire re-vamping of a series that, for a lack of a better term, is "broken". I actually think this would be more praised than halo 3 because it needed to make some drastic changes where as halo 3 felt that they got it right the first time, why change anything?

KZ2 has a bit of an uphill battle against the original's lack of stellar reputation, and Sony's incompetent marketing department (the prerendered trailer claimed as realtime, bullshots, etc.), and the fact that it's coming out close to Street Fighter IV, which is pretty much a cultural icon of gaming, but the PS3 is so starved of really good shooters I expect it would sell anyway.

Killzone 2 is currently polling 94/100 on Metacritic with 37 reviews counted. No one gives a shit about whether this game is in a franchise that did poorly on the PS2. The only thing that matters is that it's an amazing game. It's as if Killzone the first never existed.

This also works the other way, if you look at the success of Alone in the Dark when it was an orignal IP and the shittiness that it is today.

Aren't shooters the best PS3 has.
What it lacks is everything else!

I'll don't have much of an opinion when it comes to Killzone 2 as I don't own a PS3 but heres my two sense.

At the end of the day Killzone is already a big franchise, it has got 2 games under its belt, and all gamers know of it. Why would Sony simply change the name of the franchise of seeming so successful.

The one thing I don't get about this game is how its a "revolution in gaming" (actual quote from Gametrailers user) sure it looks impressive and will probably be fun to play - but theres noting revolutionary about it. Certainly worth 8 / 9 out of 10's but nothing to get worked up about (aka - Halo 3).

how you can customise your player in MP seems interesting but i havent seen anything that is revolutionary.

which i think is deliberate, do what you know but do it well. like gears which wasnt revolutionary but what it did, it did to a high standard.

KZ2 has a major flaw to most FPS it has a slight delay on shooting action when hit the trigger. Anyone that plays FPS know that a delay in the action can mean life or death victory or defeat.

Not really, it just forces a different style of play.

There are different styles of FPS game that reward different sets of skills. KZ2 is clearly aiming more towards the CoD end of the scale where getting the setup right and having the drop on an enemy is more important than raw reflexes.

err. Here goes:
RPG's for a start.
Arcade/puzzle games / PSN Games
Platform games
Strategy games / Simulation
Fighting.
The 360 has a more varied choice of games
Saying that, i play my 360 about once a week whereas i play my PS3 everyday!
The games that PS3 does have are very good though. i'd pick it over 360 anyday.

Isn't Halo Wars an RTS? How can you even compare two games in different genres?

The only Killzone title I've played is the PSP version: Killzone Liberation. It's a great game with awesome weapons and vehicles and it has sold quite well on the PSP too.

Well let me see RPG/Strategy could be solve by the amazing Chronicles of Valkyria.
And Last Guy or Crash Commando for arcade.
No Platform games? Try LBP.
You got me on the simulation one, till they port over flight simulator. (that was a joke)
Well, for fighting games I always go for SFII, it maybe on almost every other consoles. But, I still have fun with it.
Also at least I can play the warriors on the PS3, which unfortunately I can't do that on my 360, due to microsofts lack of patches for old games. So if you really want to find some more in these genres, just skim the PS2 library. Their pretty cheep. (Got Shadow of the Colossus for ten bucks.)

Playing PS2 games? your going backwards.
but yes, the ps2 game catalogue is the best and most varied of any console ever.
So i'll agree with you on that.

Metacritic gave it a 70.

Functional reviews, but hardly "great".

Fanboy?
