I think the series is becoming too weighty.
The first one is my favorite game of all time. The world was mysterious and involving, and had just the right amount of emotion.
Now? "Extraneous" would be the word I'd use to describe how it's become. With every iteration it seems more and more things are needlessly tacked on. Alternate selves, that black-haired girl that somehow formed when Sora committed seppuku...it's all just too much. I can't keep up at all. And not just plot elements either. I mean, did you play Chain of Memories? It's a perfect showcase of how Square changes up combat for no fathomable reason other than because it can. I die a little inside every time I get card broken. Not to mention 358/2 days. The conversations that take place in that game are so. Boring. All. The time. And not that I didn't like the innovation in having Disney and RPGs get along, but does anyone else feel that The Disneyism has kind of worn out its welcome? There's only so much you can do to weave the stories between KH and the various movies before it gets repetitive (though I like what they did with giving Mickey and co. alternate versions to fit in with the general theme. Maybe they should do that with everyone?)
While I didn't think much of it at the time, I feel a certain midichlorian-like line is wholly deserving of a retrospective "Are you kidding me?". Near the end of the second game, Mickey says something along the lines of "The Darkness isn't really bad, it's just...kind of spooky."
Wow.
