Monday, Aug. 2
1:45 p.m. A woman was at home in the 1800 block of McHenry Street in Carrollton Ridge. There was a knock at the door. When she answered, Theodore Corwin, a 30-year-old man whose race has not been listed by police, pushed his way into the house. The woman knew Corwin. Walter Kelly Jr., a 60-year-old Caucasian man, then allegedly entered the house and assaulted Corwin, who ended up lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood as a result of the beating. Kelly was arrested on Aug. 5 and charged with assault and attempted murder. Corwin died at 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 7.
Friday, Aug. 6
10:22 p.m. Jarrod Covel, a 20-year-old African-American man, was seen lying on the ground with his hands in the air in the 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace. A man with a shotgun shot Covel once in the torso and fled. Covel died at an area hospital at 11:01 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 7
12:30 a.m. Martin York Jr., a 55-year-old African-American man, was found leaning against a car in the unit block of Shipley Street. He had been shot in the back of the head and died at a local hospital less than an hour later. Two other people have been murdered this year within a block radius of where York was shot.
5:30 a.m. Christopher Miller, a 24-year-old African-American man, was with a large group of people at a birthday party. It broke up at 4 a.m., and he walked toward his apartment. When he entered his block--the 700 block of Lennox Street in Reservoir Hill--someone came up to him and stabbed him repeatedly. Miller managed to get to his apartment before he collapsed. He was found by a neighbor and died at an area hospital at 6:10 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 8
2:55 p.m. An as yet unidentified man was shot numerous times throughout his body in the middle of the afternoon. The shooting occurred at the intersection of Cliftview and Germania avenues near the Achievement Academy @ Harbor City High. He died at a local hospital at 3:30 p.m.
