Well, the lady does need to be brought up on animal cruelty charges.
That said, there are various arguements against spaying and neutering, among them the way that it can give female cats a sort of saggy "drop belly" that can get in their way (it happened to my cat). I won't get into them in too much detail though.
The thing is with cats is that there are millions and millions of them out there. Giving them away for adoption is not easy, and turning them in to the humane society or whatever is a death wish, they'll probably get a week and then be killed anyway. Letting the cats get to the point where they are old enough to fend for themselves and then dropping them off somewhere is a reasonable compromise compared to the old practice of drowning them in a
sack which I can't stand for.
What's more, I'll be painfully honest: the benefits of having wild cats around greatly outweigh the cons. Largely because if you have a large community of wild cats in your region they are probably finding a ton of vermin to hunt (in addition to going through garbage cans and such). Cats generally go where the vermin are. I've heard cases where in the past people who have gotten tired of wild cats yowling or knocking over trash cans and such have gotten the local dog wardens to round them up. In cases where it has actually worked, the area was eventually overrun with rodents. Basically if you've got enough trash where it was attracting the cats, it's enough trash to attract the mice. When the cats are gone instead of listening to them, you have to deal with the mice living long enough to burrow into walls and such and they are a heck of a lot harder to get rid of.
No, I don't think you understand.
They dump them out of
speeding cars.
The ones that survive are so dazed, they tend to get run over.
And any argument against spaying is pretty silly. Sure, they may get a drop belly, but at least they are not pushing out kittens every few months.
Now, I'm not sure if you've noticed, but having babies
really hurts. It's not fair on them. And it's really not good for their lifespan.
I have a cousin who is a vet. She's pretty adamant about this sort of thing.
Your argument for wild cats, however, really does make a lot of sense.
It's just, you know, kind of a shame they have to come about because people refuse to pay to give their pets the snip.
I know that sounds sort of snobbish, but I have been seriously fucking poor for the better part of my life, and my family has always been able to get it done.
If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet, as they say.
"They" being my cousin.
Constantly.
