The human perspective is the one that we're most familiar with, but its certainly not the only one out there. Its selfish and arrogant. As evident by the 'humans are innately superior to all life'. Self awareness tests are conducted from a human perspective, which renders them meaningless. It would be like a fourth dimensional intelligence plopping your ass down in front of a four dimensional mirror and saying, 'ahh, this silly creature doesn't even recognize itself', when you fail to see a reflection.Jack the Potato said:I'm pretty sure they have tests that determine self-awareness. The mirror test is one I know of. Most animals don't pass it, when even a newborn human baby can. It's not exact, but it's evidence.DRes82 said:How do you know what goes on in a kitten's brain? I don't have a cat at the moment, but the ones I've seen seem pretty expressive. Like that kitten in the video. It was obviously terrified and in pain.
Fact of the matter is, animals aren't intelligent. They aren't people. There is no other perspective to look at this from but the human one, because it's the only perspective with any meaning to us. And animals can absolutely destroy when given the opportunity. There are a number of species that are royally fucking up the environments they inhabit because that's what they do, and they don't care at all because they can't comprehend anything greater than their survival instinct. Humans may destroy the environment and each other, but we also try to fix it when it happens, which is a LOT more than you can say for literally any other animal. We are better than them.
Name a species that is destroying its environment aside from humans. Invasive exotics not included, because they were transplanted by humans.
Also, you show me where humans have corrected any of the bullshit that they've inflicted on the planet. Granted there are groups of people working for it, but they are a very tiny minority and they really don't make a dent.
And again, this intelligence argument...it holds no water. Intelligence is an evolved trait just like claws or teeth or scales. How does that make us 'better'? It only makes us more powerful. I guess that's subjective. Some people consider more power better. I just think it ruins shit.
