Ahh another gem from everybody's favourite CEO

--------------

This is starting to become a bit of a habit. Activision boss Bobby Kotick has decided to flex his corporate biceps once again by claiming that if the games industry wants to move forward it needs to break free of the shackles imposed upon it by console platform holders.

Or in other words, why should punters pay Microsoft for the privilege of playing Activision?s games online?

?We?ve heard that 60 per cent of Microsoft?s subscribers are principally on Live because of Call of Duty,? Kotick told The Financial Times. ?We don?t really participate financially in that income stream. We would really like to be able to provide much more value to those millions of players playing on Live, but it?s not our network.

?We have always been platform agnostic. Consoles do a very good job of supporting the gamer. If we are going to broaden our audiences, we are going to need to have other devices.?

He added that the publisher will ?very aggressively? support efforts from companies such as Dell and HP to increase the connectivity enjoyed between PC and TVs. He?s also previously hinted that he?d like to distance the Guitar Hero brand from consoles.

It?s not the first time Kotick has expressed his irritation at his inability to further monetise the online element of Call of Duty beyond the release of DLC map packs. He told The Wall Street Journal last month that if he could have one wish it would be an online subscription service for Call of Duty.

But the exec?s lust for power reaches beyond simply Call of Duty.

Just over a year ago. Kotick rocked the world of console gaming by stating that Activision would be prepared to drop the PS3 platform if Sony did not drop the price of PS3. A few months later Sony announced the cut-price PS3 Slim.

----------------

Do you think that Microsoft will pay any attention to his ego fueled rants?

I think this was in the news section, actually i'm positive it was :D

Still good that you posted it here, i'd rather it posted twice than not at all so I thank you for the information.

I think Kotick is just abit mad, though a small part of me wonders if he's just like other companies CEOs but he just vocalises what he's thinking. Maybe, just maybe he's the only one with the balls to say yeah, where totally in it just for the money.

That still doesn't mean I like him though, I in fact no longer buy activision products, well until they clean up their act anyway.

What happened to Kotick anyway? Why is he like this? Did he just wake up one day and think "I'm going to become an evil CEO like the ones on TV!". Seriously, why does he act like this? Even EA pretends not to be evil.

probably not because in the end Activision needs the Xbox more than Microsoft really needs activision, because of how many players are on the Xbox as opposed to the PS3, Microsoft really has a deathgrip on the consoles right now and they know it. plus they make a killing off of live.

I'd say it's fairly obvious the activision just wants to get as much money as they can out of call of duty and they can't completely controll the game and thus implement their own version of live while xbox live is what it is, if live became much cheaper or free the Activision would likely start charging for the use of their online servers to "cover costs" likely.

They havne't done it on the PC because they will want to do it universally, and they know that if they implemented it on just the PC that
1) it would get hacked
2) people would stop playing in general
3) TONS of bad press

end of story activision is greedy, go figure Microsoft is greedy to

oops lol didn't see it if it was *Prostrates to avoid mod wrath*

I would think/hope that M$ will simply ignore 'ol bobby and treat him like a mafia don treats a usefull made man. This line of thinking is making me see M$ eventually loose patience with the young upstart and breaking his knees with a baseball bat...but I did watch Goodfellas last night sooooo :D

It depends, because Microsoft already charge for Gold membership it would depend on if they felt they could get away with it, I have no doubt in my mind Microsoft would love to do this so long as they received some of the money Activision racked in.

Corporations always breed a lack of ethics, he seems to be playing right in to my expectations. This guy is such a fucking dickhole, I am an anti-activision gamer mainly because of this guys douchebaggery.

M$ sells it consoles at a loss and has to make up for it through other means, just like Sony.
Xbox live is just one of those revenues.

This will never go away. Activision won't just get a nice gaming platform for free, nomatter how hard they cry.

>implying anyone anywhere genuinely thinks that Kotick had any influence over Sony.

Seriously, you don't knock together a cut price version of a console in a few months because one lunatic CEO is ranting about not having enough money.

Wasnt Kotick going to try and improve his and Activisions public image due to us all hating them for being the big evil publisher?

Great start.

So he's angry because he only filled 5 giant Scrooge McDuck money pits instead of filling 10?

Fuck you Kotick. All your god damn money grubbing will make people see what an ass you are, and they'll stop buying from you and your company.

Plus, I think he's confusing people who play online and people who play online for Call of Duty.
Whats more likely is that 60% of people on xbox live play COD, rather than they pay for online just for Call of Duty.

And thats assuming these statistics are even accurate.

I wouldn't be surprised if when Reach comes out, MS says 60% of people play online just for Reach. Same dumbass logic.

But we all know what was the anticipation and success of Call of Duty MW 2.

Personally I think its plausible that Sony slashed the price, in reality the PS3 needed a title like MW2 under its belt.

Yes, he's completely delusional at this point... thinking that gamers are going to keep playing the pile of shit that is Call of Duty if he attaches a monthly subscription to it is the first sign of his delusion.

I really don't understand what everyone's problem with him is.

He just fricken' said he doesn't think people should pay for the right to play games online!

And yes he wants to add a subscription fee to Call of Duty, to provide more freakin' content to those who want it. Yes, it makes him and his company more money. Though it also gives more back to the people who want to pay for it. I just don't get this rabid hatred of the guy, I really don't. Can someone explain it to me with sources please?

Not to mention call of duty as we know it is effectively over due to IW's demise. Maybe he doesn't realise the million of people who flocked to COD when MW1 came out will simply flock to the next big title be it halo or something new.

15 dollars for 3 new maps.

No new other type of dlc, weapons, perks, etc.

The infinity ward bullshit.

Speaking of, I'm curious how he'll speak up when black ops fails hard.
