I feel sorry for him that he had to cut his vacation with his daughter short just to record a demo for GaGa to hear were in fact it's her beat and rhythm in Al Weird lyric. I listen to the demo and it's good so what the hell Gaga?

Seems like a dick move on his behalf. Why does this musical moral code of his not apply to Youtube and MP3s?
Because recording and producing a song, even a song-parody that uses already set music, takes very long to do, and costs quite a bit of money. He receives no money from the song being on Youtube or for a free mp3. Not only that, but if you read the blog post, you'd see that he delayed release of his album so he could do the Lady Gaga song.

Yes Lady Gaga, you say no to Weird Al. You show him how unique, and artistic your music is, yes, don't let him be degrading and ruin your masterful lyri- XD BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, sorry, couldn't get through that with a straight face.

OT: Lady Gaga is pretentious and obviously lacks higher brain function. Oh well, thought that already so...

Also releasing it anyway was pretty fucking petulant.
Yeah... I don't get that. Why would he release it on Youtube if he didn't put it on his album out of some moral code?
According to his blog it was because:

"However, given the circumstances, I have no problem with allowing people to hear it online, because I also have a personal policy not to completely waste my stinking time."
which just makes him sound like a dick. I think he's so used to people saying yes that he came to believe they would always say yes. I mean, yeah, as an artist that's a royal pain in the arse but I'd have thought that was the kind of crap he's have contingencies for.
He had every right to release the song without Gaga's consent. Instead he decided that he wouldn't and respect her opinion, but he already went through all the trouble to make the song (despite the fact Gaga had plenty of opportunity to say "No" somewhere earlier down the line) so he figures he might as well share it with his fans. I don't see how that makes him a dick.

Just like "You're Pitiful" it's going to end up as a free mp3 download from his website. Weird Al, although needing no permission to parody song, according to the Supreme Court, still asks for permission before adding it to his CD. The "normal royalties cost" (if a royalty was required) goes to charity. So now instead of profits of your song being donated to charity, it is now going to be free. Way to go, Lady Gaga.

And as some people have already mentioned, being made into a Weird Al parody says you've made it into the music industry and you're a big hit. Why would you not allow yourself to be recognized for it?

I'm not a huge Weird Al fan, but I've heard him a couple of times on Comedy Death Ray Radio and he sounds like the nicest guy in the world!

Seriously, this guy is a class act. For someone who's career is based on poking fun at others, he comes across as very sincere and polite.

He'll post the MP3s as well. He's done it in the past - for example, with You're Pitiful [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27re_Pitiful].

He's legally allowed to release them - parody is a long-standing fair use exception to copyright - he just chooses not to sell them unless he gets permission. Normally he doesn't even make them until he gets permission, but in the rare exceptions he's had no problem releasing them for free.
Seems like a dick move on his behalf. Why does this musical moral code of his not apply to Youtube and MP3s?
Because he doesn't make money off of YouTube or free MP3s?

OT: Wow, Gaga's a *****. Not for refusing him, but seriously, "I WANT TO HEAR IT *annoyed face*", that's terrible.

this wouldn't be the first time, James Blunt wouldn't let him publish his "your beautiful" parody a couple years back.

I'm quite suprised in her... she seems to know what's going on (I've seen videos of her before she made it. she CAN sing well.). she knows that pop music is all style, no substance. hence the crazy-ass outfits.

Huh, sucks, seeing as how I don't think anyone really takes Lady Gaga seriously ("this is ART, YOU SHOULDN'T MOCK IT!!!111") and the song was just about how nuts her image is.

shame on her for shutting this down. she knows that her songs aren't deep or serious, this would've helped a lot of people who need it more than her...

Recording and producing a parody does not take a lot of time and money. No more love and time and effort than the original writer spent creating it.

If someone doesn't want their art that they created being used in a way they don't like, he should respect that.

And that mix he put on Youtube is NOT a high standard, expensive mix. I've heard better bedroom recordings.

Great song xD

It's no Hardware Store or, Stuck at the Drive-Thru but still really great. It'll be released eventually, I'm sure.

Also, listening to the lyrics, "I'm really not that crazy I just perform this way", it could be she takes offense to that statement: She is insane after all.

I've never been much for Lady Gaga and the fact that she seems to be considered not just music but a musical sensation and this just adds to my dislike even more so. She should know enough about the musical culture she's in to know that Weird Al is nothing but good taste in satire and that making music isn't exactly cheap, yet she makes him jump through all of those hoops just to say no. I doubt Weird Al fans are exactly a force to be reckoned with but this will probably begin to make her look as bad in the public eye as she already does to me. Got to love the aplomb he takes the whole thing, the song is pretty damn good too.
