I like gaga, if she hadn't got hugely successful you can bet people would love her as a unique little indie artist.

But as she's in the mainstream and popular many people automatically hate her so they can see anti culture and "edgy".

If I have to listen to popmusic, than I like it to be someone with a wicked fashionsense, a healthy amount of selfcriticism and who sings great, writes mostly her own songs.

I can't find criticism about her, just being mainstream. She even handles controverses good: In the Telephone video one of the guards at the beginning states "I told you she didn't have a penis", which is a pretty snarky remark at that "Oooh, GaGa's a crossdresser/was born as a boy" malarkey that certain gossip websites were happy to proclamate.

its all copy/paste, completely uninteresting music and the woman is obviously a whore for attention, no self respecting person dresses in such a way.
I'd disagree with you that no one self respecting dresses like that on the point that the only reason people dress "normally" is because society tells what is normal, and we obey out of fear of being alone. So we trade individuality and the style/comfort we like the most for being included and feeling uncomfortable. Plenty of people wear the style they like when it is allow, such as some of the people at conventions or just being at home and changing into a t-shirt that is so worn you would never take it out of the house. Hell, I like wearing a bathrobe just because it's soft, but I don't run around outside in it. And you can wear strange things just because you like to wear them, such as me and my fedora (which is constantly questioned despite not being THAT odd) or a class ring.

That being said, she's doing her thing for attention given that one of those outfits caused her to pass out.

OP: I really don't mind her music that much on principle. People have different tastes, and I don't have to listen to it if I don't want to. However, I have a roommate who plays it late at night and it was part of the reason I developed insomnia, so I can't say I enjoy it anymore (still like it better than country, which I had to listen to on 4 hour family car trips, mentally scaring me, given that it was before I experienced other genres and I hated it to the point that I thought I hated all music).
I am all for people dressing the way they want, I dont judge, but theres a point where it just goes nuckin futs.
Let's face it though, why is tying something around your neck suddenly make you professional any better? For that matter, why is wearing a jacket even when it's hot out considered to be normal? Why do we wear clothes designed to be stiff, and feel strange when you move in them? Why do we put sliding metal part right near the most sensitive area of our body? And why socks and shoes? These are all just normal office appearances, yet not a lot of them make sense. Why are they designed to be uncomfortable and to offer nothing more than to cover you up? Like I said, it's society. You might think her outfit's outrageous but remember the styles back more than 100 years ago, and tell me they look normal. Thing is, if society had decided to keep getting more outrageous instead of less, normal office wear could have easily been that, so long as it went with everyone else outfit. How outrageous an outfit is is only determined by society, which is why at conventions people cosplay, because there it is accepted by the society inhabiting it. Hell, we only wear clothes because society demands it (I want you to pretend that you didn't grow up wearing clothes and that your first memories were you without them, eliminating the discomfort you feel because of a feeling that something's missing). There really is no bizarre costume, only those that don't fit with society. Once again though, if you're doing this just for the attention, then you're on the same level as someone who decides to not wear clothes not because thats how they like to be but rather because they want to stand out.
No shit, people wear things to stand out, and 90% of those people are attention whores.

Yay music industry guy in a Lady Gaga thread!

Anyone who complains about Lady Gaga lacking talent, being a bad influence or otherwise being anything less than a completely fine and worthy pop singer is demonstratably wrong.

* She can sing better than most pop singers and could easily go toe-to-toe with opera singers on a theatrical stage if she had to
* Yes she dresses outrageously but in pop music who doesn't - the style has a decades-long tradition of outrageous dress sense
* She is a noted philanthropist and lives a generally healthy lifestyle, unlike a lot of other artists in her field
This, but she is still pretty bitchy.
I liked a couple of her songs, but she's not that incredible...

Are you joking, or actually being an asshole?
I see i have struck a chord with you, you know i speak the truth.
Don't get me wrong, i don't want to seem like an asshole, I'm merely stating my personal opinion, (which is what i thought these forums were for, stating an opinion and finding like minded people to interact or debate with) for me metal is the only music that seems to stir my soul, either to the point of heartfelt tears or headbanging the crap out of a song and that's how i judge most things, if it doesn't stir my soul then its shit. Especially that clubbing crap, sounds like a cat trying to throw up a fur ball.

I agree with this guy, due to him having industry experience.

But, if Ms Gaga is so talented, why doesn't she show it and make better music than what she has put out at the moment?

not trying to flame, just throwing in my 2 cents

Look, these kind of prejudices are not about who's worst a influence, it's about who's the most popular.

Because she genuinely enjoys making the type of music that she is making. Everyone has different music taste, and that includes musicians themselves.

She should try make some progressive pop/rock or something, i bet she could do something.
Not everyone likes that prog stuff though. Personally I find prog long-winded, tiresome, and never getting to the freaking point. Presumably, she doesn't like it either, or she probably would be making it.
