She either wears pants or a shirt, never both at once lol. Other than that, the only song I like is Love Game, and for some reason I like it ALOT. Oh, and Cartman's version of pokerface.

I don't hate her.

I just can't stand that goddamned awful racket she creates.

Opera? Once upon a time people had to be able to learn the whole song, words, pitches, note times and lengths and everything and sing it all properly live in front of an audience and be heard all the way to the back of the hall without a microphone, and there were a lot more than eight words in the songs back then too.

Your beloved Lady Gaga does not, by such old-fashioned standards, sing at all. She shouts. She talks. That is all.

Just because something has got a ton of chords in it, or requires great technical skill, doesn't automatically make it better or more worthwhile than something that doesn't have these things. Sometimes simple things actually are more effective because sometimes getting straight to the point is preferable to beating around the bush. Who would've thought?
I readily concur. The best music is simple. The Beatles, for example, thought by many to be the best pop/rock group of all time, and their music is astoundingly simple. Simple chords, simple progressions, simple lyrics. That's what makes them so great.

One of my favourite albums of all time, Streetcleaner by Godflesh, consists almost entirely of really basic songs, but played with feeling. With Lady GaGa, sure, her stuff might not be original, and I don't particularly like it, but you can certainly tell that she means it.
Although I am the Walrus had 16 chords.

So... Not the simplest of songs.

I say the Beatles are the best because they were so experimental!

Like for example "I'm only sleeping", in which they play the guitar backwards. Amazingly weird. And Awesome.

She doesn't wear pants, her entire life is an attempt to be the opposite of what we think she should be in order to fit in. Don't confuse this with a real life philosophy; she's just a dumbass who wants the camera on her at all times.
then how come i've neber seen her in any glossy mags?
glossy mags are there to make women feel bad about themselves, any woman who feels bad about not being lady gaga is a strange one indeed. Besides, when she was first trendy did you see how often she got on TV because of her stupidity? News and Tabloids running stories about her rise to pant-less fame left right and centre.
Actually the only time i've seen her on tv was at some music award where she won something, played a song and every one loved her.

Her music is ok. Im more concerned with her appearance. She's the Harley Quinn of the music industry: kinda hot, but creepy as all hell.

And thus, (once again) controversy propels the publicity that increases popularity.

A formula as old as Show Business itself.

Then you're smart enough not to watch tabloid journalism?
God help me if i'm not.

* She can sing better than most pop singers and could easily go toe-to-toe with opera singers on a theatrical stage if she had to
Since opera singing is quite different from pop singing, you can't actually know that unless you've heard her sing some kind of opera.

its all copy/paste, completely uninteresting music and the woman is obviously a whore for attention, no self respecting person dresses in such a way.

I just think it's awful music,
such genius lyrics "LA LA OH LA LA-A OH LA LA LA LA-A"~ bad romance (pretty much the whole song)wow that took alot of effort to write. it's kinda catchy but gets annoying after the fouth time hearing it, but I do like the "telephone" video just because the P*ssy wagon from KILL BILL is in it.

This thread makes me sad. To me this thread shows incredible sexism, because when guys dress up ostentatiously as many male performers have done for decades as part of show business, nobody complains. But just because a woman is dressing up in a way which is outlandish suddenly in the eyes of so many people she's all sorts of bad things. I'd like to think that my fellow Escapists are not so superficial that they would be prejudiced against a performer purely for their dress sense. The fact that this point keeps coming up from people who should know better is something that I find very disturbing, far more disturbing than some crazy outfit someone chooses to wear.

If you don't like the music, fine. If you don't like what she says, fine. However saying that someone is a bad person because of the way they dress is in the same ballpark as saying that someone is a bad person because of what religion they choose to believe.

I'd disagree with you that no one self respecting dresses like that on the point that the only reason people dress "normally" is because society tells what is normal, and we obey out of fear of being alone. So we trade individuality and the style/comfort we like the most for being included and feeling uncomfortable. Plenty of people wear the style they like when it is allow, such as some of the people at conventions or just being at home and changing into a t-shirt that is so worn you would never take it out of the house. Hell, I like wearing a bathrobe just because it's soft, but I don't run around outside in it. And you can wear strange things just because you like to wear them, such as me and my fedora (which is constantly questioned despite not being THAT odd) or a class ring.

That being said, she's doing her thing for attention given that one of those outfits caused her to pass out.

OP: I really don't mind her music that much on principle. People have different tastes, and I don't have to listen to it if I don't want to. However, I have a roommate who plays it late at night and it was part of the reason I developed insomnia, so I can't say I enjoy it anymore (still like it better than country, which I had to listen to on 4 hour family car trips, mentally scaring me, given that it was before I experienced other genres and I hated it to the point that I thought I hated all music).

Her music (and her hair) is atrocious. Her outfits are also tacky to the point where the body will force itself to prevent its own absorption of vitamin A so the sight of them will no longer haunt one's vision.

Let's face it though, why is tying something around your neck suddenly make you professional any better? For that matter, why is wearing a jacket even when it's hot out considered to be normal? Why do we wear clothes designed to be stiff, and feel strange when you move in them? Why do we put sliding metal part right near the most sensitive area of our body? And why socks and shoes? These are all just normal office appearances, yet not a lot of them make sense. Why are they designed to be uncomfortable and to offer nothing more than to cover you up? Like I said, it's society. You might think her outfit's outrageous but remember the styles back more than 100 years ago, and tell me they look normal. Thing is, if society had decided to keep getting more outrageous instead of less, normal office wear could have easily been that, so long as it went with everyone else outfit. How outrageous an outfit is is only determined by society, which is why at conventions people cosplay, because there it is accepted by the society inhabiting it. Hell, we only wear clothes because society demands it (I want you to pretend that you didn't grow up wearing clothes and that your first memories were you without them, eliminating the discomfort you feel because of a feeling that something's missing). There really is no bizarre costume, only those that don't fit with society. Once again though, if you're doing this just for the attention, then you're on the same level as someone who decides to not wear clothes not because thats how they like to be but rather because they want to stand out.
