Soooo... Lady Gaga wore a dress made out of raw meat to the MTV Awards.
She said it represented the way homosexuals are treated in the US army.
Um, any thoughts?
I see The Escapst Lady Gaga Free Marketing And Promotion Machine has kicked into top gear yet again.

Wow, this girl has The Escapist wrapped around her little finger. All she has to do is get up in the morning and put her shoes on the wrong way around and there'd be a new thread here. If it was any other artist apart from Lady Gaga wearing meat (with the possible exception of Justin Bieber), you guys would have ignored it for sure.

What she's doing is barely even controversial (except to some mumsy animal rights groups who are equally adept at trolling you lot). Yet she's succeeded in raising awareness of an issue that she wants to bring to the spotlight, because she knows that with the eyes of the world on her, bored people will talk about every little thing she does and give it inflated importance. Sure, you might not even care less about the issue, but that's okay, your opinion isn't important in this equation. What's important is that you just started a thread with "homosexuals" and "US Army" in the same sentence, on a public bulletin board, that other people are going to read, that comes up on a Google search, and Lady Gaga made you do that. Not only talented, but a smart, smart woman - absolutely no question.
You've done it again my friend...

Congratulations.

Warning- This post should NOT be read with a sarcastic tone. I genuinely agree with everything you say.

Genuinely love Lay Gaga, all the time. I think it's a good sign for the music industry that someone can be this fucking over the top again. It's not even my kind of music normally, I just dig what she does.

With that said, I never took her as the serious statement type. It doesn't necessarily help that she approached it from her usual bombastic direction. So I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Meat suit, while interesting, and definitely Gaga, may take away from any intended sincerity from what she's trying to communicate.
She is not over the top. She's not even close to the top. The Plasmatics were over the top. GWAR is over the top. Butthole Surfers were (are?) over the top. GG Allin was so horrible he ran the complete topness circuit at least three times.

Lady Gaga just dresses like a twit.
Hope you're not comparing anyone unfavorably to GG Allin. Talk about twits with no business being near a stage.

Allin was terrible in a good deal of the ways human beings can be terrible, but he was a hell of a lot more daring than Lady Gaga.

I love this forum, because everyone here just calls her a stupid *****.

Post this topic on facebook, and the amount of vegetarian uproar will rape your newsfeed in the ass. I just want to know what she means by it representing the gay troops in the army.

Though it is safe to say that she is bat-shit crazy.
I can't blame the vegetarians. If I didn't eat meat, I'd be pointlessly angry, too.
I can't see why, knowing the laws and regulations of media these days, I don't doubt that it wasn't real meat. If anything she would insist on fake? ***** is crazy yes, but damn, no-one wants 20 pounds of rotting cow on you.

No, I meant I'd be in a sour mood if I couldn't eat any meat.
Ha! That's why my vegetarian friend hates me eating bacon; not because he disagrees, he just misses the taste...

This was my thought. Well, after "Uh, what the hell?"
That woman is very intelligent. Her music is simple, but she knows exactly what people want to hear, or how to keep them talking about her.

I think she'd be a dangerous politician...

Some people say they love Lady Gaga, and I don't hate anyone but I don't really like, or respect her at all. O.O This is another example of why I think she's weird, and I'm quite weird myself so that's saying something.

Also there are plenty of other ways to raise attention for a cause like that.

I read in an article recently that said, despite what millions of teenage girls say, Lady Gaga is not original. That she is exactly 50% Madonna and 50% Marilyn Manson. I never really paid much attention to her, but this really does make me agree with this estimate.
I think I've read that article... was it a Dan O Brien article on cracked.com?

Daring how? The guy had literally nothing going for him, and thus nothing to lose. So he was a controversial and as stupid as he could possibly be in the punk scene? Big risk. Stupid punk kids eat that shit up (probably literally at an Allin show). He might've been relevant if he did that crazy shit twenty or thirty years before he did.

I don't see this thing as a pissing contest anyway. Yes, Gaga is over the top for a pop star in the contemporary mainstream music world today. Don't have to be a gross scumfuck addict to be over the top.

He would have been locked up if he had worked twenty of thirty years earlier, rendering him even less relevant. Don't get so mad about your poor taste in pop music.

Not getting mad, friend. Just trying to school you kids on the fact that bringing up Allin as a favorable comparison to something else makes you lose all musical credibility.

Attention-Whore.
Really,I mean its for a good cause but WHY A FUCKING MEAT SUIT?
Why not something simple, like gray ribbons for crack awareness.

I was only comparing their shock value, not their musical ability, but at least Allin didn't have to reinvent himself from some pseudo-Norah Jones act into Madonna v2. Either way it's deciding between an icepick or a railroad spike: neither feels good in your ear.

If she wore a ribbon would there be a thread about that right now?

No. She wore a meat suit to bring awareness for whatever and she got people talking about it. Successful Gaga is successful

Autotune is a fairly commonly used tool with recording, if she just wanted to sound 'good' and not obviously autotuned that's more than possible. "Hard autotune" (or "robot voice") as it's known is a stylistic choice. One I don't really like myself mind you, but it's not really used to cover up bad singing.

By the by that's more for Bak than you Zachary, it sounds like you already know whatsup.
I'm not a fan of pitch correction, myself. I get its uses, but it sort of feels like cheating to me. I've heard Lady Gaga's pre-current career, and she's got talent. I'm not a fan of her as an attention whore OR a lounge singer, but she's got pipes.

But yeah, anyway, using autotune for the robotic voice doesn't even necessarily make you sound good. Example: Ke$ha. She still sounds out of tune a lot of the time, and probably would have been a good candidate for pitch correction in the more traditional sense.

The "awareness" is for Lady Gaga. A subject that is already over-discussed. I mean, I admit, it got me curious, since it's supposed to be about gay awareness and I don't see the connection. But in the end, Gaga is weird for the sake of being weird so people will notice her. And we did. Successful Gaga is still successful.
