Monkey Island 2. It was so lame and unoriginal i nearly had to tear my own face off after how much my friends raved about the game.
What? I love that ending. It's sureal as shit but it gets to you. What's really lame is how Monkey Island 3 connects to it pretending like nothing has happened. Like...wtf?
Yeah, that's really just there so the devs can tick off "mindbuggery" on their to-do list for endings. Playing through all of Monkey 3 should help make it a little more sensible, though.

But come on! A game where you hung on a rope for three days with a wooden, iron-bound chest the size of your torso did not need a sensible ending.

Edit: For me, Conflict: Global Storm. The bad guy is all like: Whoo, I have your sniper buddy! Or do I? Nyah nyah! The end.

This sniper buddy being Foley, the only character you can like out of them all. So we lose all form of coherency, we lose the best character, and we lose most of the satisfaction.

For me, I can't think of ANY games with terrible endings. Maybe I just play good games xD
I did not. I have always had this avatar and name on The Escapist and the Minecraft forums. However I did troll the Yahooo! answers forums using this name. So... maybe that.
Hmm... do you go on the NeoTerra Minecraft server? (meincraft.com)... because I think that's where I know you from.

best = World in Conflict
Worst = no idea I never buy a game if it doesn't look promising.

Fallout 3. I think we can all agree on that. (No DLC)
Exactly what I came in here to post. Broken Steel was an absolute requirement (although once it got in there, it elevated FO3 from a game I had ranked behind Mount&Blade in my '08 GOTY vote to a top-three all-time classic.)

I can't speak to Rei's point since I haven't beaten New Vegas yet, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if a Broken Steel-esque DLC came along later. Although knowing Obsidian's history from the Fallout 1/2 days, they're keen on wrapping up a story. I'll say more when I've seen the ending.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
I hate it when open world games like that prevent you from continuing your game after you beat the main quest.
See, I wasn't even upset just because you couldn't play after the game ended. The ending just came out of no where and gave no closure at all. I had so much I was working on... I had so many active quests and so much I didn't get to do. I didn't even find all of the areas! They could have at least given a warning that this was the ending...

For me its Prototype.

You get on an Aircraft carrier, somehow, you met the big bad General, then somehow he dies, then it turns out Cross double-crosses you ["pun" unintended], then for some reason, he was a big bad creature, you fight him on the top of the carrier, kill him generically, fly a chopper, get blown up, revive yourself, and done. Thats it. No explication or finding out what happened to your sister, nothing. Pretty depressing and lame.

I still thought the gameplay was okay though, so it has merit.

When playing through the Orange Box for the first time, I thought the ending for Half Life 2 was Halo 2ish if you think about it. Think of all the people waiting for next installment back when Episode 1 wasn't out. I would have raged Halo 2 style

Definitely hated Borderlands. Killed that huge monster and you don't even get to go into the vault. They keep talking about the vault and the treasures the whole game and you don't even get to see it in the end. So lame.

Radiata Stories, the human-side ending.

The Silver Dragon, one of two dragons that perpetuate a cycle that wipes out the human race to prevent them from advancing too quickly, becomes empathetic towards humans and prevents the arrival of his counter-part in order to stop the cycle. In order to do so he is forced to sacrifice a girl, Ridley, who would act as a vessel. Thus saving humanity from utter destruction.

No that's not the ending. The ending is that Jack, the main character, throws a hissy fit and kills the Silver Dragon, because of the girl he sacrificed. Who is this girl? Someone Jack loves? Sister? Childhood friend? Nope, a girl he was a knight recruit with, who spends much of her time being very abrasive towards him, that he doesn't even see much of. A completely hateful and bland character.
Does this accomplish anything? Bring her back to life? Save the world? No, she remains dead, the Silver Dragon already saved everyone for you. All you accomplish is killing an ancient and empathetic creature of unimaginable wisdom and power over a girl that nobody likes. Woo.
o_O I have this game but haven't played it yet. I know which side NOT to go through then.

Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 have big twists, yet very anticlimactic endings.
Some of Silent Hill 2's endings were lame.
Mass Effect had a pathetic ending after about only 15 hours. It didn't even end - you hadn't done jack shit. I was seriously expecting at least another 20 hours of story. You know if that game had come from an eastern developer that they would have done it right and made it all one game (two at the most). Instead, we're getting milked for one game released as three + DLC. It was recommended by a friend, and I'm never trusting him again.

On the contrary, Final Fantasy endings never disappoint.
Here we go...

It's possible that I've been on it. I used an old man skin if that helps.

Superman 64.

SPOILER: After going through all that crap you end up back in the real world and it says, "You have successfully saved your friends(sic), but Lex is still here." It just shows Lex there and the game ends. Like seriously WTFuck$$$ Superman could easily kick Lex's ass, who is FIVE FEET FROM HIM!!!!

You battle through what has been lauded as one of the worst games of all time for...this.
IQ dropping plot, dismal graphics, and horrid controls for...this.
It's like the cop slapping you for having your wallet stolen.
I didn't read page 3 before I put the same thing. But I agree, worst ending in the worst game ever.

The real final boss on top the 77 floor Chrysler Building from Parasite Eve. That fight lasted at least a couple of hours killing that *****.
