I'd like to speak French or some other 'romantic' language, because then, I could swear at the teachers at school while sounding nice!

And what about you guys?

Filipino, so that I could understand just what my wife is talking about when she's talking to her mother or grandmother.

Also so I could finally understand why in the world "ba ba ba.", "oh oh, ba ba ba ba ba" (there might need to be more ba's in the 2nd one, I don't remember) is actually a complete conversation. Seriously. HOW does that convey any relevant information to anything!? (unless you're a sheep)

Seriously, why would anyone learn german? It is very hard and does not involve any benefits.

Given that we're all Anglophones, I don't think anyone here is TOO concerned about how useful their languages will be. Of course it's a factor, but... we can afford to learn languages that won't be useful. As an intellectual exercise, I suppose.

Japanese, in fact I'm taking classes. Part of it has to do with my watching so much anime, but the other part of me has always wanted to to learn Japanese. Its just a cool language.

Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Latin, Russian, Arabic, Greek, Fula, Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, Ter Sami (just so it doesn't completely die), Klingon, Quenya.

I have already self taught through lessons on the council of Elrond site (which have been severely minimalised since I learnt unfortunately, they used to be wonderfully in depth and informative) the intricacies of Sindarin. Yes, the only language I ever bothered to learn apart from my native tounge was a fantasy language. I'm just pre-desposed to be counter productive in everything I do.

One, two, three...*counting on* Why do people want to speak Japanese so much? It's one of the most complicated languages on the planet!

Because its cool - and Japan is where lots of our games come from i guess.
Plus people want to understand what actually gets said in heroes i would think

I can speak just about enough German to get by, but only enough Russian to make an arse of myself- but Id love to speak both. I'd also like to speak Japanese, but Im now transcending three alphabets here :S
