I wanna speak Russian so I can infiltrate the Soviets secret underground bunker in Michigan and save the world.... But shhhhh....
Maluku said:Ok, languages I can already speak: German, English
Languages I want to learn: Spanish
Languages I had in school but forgotten: French, Latin, Japanese
Languages I want to be able to speak, but I don't want to put in the effort to learn: Turkish, Japanese, Russian, Mandarin and Kantonese
Seriously, why would anyone learn german? It is very hard and does not involve any benefits.
Take verbs for example: In english there are about 50 irregular verbs, why in german there are about the same regular ones.
Or word-gender: In english there aren't really any. In german you have three, which are very important. They affect the other words in the sentence. I'm not talking about he/she/it, that is there in german too.
The boy eats his cake: Der Junge isst seinen Kuchen.
The girl eats her cake: Das Mädchen isst ihren Kuchen.
The mother eats her cake: Die Mutter isst ihren Kuchen.
The baby eats its cake: Das Baby isst seinen Kuchen.
As you can see, the german word for boy is masculine and describes something masculine.
The german word for mother is feminine and discribes something feminine.
The german word for baby is neutral and discribes something neutral (without gender. The same word is used to translate 'its' and 'his'.)
The germand word for girl however is neutral, but discribes something feminine.
The whole language makes hardly any sense at all.

Really? There are far more useful languages. I truly do not understand what is so god damned fascinating about the Japanese. I am baffled.
