Used to play Vampire: the Masquerade LARPs in my early adulthood, those were the days when V:tM was the big thing and signficantly helped me in my social interactions. Groups were easy to find, some were advertised on bulletin boards, but you'd usually find the same people everywhere you go.

Ironically, LARPing made me stop being a nerd. How? I saw how some of them were basement-dwelling, no-getting-laid, red bull-chugging, WoW-obsessing, fugly wankers, I looked myself in the mirror and said "that will never be me". Took me years of self-work, but now random girls tuck their numbers inside my jeans' pockets.

But even today, with my nerd past behind me, I'd still LARP in a good Camarilla-based Vampire game because, with mature people who understand the politics behind the game, it's still shitloads of fun.

I LOVE LARPing.. it's my biggest passion... I like World of darkness A LOT...Vampire: the Masquerade is my life basically.. (vampires for the win! NO not you Edward, take you sparkles somewhere else!! )... I personally ROCK the charcter Angelica Church who is a quite messed up Malkavian <3

The thing that suck about LARPing is that 99% are guys! (and I'm a girl +____+).. I don't know how it is in other countries (I am from Denmark myself), but it seems to me that people think it is "un-girly" to LARP, which makes me EXTREMELY sad...

Anyway... Keep up LARPing because it is AWESOME!

I don't really LARP, but I do get together every now and then with old friends and duel with a stunningly large variety of foam weapons. But honestly I'm currently working on a chainmail hauberk and there is a pretty big larping community here. Hell theres a major weeklong gathering about 2 hours away during the summer that features battles with several hundred people. I think it would be worth giving that a shot just for fun.

I don't LARP but I cosplay and I see the appeal of LARPing and at some point in my life I plan to get a LARPing group together, siege a white castle and demand to speak to the king. then go to burger king ask why the king is not at the castle, then hit McDonalds and demand that the Jester come out to entertain the king.
I would love to do that but I'm pretty sure that I would get a ticket for disturbing the peace.

I'd love to LARP, but I live in the country in Australia so it's pretty hard to find. Even then, disability kinda limits my options, could be a pretty decent mage though. That and nobody I've never met in Australia plays anything like DnD and the like, the only thing being available is 40k, and that's bloody expensive.

Not really on topic, but I do want to try it.
Ha! I was about to say something similar. We Aussie nerds should unite to overthrow the bogans.
YES! We must liberate this country and then rename it to THE ESCAPIST

Sorry back on topic: I've only ever LARPed when I was a wee boy playing "guns" with other little kids, or when we were playing Aliens or something, although it has been stated before. In Australia it is pretty hard to find other nerds people with the same similar gaming interests in a relatively close area. Although it is intriguing, it would look real bad if a bunch of football jocks walked by as you were about to cast your "shadow of disintegration." Well good luck to anyone with the audacity to try something like that.

Lucky you, here in Montreal the V:tM LARPing scene is pretty much dead for the last few years.

I enjoy any opportunity to roleplay, whether through text, at the table, or in costume. That being said, however, I haven't LARPed in quite a number of years, which, though busy, has less to do with my schedule and more to do with the lack of actual roleplay in the last so many events I attended or was interested in attending. Most Live-Action groups that I have encountered seem far more interested in hitting each other with foam weapons than any in-character dialogue or narrative. As such, I've focused my energies elsewhere. Of course, I find that as time goes on, it just seems that fewer and fewer people I encounter are interested in character and narrative, and far more interested in combat and the rewards which follow such. I'm not suggesting that this is true across the board, mind you, simply that such has been my experience over than the last decade or so, be it through text-based, tabletop, and/or live-action RPGs.

Used to LARP a little in my early teens.

Nowadays im more into airsoft, but since the unit im in are for the most part heavy Warhammer 40.000 nerds we've pretty much insured that our unit mimics the Imperial Guard as much as possible and this even includes a bit of pseudo-LARP-ing during play.

Kind of awesome to go up against dead-serious milsimmers who use planned tactics while we basically charge forwards firing on full auto yelling: "FOR THE EMPEROR!!!" and actually beating them with it. XD

Aww.. I'm sorry D:
I just moved to America (Oregon) and I just can't finde any good V:tM groups, but at home in Europe V:tM is REALLY popular! it is going to be nice when I move home so I can play some proper vampire role playing!

I was into something like that a few years back. I think the system used was Amtgard. Very similar foam swords, shields, ect. It was okay, but the people fell to infighting and backstabbing. The whole mess fell apart after a few years. I bailed before the real bad stuff hit, and have been a bit leery about visiting another one since. Lost a few friends on that one. Was a shame, because I legitimately had fun with it while it rolled along.

Have also been in a few Mind's Eye Theater groups as well. Had a blast with those, but the people involved have all moved away. We keep in contact, but it doesn't look as if we'll be LARPing anytime soon.

It sounds fun and I would probably invest time and money if it but I don't have any friends that do it but if I knew someone who did I'd try it out.

Does the fighting hurt much? It doesn't sound like foam hurts but I need something to toughen me up, I'm a really sensitized person.
1)My first LARP I only knew my former physics teacher, and he didn't come on the first day. However the people at every LARP I have gone to have been some of the nicest people. We are a small community, and we always love new faces.

2)All the LARPs I have done use a lightest touch system. Which means that you are not supposed to swing hard, and most of the time it isn't bad. Sometimes in cold weather during a really intense fight people will swing a bit harder. Byound that being outside and active really helps toughen you up. (I've learened I can sprint fairly quickly in 30pound armor)

I highly recomend looking up in google to see if any LARPs are near you.
Keep in mind, that whole "lighest touch" thing does NOT apply to all larps. Belegarth is absolutely full contact. you can't hit people in the head(except with ranged weapons), but other than that anything goes.

I fight in Belegarth. It is the fighting with much less the role playing. I use a longsword. I sometimes use a shield with it. I am also an decent archer.
I have never been a LARPer and I don't even want to be, but this combat LARPing intrigues me. Are these real fights? Of course not with real swords, but are they acted or a real match?

They are real fights. As I am typing this I have a hotpack on my shoulder from being bull-rushed and knocked on my backside as I got smacked in the face by a foam sword.

Just to make sure, what degree of "real" are we talking about? Is it outside the rules if I elbow someone in his teeth? (Sorry, might be a little bad english there)

Mind if I ask where abouts you are? I grew up in Far North Queensland which is pretty empty, but I was lucky, nerdiness was quite prolific in my year/grade throughout highschool.

I don't/haven't LARP'd but I was going to with my old room mate. But for one reason or another each week we were busy. It's a little sad actually.

But yeah I would give it a go. I think I'd be a little put off by the Role Play, though the combat appeals to me.

Kinda funny how two people mentioned vampire LARPs. I have never even seen a vampire in any of the LARPs that I play in.(from what I can tell their are vampires in two of them but they are very rare, and if you see one you are A) very evil, and powerful, or B)about to get rofl stomped.)
