I love Fallout 1 and 3 but haven't gotten a chance to play 2, but I have heard it is hard. I think Fallout 3 is a good game, but not keeping to Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout 3 is also good for the PC and I am not going to go near a 360 or PS3 when is is available on the PC.

Played it, overall an ok game but with some MASSIVE problems such as horrible dialogue scripting, crappy nonsensical main plot, extreme focus on run and gun gameplay with other gameplay options handicapped and often non-existent (IE Diplomacy, stealth, ect), bullet proof children, ect ect ect.

I'm sure that's a good game but it's not my type of game. Thanks for suggesting it though

OMG if you loved Fallout 1 you HAVE to play Fallout 2, only be sure to get the unofficial patch for it first

Also, you simply MUST try Arcanum Of Steamworks and Magick (also with the unofficial patch) because it's like a fantasy steam punk Fallout with more choices for your main character. To quote one reviewer "It's like curling up next to a fire with a well written graphical novel, only you control the character in the novel, and you control how the story unfolds, as well as how it ends."

Any game by Valve is worth buying on the PC and then on the X-Box 360 to get all the achievements.

Dawn of War 1? Company of Heroes? Hearts of Iron? Europa Universallis? Dawn of War 2? The Total War franchise?(yes it has RTS gameplay in it.)Empire Earth?Rise of Nations? Age of Mythology?

Most of those games are old games, many released before Warcraft 3 and none of the good ones released since 2009 began.

Dawn of War 2 hardly even counts as an RTS it's so shallow and dumbed down and it definitely isn't worth buying since it relies primarily on a shrinking multi-player gamer base. I definitely don't have any use for a hollowed out shell of an RTS with all of the RTS elements removed, and that's why the case of DoW2 is now somewhere in the floor behind me, knocked off my shelf and left to collect dust because it's not even worth picking up off of the floor. With fewer and fewer people playing online that game is dying anyway, and a well deserved death if Relic's best effort to save it is to release crappy items for the dull and poorly made Campaign which no one even plays.

Wow, Dawn of War 2 was a good game to play, I liked the squad system and the RPG elements, and just because it wasn't exactly like every other RTS, doesn't mean it is bad. The game was interesting and wasn't like the build up and then throw all troops into a big cluster fuck method some RTS games use. It was interesting with the tactics and the single player was good except for its lack in diversity ( only having 1 campaign).

The game was interesting and wasn't like the build up and then throw all troops into a big cluster fuck method some RTS games use. It was interesting with the tactics and the single player was good except for its lack in diversity ( only having 1 campaign).

Hey what can I say, some people liked it a lot, most people liked it a little, and few people like it enough to stay around and keep the game from dying. It hardly even counts as an RTS game at all anymore and they could easily put it on XBox 360 or the Wii, but some people like it better that way.

I'm glad you get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I just noticed however that you said Dawn of War 2 WAS a good game to play... Using past tense like that leaves me to wonder, are you not still playing it?

You want to know what's worth getting on the PC for the next year? Here's a simple hint. Go get Steam. Go get Impulse. Peruse their back-catalogs. Honestly, most "worth while" titles will be released as digital downloads (along side of their corporeal counterparts) on either/both Steam and Impulse.

Yeah I am loving Cryostasis, though I did end up stopping playing it just due to greater interest in other games. One of my favorite games (at the moment) is World in Conflict. Easily the best RTS I have ever played.

Alright, alright, now that you explain it better methinks I'm getting the gist of your argument, which isn't so much 'PC games suck' so much as 'New games suck'.

I don't agree with you obviously, since I really enjoy Dawn of War 2 and Empire:TW and I believe that's more a matter of taste rather than overall quality, but I will give you that the general quality of many new games has gone down in recent years. But it's still only a matter of opinion, I for example absolutely love Napoleonic era history and combat so for a buff of that general time-period and weaponry Empire:TW despite its bugs is like strategy nirvana. Naval combat also blows my mind, and the visual quality is unparalleled in any other game today. Meanwhile DOW2 fills a fun 'tactical' niche for me. Where Empire is grand scale global conflict, DOW2 is down to earth small squad combat that I feel suits the setting extremely well.

I'll give you this though; other than those two games I haven't really bought anything 'new' in ages. An expansion of Neverwinter Nights 2 and a DS game are the only other games I've bought in months that were made recently.

Never played Demigod as it's not really my sort of multiplayer experience, and the last fps I bought was Left 4 Dead when it came out since I'm not a huge fan of fps either. So I can't comment on those, Demigod or recent fps games.

All that said however I'm patient. Sure there aren't that many big-brand release in recent memory, but I fill my time between with older games and indie titles. Dwarf Fortress for example has consumed hours and hours and hours of my time. I've also been going over the older games library and enjoying plenty of those. I mean PC gaming has been around 20 years now, the back library of games is so vast I doubt I'll ever play all the 'greats'. But damn, I'll try.

Methinks you're still being harsh though. There are a ton of amazing titles out there and many of the games you call terrible really aren't, and for many, are amazing games. Some of the best they've ever played. I've got a buddy who has an ongoing love affair with Demigod which frankly disturbs me, but hey, if he were to try and pry Baldur's Gate away from me I'd be at his throat in seconds, so I think I can understand.

It tried to be a regular cliche, RTS and it just wasn't that type of game. The game is at its best in its innovative single player and Co-op. I did all of the missions and side missions and that was all. The multilayer was returning or trying to return to a more traditional RTS style and it did not work. The awesome squad system was pointless in the multilayer because it was to fast and the point is to build a ton of troops, and I can't manage 50 squads, their guns, how they move, and their cover while fighting an enemy.

And there's a lot of really neat free games out there as well. City of heroes is a wonderful play.

I'll check out Godfather 2 even though I've heard a lot of bad things about it. I heard a lot of bad things about Godfather and I loved it so who knows?

I have to go spend $600 bucks to get a PS3 to play it on, then another $60 bucks for infamous, then if I want to play it online I have to spend another $120+ a year, and half the companies that make games are going to try to gip me by charging $30+ bucks worth of DLC for the games I shell out $60+ a pop for already? The only way you could justify writing 120+ a year for internet is if you are referring to the connection, not the PSN service. But don't even try to say that you wouldn't have internet otherwise.

Moral? Nobody is screwing anybody. All of that shit you mentioned are luxuries. So get used to it, 'cuz this is how the world works.

As for the original topic, I would have to say that since Portal, no other game seems worth investing time in....

Dwarf Fortress.

What's another one I've been playing alot of recently? Mount & Blade. So damn good and I only payed 15$ for it. Playing right now with a mod that adds gunpowder units as well as a whole slew of other tweaks to the base gameplay and it's like a whole new experience. Charging through rifle smoke to break the marching infantry lines is an experience you've gotta play yourself to know just how damn fun it is.

Yes i completely agree with Mount and Blade if you manage to find it at retail or through Steam i say get it (it's about 20 bucks or so either way). If you ever at all played Sid Meier's Pirates it has a somewhat similar feel to that but with a more medieval setting. If this is your cup of tea you could easily sink some major time into it, also the pc spec's for it are really low so you don't need a super gaming rig in order to play it.
