Ninja'd.
I hated Brock not just because of this, but I also never seemed to do enough grinding. I just wanted to move on, not level my pokemon to 20 to take him down! (Higher for fire types)

I would say brock in Special Yellow Pikachu Edition way back in the 90's because it was so hard getting pass him with the basic few pokemon you caught with pikachu.
Yea I remember that, I used to have to train up a crappy mankey from from the area just before Pewter just so I could low kick him to death.

Whitney *Shutters* So many rollouts.
Also Brock in Pokemon Yellow, because the first gym leader just has to be the one type pikachu has no effect on.

I realized recently that whenever we see a miltank, even what that's not whitney's, we all think the same thing....

"NOOOOOO! NOT ROLLOUT!"

Clair was probably the toughest challenge I faced with Gym Leaders in SoulSilver but Karen of the Elite Four is a nightmare for me right now.

Whitney was annoying, but I'd have to say Brock. I fucking loved Charmander, which made beating him a *****. And being a little kid at the time, I never thought to simply capture a bug type to beat him, instead grinding for hours to beat him through sheer force. This helped me later due to the high level early on, but damn if he didn't piss me off.
This. DEATH BEFORE NOT CHOOSING CHARMANDER

He's actually quite easy if you get a Mankey or Caterpie (and evolve it) before you fight him. Mankey's low-kick did a good number on his Onix. I don't know if you can catch Mankey in games that early outside of Yellow... but you might be able to. But yeah... if you think Charmander vs. Brock was hard... try Pikachu vs. Brock... damn near impossible.

OT: Worst gym leader ever was probably... Jasmine (the Steel gym in Jhoto). I only say that because she has two steel pokemon and neither one of them are that impressive. She could have at least had Skarmory or something.

Also, I've seen a post or two for Clair. I like her because she's actually challenging. It seems like all the gyms in SoulSilver require me to walk in and say I'm a trainer to get the badge. Against Clair, if feels like actual work to get the damn badge.

I awlays hated Bugsy, mainly cuase his scyther is fast as hell and it just quick attacks or U turns me to death. I'm still trying to raise a team of three flying types and my cyndaquil to beat his scyther. (yeah, i just restarted my game cuase i was bored)

OTher then him... probably morty because his gangar does the same thing to me as Bugsy's scyther. THough, it helps when you have a normal type like rattatta who knows bite and crunch. I just have to worry about that damn sucker punch.

Jasmine and her Steelix. (Gen IV)

-Because I'm one of the 5 people on this planet that didn't pick Cyndaquil as their starter.
-Because my highest level pokemon was lv26.
-Because capturing a Vulpix didn't cross my mind.

Turns out; When you grind enough Tentacool, your Slowpoke might become fast and tough enough to survive an Iron Tail and squeeze in a Surf before getting killed.

Jasmine would be hard because when I started playing silver and gold I didn't know what steelix was weak against.

Morty was a bastard the first time I faced him in SS. I'd kill his Gastly no problem, but then he would send out Gengar. 6 Shadow Balls, 6 OHKO's, my entire team dead. I was so pissed.

Then I went to the East and caught Tauros. And Pursuit made sure that was the end of that.

Overall, I'd have to go with Clair, since she comes off like a spoiled brat and made me burn a move for Whirlpool just to get the freaking badge. Slag off. I won it, just give it.

Clair and Wattson. Clair because the only place to get Ice types is in a cave where they are 20 levels below what you need, and Wattson because I just can't handle electric early in the game very well, especially his Magnaton.

I hated Whitney. Miltank with it's Rollout...*shivers*. And I usually chose Fire, and never really trained any others, so Brock was always tough.
