Least Favourite Protagonist

I'm not even going to talk about protagonists from FPSes since they're really just floating cameras with guns at best. My least favorite protagonists from other games would definitely be Vaan from FF XII, most characters from any fighting game, and Carth Onasi.

While Carth isn't technically the protagonist, since that's your created character, he's the first person who joins your party and he never stops whining. "I'll never trust another person, but I want to trust you, but who you used to be makes it hard to trust you". Thanks, Carth, we get it, now shut up.

Now...Squall from FF8. HE is an emo twat that should die in a Fire (and then a Fira, a Firaga, and then FIAGRA!, the logical conclusion to fire and viagra!) Virtually everything he says is garbage (including when he doesn't speak at all). This may be because the characters surrounding him are crap too, but we won't forgive him for that! His weapon sucks, his job sucks, his reactions to ANYTHING sucks, and I can't think of any reason for why Square thought THIS was a good character!

I think you may have become my new least favorite person ever. Unless you are trolling, in which case kudos, you did a good job.

Vaan made me want to return the game. I didn't think it was possible, but Squenix made a character even more girly than Titus. At least he was an athelte, Vaan was just some street urchin they found in a sewer.

Either Vaan for the same reasons or Marcus Fenix from GoW

He could easily be replaced with... Say, a Labrador retriever?

I myself just didn't like the way he would leap up and viciously murder dinosaurs like a psycho. Even the small compies and herbivores of which posed no threat you were still able to kill so really I think any people against cruelty to animals would have issue with Turok.

Also for the record I love Halo and while I don't despise him I still prefer the Arbiter to the Masterchief in terms of protagonist.

Raiden? No, no no. He was bad, but certainly not the least likeable protagonist in MGS2.

That award has to go to Rose. Damn, I hated that woman and all of her unnecessarily drawn out conversations about useless drivel. I don't care, Raiden doesn't care, shut up and let us save the game.

I don't see the appeal of Master Chief and Gordon Freeman. Maybe it's because I'm not keen on the games either, I don't get why people rave about them so much. And the less I say about J-RPG's the better.

Well given the way he did things (removing top halves from bottom halves, beating people to a pulp and consuming them, etc) it would be very odd for him to be a "nice guy."

After NSMBW, Mario is quickly becoming a top candidate for this. I think he needs a SERIOUS personality upgrade. I'm tired of him going through the same routine of blindly rescuing Princess Toadstool (when exactly did she become "Peach?") and speaking only in retarded phrases and grunts. Even in the dialog heavy RPGs he hardly says anything, mainly just opening his mouth to give a recap of what's going on or if you need to make a decision. This was more acceptable back in the 8 and 16-bit days, but nowadays it's just growing old. At this point it feels like a robot or a blob could be put in a plumbers outfit and it wouldn't make a difference.

Freeman. He is the biggest non-character ever. Everyone acts like he is the greatest character ever, because he is a nerdy non-character that they can project themselves onto. You never receive any in game evidence that he is anything more than a floating hand.

I have to agree with the vote for Freeman. The game never really gave me a reason to care about him, and him being mute just didn't really work for me.
