This, but not quite so strongly. Also, I laughed when Aeris got turned into Masamune-kebabs.

Pains me to snippety this, but snipped it has been!
Thank you To you I give my last cookie. Hope you like raisin & oatmeal...

I know I shouldn't ask this, as it's tantamount to lying face-down on the grill and letting the gas flow, but why all the Tidus hate people? Sure, the voice-acting is a touch(!!) whiny/iritating at times, but the character does show blooming amazing levels of maturity and growth/improvement by the end of the game.

Hahahahhaha! YES, I was sad though that cloud's only outlets for sexual frustrations were an underage thief, the needy-dumb chick, and a cat with a fire-ball tail.

Please excuse me going off-topic.

Personally I loved FFX. I lack the eyes, hair, skin and overall genetic makeup of a Japanese person, being not Japanese.

I found the story amusing and reasonably good, if a little "My god we jumbled all the pages what goes where?!". Yes, it was your typical "After ten years the evil has returned, go kill it" and most of the plot twists were visible from about an hour before, but it's a story skeleton that works.

Tidus I couldn't give a rat's hairy buttocks about, and I mostly ignored him and taught Yuna how to summon giant scary dogs/dragons/ponies/bugs that ate every living thing. And taught Auron how to flay shit with his giant bloody sword. Granted, I used Tidus as the third member of the party, but that's 'cause he had a sword. And sadly, as with most RPGs, sword trumps all other melee, staff trumps all other magic - unless you work at it.

Surprisingly, the sphere grid didn't bother me much. It was something new, I'd not seen it before; it was nice 'cause I could actually see what I was aiming at. Whether it was actually so or not, it felt more hands-on to me than "here are your new stats, congratulations you're a level bigger." I know most people didn't like the sphere grid, but hey. I did.

I played the game for hours, spending ages earning the celestial weapons. What can I say, I enjoy collecting stuff.

I did find the game fun. Your personal opinion is your own, and my opinion is mine. If you're going to sit here and tell us in detail about how our opinion is wrong, then I think you can imagine what I'm going to tell you to do with your details.

Consider my love of the game justified. And I do believe that this is an acceptable answer.

I've already mentioned that I dun like Vaan... But special mention must be made of any twit that makes all of the stupid, irresponsible choices that they should really no better than to go for.
Great post, actually. That's all I wanted to hear :)

For the record I liked all the things you liked about the game too, but my overall opinion was tainted by my personal involvement in the story. Auron, Kimahri, and Lulu were very good characters - but the story wasn't about them. It was about Tidus falling in love with Yuna and saving the world from Seymour Guado with his friend Wakka. I feel dirty just typing 'Wakka'.

But yeah the game was beautiful, the summoning was awesome, and I enjoyed the sphere grid thing too. But that was the point that I, and many other FF fans, realized that the story was no longer the best part about the series. It was no longer about interesting character development and complex relationships with villains who had interesting motivations. It was about pretty colors and mini-games.

Ohji Kamogawa, of <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.148564>Little My Maid. Fucker had plenty of opportunity to annoy me, and I still hold "Silent Siren" against him.

No one else, really. I don't tend to notice those sorts of protagonists, and I'm not especially versed in recent games, anyway.

Depends. Do you include this guy?

You're, like, the tenth person to say you hate him. In this thread alone. Save your shields for something controversial, yeesh.

Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) in Mission Impossible 3. He just seems like one of those people you would just automatically hate for no reason.
Game related though would have to be any character in a JRPG, especially Tales of Vesperyia (however you spell it). Can't remember the guys name, but who the hell talks to fish?!

Niko Bellic. He murders 40 people then talks about how evil it was and how he wants to get out of it. Then goes off to murder 40 more.

And another vote for Tidus from FFX, he killed my favourite series.
Seriously? For one, I loved pretty much everything about FFX. But even more important, killed the series? You're saying that one character in one of the completely separate and unrelated entries in the long-running Final Fantasy franchise killed the entire series?
Well you see, Tidus started a bad trend in the FF series. Vaan is pretty much Tidus light, and FFX is the only FF game to have a sequel made. If FFXIII doesn't include a Tidus-esque character, I'll eat my hat. And it isn't just FF, Tidus started a trend in JRPGs of having Tidus-esque characters as protagonists.

And for off-topic, I'd really love to see you justify your love for FFX. The only acceptable answer is "I'm Japanese and nothing I do makes sense to the rest of the world anyway".
I just find it ironic that everyone complains about the stereotypical angsty JRPG character, then when they finally get the opposite of their complaints they hate him. Come on people, show some consistency.

And for your information, FFX happens to be one of the more popular Final Fantasy games, at least in America. And it wasn't until I played it just a few months ago that I realized why.

Final Fantasy X tells a much more personal story than most of the other games in the series. It achieves the epicness expected from Final Fantasy, but it is not the focus: rather, the story is all about the characters, their interactions with each other, their feelings toward each other as affected by their loyalties and their past. It was all about that, a summoner and her guardians. This made the game quite different from most I've played, and made for an incredibly emotional story with deep characters and dynamic relationships.

Also, the battle system is my personal favorite of the FF games I've played (I like the true turn-based rather than the time-based system, and they did a great job of assigning each character a specific role in battle). The soundtrack was not FFVII or FFVI status, but was really good (To Zanarkand is the most beautiful piano song ever). The optional sidequests at the end were actually fun, and there was plenty to do.

Overall, I just loved the story. The relationships and characters were much more pronounced than in most games I've ever played, and it created a deep and personal story that I really enjoyed. I would consider my opinion justified, and it's definitely more thought-out than the alleged "only acceptable answer."
