Least Favourite Protagonist

It's kinda funny how most of these responses are from the Final Fantasy games.

I never played 10 so I can't say Tidus, but I played 12. Vaan... ugh, why?

Alot of people are saying Squall, but I disagree. I actually liked him by the end of the game.

He is nothing but an Indian with a Mohawk.
He could easily be replaced with... Say, a Labrador retriever?

I myself just didn't like the way he would leap up and viciously murder dinosaurs like a psycho. Even the small compies and herbivores of which posed no threat you were still able to kill so really I think any people against cruelty to animals would have issue with Turok.

Also for the record I love Halo and while I don't despise him I still prefer the Arbiter to the Masterchief in terms of protagonist.

I don't think that anyone would miss the fact that you like halo (or maby just elites) by looking at your avatar. And yea the Master Chief shouln't realy get so much hate. I think that everyone should hate the annoying fans who elivated the game higher than it should have gone and leave the game (and the normal fans) alone (Please?).

OT: Mercer was unbareable to play as seeing as their was less personality than a brick.

Gordon Freeman, yea....I went there. One of the most uncompelling and dull characters I have ever had the misfortune of playing. He's not cool, he's not a good protagonist, and just a floating camera that shoots a wields a crowbar. No more interesting than the majority of FPS heroes.

I agree as well. Although an ACTUAL floating camera that manages to wield a crobar, (and the other weapons Freeman wields) would be up there with the BEST of heroes.
I mean seriously...thats talent.

See, this one I wholly sympathize with, even whilst disagreeing. Vaan got irritating at times, but he's much more human than most JRPG characters.

I am wholly taken aback by the lack of mention of Squall, the character with whom most of Final Fantasy XIII concerns itself. I greatly dislike this figure, and bemoan what I perceive to have been a negative societal influence caused by him, vis-a-vis the multitude of younger groups dressing and behaving in a manner that I find objectionable.

Now, who wants to know MY least favorite protagonist? It would have to be Jericho Cross.

Freeman. He is the biggest non-character ever. Everyone acts like he is the greatest character ever, because he is a nerdy non-character that they can project themselves onto. You never receive any in game evidence that he is anything more than a floating hand.

The modern day Sonic the Hedgehog is incredibly obnoxious. With that smug look on his face and that awful characterization. It's really bad when your own character becomes more like the characters that are ripping you off back in the 90's.

And Master Chief. Master Chief is that hollow shell of nothing. And unlike other good-type of hollow shells of nothing (For all those smug guys sitting on their couch smiling while writing articles of how they hate *Insert popular stuff here*, Gordon Freeman IS suppose to be personality-free, so we can take the role and immerse ourselves into the game), Master Chief is stated to have a personality of some sort(I know, I'm suprised too), but it's so badly characterized that it becomes more of a enormous road block than a bridge over a large gap.

Lara Croft is also kinda lame. Then again, do we really care about Tomb Raider anymore?

Also, the women from Dead or Alive. Seriously, what up with their face? It looks like if a baby and a blowup doll got mixed with nuclear waste and somehow mutated into a severed, parasitic head, that manage to found some woman's decapitated body and formed a bond with it, becoming this abomination that has a sexy body and a mutant baby face that instantly sends shivers down your spine, like it's staring at your soul. Also, that body also formed a parasitic bond with two alien blobfishes that came from a planet with completely different laws of physics.


P.S. Anyone who thinks Raiden is bad are obviously brain-damaged. Why? Because they don't seem to notice Rosemary, the actual worst character of MGS2.

Kratos, from God of War. I mean, the poor guy's been through a lot, so I can kind of understand why he's a complete douchebag, but he's just an absolute jerk all time, for no reason at all. The story was pretty good, but I just couldn't get connected to Kratos.

And I have to say, I don't get the Tidus hate (yes, it's actually spelled with a d, guys). People complain about stereotypical emo JRPG protagonists, and once a cheerful one comes along we all hate him? And since when did a character having problems from being mistreated by his father as a child become an invalid character trait?

I haven't even played Alone in The Dark (the shitty 2008 release) and I can still pretty much say Edward Carnby. He's like the worst written character ever. "I don't have ur stone, and fuck you anyway!!!" ARGH!

And yes, Tidus yet again. "Cheerful" doesn't mean "good" whereas characters are concerned.
