Gordon Freeman, yea....I went there. One of the most uncompelling and dull characters I have ever had the misfortune of playing. He's not cool, he's not a good protagonist, and just a floating camera that shoots a wields a crowbar. No more interesting than the majority of FPS heroes.

But he's a nerd that kicks ass - surely you would want to be him?

As people above have said, many of the skinny underdressed androgynous girls claiming to be men (or boys, as such storylines generally take logical ages and cut them down by 2/3rds-1/2 then run with it) of JRPGs. Pointing a specific finger at some of the Final Fantasy protagonists such as the above mentioned.

Now...Squall from FF8. HE is an emo twat that should die in a Fire (and then a Fira, a Firaga, and then FIAGRA!, the logical conclusion to fire and viagra!) Virtually everything he says is garbage (including when he doesn't speak at all). This may be because the characters surrounding him are crap too, but we won't forgive him for that! His weapon sucks, his job sucks, his reactions to ANYTHING sucks, and I can't think of any reason for why Square thought THIS was a good character!

I think you may have become my new least favorite person ever. Unless you are trolling, in which case kudos, you did a good job.

If thou hast problems with me speaking of my least favorite protagonist in a thread built for such things, then I suggest you find yourself elsewhere. For I was on topic, as the evidence bears clearly.

While I don't judge you for posting negative comments about a character on this particular post, I have to question your choice of targets. How one can throw hate at Squall & Co. when there are travesties like Vaan running around is beyond me. However, the manner of your reply was unique enough to cause me to withdraw my "least favorite person" comment. Good work!

The one problem I have with this argument is that Gordon Freeman is not supposed to be a developed character. He's meant to be the vessel through which you experience the story, he's more you than he is a separate entity.

I also don't like Dante much either. He was great when I was like 12, but I've matured a bit since then. I expect a bit more from a protagonist nowadays.

I agreed with you apart from you said his weapon sucks. Its a gun and a sword, Perfect weapon

I like the FF protaganists even though it seems everyone else hates them.
I hate Vaan though, he shows no emotion, is useless and basically sums up the whole abomination of a Final Fantasy game. Square-enix seemed to have peaked at KH2-FFX
