This is free to be taken as fanboyism, but when something is described as deep and meaningful, but the person who developed it is more concerned about how much he's getting paid than its cultural impact, it sorta ruins it. Like, say, if George Lucas had compromised his third movie by just shoehorning in an entire race that made absolutely no sense at all, but was good for merchandising, and....what? I find that more acceptable. It's the companies that should be doing the competing/ fighting/ (wuteva), not really the consumers (Not to this extent at least)

And I didn't say craziness, I said that it really seems like it would ruin it if the guy was more concerned with getting paid than with getting his story out.

So its a bad game because of that? I don't see how that affect the game itself.

Well I'm a 360 owner myself, but not at all a fanboy (The only reason I don't own a PS3 being that I can't afford one.) Anyway, onto to the original topic of this thread, which people seem to have forgotten about .

Yes the term "Best 360 Game" does imply that it should be an exclusive title, but maybe Mirror's Edge just looks better on the 360 than it does on the PS3. Now I know people will say that I'm wrong because the PS3 has better hardware, I've heard this all before, seen it happen countless times, but I can't see another reason for them to choose that as the best upcoming 360 game.

As for me, I'm trying to earn some money so I can get a PS3, dying to have Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain and whatever that super secret game is when they come out.

The only strength the 360 has are its exclusives and maybe price if people don't add up the costs. Those are the only reasons someone would pick it over the Ps3. No, seriously, what other sensible factors are there?

I find the PS3 controller to be cripplingly painful to use. Awful, flimsy sticks in the wrong place make it such a pain on my thumbs after a short amount of use. Xbox controller is pure bliss to use for hours on end.

Apparently Fable 2 doesn't count. Oh right, because it won't live up to expectations and won't do anything new. Unlike Little Big Planet and Mirror's Edge, which will both be as totally great as the hype suggest. Because they're magic.

Well, I find the Xbox controller annoying, but I like the PS3 one - It's all about style, you can't make one console everyone is happy about.


ON-TOPIC ( Since no one else talks about the topic anymore ): You know, when GC or E3 chooses a game of the show, it's not about how good the game is, ITS ABOUT THE PRESENTATION it did on the show. GeOW2 and Fable2 didn't win, because Mirror's Edge had more to show to the public, more videos, more information, etc etc etc. That's it. It's not about the game, it's about the presentation.

How many people here watched E3? Not the Zero Punctuation review the real deal. If you watched the Microsoft press conference you will know what Im talking about.

Microsoft made a big friggin deal over its 3rd party titles! FFXIII, Mirrors Edge, GH4, Rock Band 2 and Fallout 3 got just as big a section as Gears 2 and the new Live interface! That's why its alright to have a third party title as the Best 360 game. Because Microsoft is making a big deal over all the third party titles that could have been PS3 exclusives but aren't.

SIDE NOTE: I'm not a 360 fanboy don't go there. I want the new Ratchet game and Killzone 2 as much as any PS3 owner.

SIDE NOTE mkII: Because Square Enix signed on with Microsoft we might be seeing Kingdom Hearts 3 on the 360!

I assume by "something original" you mean something that isn't a sequel, and I suppose you're right on that front, the only non-sequel exclusive Xbox has coming out is Infinite Undiscovery, and going by Square Enix's recent track record, it won't be very good.

But I don't think sequels should be counted out of the running for best game of each console. Just because it's not something new doesn't mean it can't be great. I personally can't wait for Fable II and GOW2.

I won't pretend to know anything at all about Fallout 3 or the rest of the series, I've never played any of the games in it. As for Halo Wars I don't think it will be very good, I love RTS games but I don't think the Halo concept will work very well. But who knows, I could be pleasantly surprised.

Well, first off, I'll point out that most of the games that have come out on both the PS3 and the XBox have played better on the XBox, as far as performance goes. Perhaps Mirror's Edge continues in that tradition?

It does seem odd that they wouldn't pick an exclusive, but then, I've often found that awards shows tend to pick games that they like and make sure they get awards, even if the awards dont' really make sense. Remember when Bioshock won best music? It didn't have the best music, but they wanted to make sure it won lots of awards. I guess they felt like plugging Mirror's Edge.

And now, to step off-topic for a moment...

Indigo, I'm finally going to say it. And this goes for Jumplion too.

I own a PS3, and every time one of you goes on your full fanboy mode, you make me a little more ashamed that I bought it, and a little more ashamed to admit that I'm a member of the Escapist community. Any post you make about the PS3 or the XBox comes off as arrogant, unwilling to see both sides of the argument, and is poison to intelligent discussion. For a long time I wondered if you were a Microsoft rep in disguise, since your posts really do seem to drive people in that direction, but I've decided that you simply aren't aware of how you actually sound.

I've never wanted one on this site before, because I'd found a place where intelligent discussion was prized over salesmanship and teenage angst, but there are times where your posts made me wish we had an ignore button, which is a shame, because when you're not talking about the PS3, you can make good (and sometimes funny) points. But your posting style on this one issue colours my ability to read anything else you've written with an open mind, and that really bothers me.
