I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm pretty sure your sources are full of shit.

Nolan has explioitly ruled out the Riddler [http://gnews.com/no-riddler-for-nolans-new-movie-the-dark-knight-rises-17201057105328/] as the next Batman villain. He also long, long ago ruled out both the Penguin and Catwoman.

My bets for the next villains are Deadshot, the Black Mask or Clayface (who could be an excellent villain in a production with the budget to do a good shapeshifting character).
Note that this thread dates back to August when speculation was rampant, and this

The third Batman movie by Christopher Nolan finally has a name. July 20, 2012 is set for a summer 2012 release. Original dates say that July 20 could be the release. The proof is here: Rumors fly about the newly titled Dark Knight Rises Nolan has a few surprises for "The Dark Knight Rises," including a possible new villain.
Just bumped it today. Things certainly get confusing when such an old, topical-at-the-time thread comes back from the dead.

It's funny how many people started running with the info on the first page again since that post was made, heh.

Both Johnny Depp and DiCaprio are amazing actors. I'd be happy with either one of those as The Riddler.

But, after admittedly not reading all of the thread, I made a silly post.

Neil Patrick Harris would be awesome too.

On the news that Riddler won't be in it, all I can say is, Good. Now, it's not that I don't like the Riddler as a villain. I actually do. It's a great concept for a villain, especially as someone who makes a good intellectual match for the World's Greatest Detective. But the whole thing with the madness and style of the character reminds me way too much of the Joker. That's the issue I have with it. He's too much like the Joker, just after we got a surprising command performance that will go down as one of the better villain portrayals in cinema. My guess is that a lot of the Riddler talk came from fans who loved Ledger's performance so much that they practically demanded a villain/actor combination that could produce something that "lives up" to that performance.
I would rather see something that more logically fits into the plot of the whole over-arching story at this point, while also choosing villains recognizable enough to casual Batman fans. I don't think Hush, GWS, or Black Mask are known enough, so my vote would have gone to the Penguin, but apparently he's out, too. The other problem is that Nolan doesn't really want to do anything supernatural or scientifically unsound, so we won't get characters like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc or Clayface, either. I do like the idea of Catwoman in the movie, but I don't really know who I would cast. I wouldn't be surprised by Harley Quinn. In fact, I would guess at this point, considering that we saw so little of Two-Face as a villain in Dark Knight, that the duo of Quinn and Two-Face almost seems to be the most logical. Dent didn't die. The Joker's doctor at Arkham goes insane and falls in love with him and tries to avenge him, and becomes Harley Quinn. Perhaps the Joker even knows where Two-Face was planning to hide and tells her from Arkham so that they could spread more chaos together. Anyway, that's the idea I've got for that.
I agree that Riddler is very similar to Joker. Nonetheless, I - personally - don't think that I'd mind him as the main villain too much. In regard to Two-Face, I think that that's a great idea. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that can really happen; http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00017644.html and http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=9772. A good idea, nonetheless.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the third movie. I'm sure that it will be great; I trust Nolan.
