Hmm. Interesting. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this one.

As for the sexism, I have one question: If this is sexist, does that mean Touhou is sexist? I'm pretty sure that having an all-female cast isn't necessarily a bad thing.
What about Rinnosuke Morichika?
As awesome as Kourin is, some people don't consider him, since he's never made an in game appearance.

OT: I've been keeping watch on the game since it was announced. Looks about as good as Melty Blood, so I'm pretty pleased, been tired of the swill that passes for fighting games nowadays, I swear SC is just pick an agile character and button mash, stuff by Arksys is really good though... But back on topic,

My favorite characters from what I know are Filia, Valentine, and Parasoul, and I'll definitely be getting Squiggly and Umbrella when they come out as DLC... Although I'm enjoying all the characters, really good toss up if you ask me.

I just love the Mitsuru Kirijou paletteswap Parasoul has though, it works so well... Gonna be torn if this and the Persona fighter have close release dates.

Well, her family was murdered when she was still pedobear-age, then she was kidnapped by slave traders, implied to be raped, was mutilated beyond recognition, then was kidnapped again by a secret agency who turned her into a cybernetic weapon.

'Psycho' is putting it lightly.
Just wanted to jump in here with some Word of God via the developers--

Peacock was not raped. ;v ;
I am relieved because she is my favorite ever. I mean, her backstory's morbid enough without it, jeez... Just glad this was cleared up early.

Anyways, looking forward to this game. Immensely. It appeals to me in a ton of ways, mostly as an artist with an interest in its stunningly smooth animation and excellent character design, but also as someone who likes dark stories and wants to get into fighting games. :D

I fricking love that she has an attack that is a Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 reference.
I did a spit take when I heard her say "GARBAGE DAY"

I think i even heard one of Parasoul's soldiers say "Well, excuuse me, princess!"

Meh, when someone goes that far in torture (gouging the eyes and breaking the arms of a little girl) you can be pretty sure that rape is a hobby to them. In the real world at least.

Yeah, but not when the character's creator specifically and directly says that it did not happen... :/ You assume too much.

(Besides, this isn't "the real world", it's fiction.)

Read the link I posted for reals this time! That's a post from one of the developers, pretty much straight from the character designer himself.

Yeah, I certainly do.

But even if it wasn't actual rape it was a quite "rapey" thing.

God, I need to read more optimistic stuff.

lol, rapey. That's a new word for my vocabulary. Perhaps you ought to do that, lighten up a bit? I dunno. This game is funny in that way. People seem to be assuming it's more sexually-fixated than it is, imo. I know the cheesecake doesn't help Skullgirls' case in that regard, but eh, whatever. This thread isn't for discussing that. P:

Peacock's "theme" really does seem to be strictly violence to me, anyway. I was already a fan of early animation-- they're certainly right on the money when they say that her particular brand of crazy was based on old cartoons. Quite a few of them are really, really deranged. Hell, even Steamboat Willie had Mickey abusing lesser animals. He kicks a piglet! XP There's more violence than you can shake a stick at, lots of really trippy or malevolent situations too.

Oh, yeah, those are the ones they use on the Reverge blog, right? Gah. I gotta gush over all of them. Peacock is top dog to me, but I can't help but love the other characters too. I'm a hopeless dumb fan. haha.
(I secretly hope for these images to be on any future merchandise, tee hee. That black-and-white film reel Peacock is just begging to be put on a tshirt.)

Though I don't think I ever saw that group one. :0 I only ever saw just Peacock sitting by herself like in that image. That must be for some Japanese... thingy, considering the writing on it and Parasoul holding that flag.

Good show! You're on the road to recovery :p

The game looks solid, unique, and has good experimental systems in place. I like the team ratio thing, but I wonder if it'll become like CvS2, and having high-tier ratio 1 characters is pretty much forever better than a single ratio 4 thanks to characters like Blanka and Sakura.

What I mostly wanna see from the game right now is cheap shit. I wanna see what starts to break the game, and use it. From long ass combos to abusing the infinite/bursting system (which I've seen a bit of; makes me happy :])

Considering the Skullgirls crew have been going to many gatherings and getting people to try and play it, it'll probably have a decent following in the fighting game community. A lot of response has been positive, and they usually find out any broken stuff during these showings as people constantly play and get better at the game.

I think one of the biggest things is to make sure Mike Z releases this before EVO, so there can at least be a tournament of some caliber there and everyone can see how awesome the game is. Even some people in the scene came back from EVO wanting to play BlazBlue (they didn't last long though).

I'm in it for the Kneesocks paletteswap of Parasoul. Squiggly and Umbrella will be free DLC as far as I know. There will be more characters later (Including male), which are also free. I think.

I don't know if there are tiers. The fighters look balanced...ish. Cerebella seems to do an immense amount of damage.

I imagine it's hard to find anything cheap, though. Infinites can be broken, only lets you break them when it determines that an infinite is happening...not sure how it figures that out though. It's not determined based on combo hits...but even if you had an infinite, there is damage scaling. Less time between combos means less damage. =x

I have seldom seen a super-balanced fighter yet (Blaz CS2 did alright, Tekken players claim their game is balanced, but I haven't played it much and also don't believe it ;P). With the amount of freedom the game gives with assists, ratio characters, and uniqueness of characters, there will be some huge gaps between the characters. It's the nature of any game, but I like that a lot as long as it doesn't make it damn near unplayable.

As for the anti-infinites, yeah that system is in place. But I've seen Cerebellas baiting out bursts in mid-air, landing so it misses them, and resetting with a command grab, which as you said, does a grip of damage. That's smart and I wonder how viable of a tactic that'll become (reward/risk of bursts vs letting the combo continue). But like you said, there is huge damage scaling, so it probably won't hurt to wait a bit to confirm a burst instead of putting yourself in a riskier situation. :s

I guess we'll all know once we can hit the lab with this game. :) Hype!

No, God! Please no.

No to half hour combos, dark phoenixes, street fighter twins, cheap overused characters and the same tactics being used in every damn match.

I hope the team makes good in their word in bringing a balanced fighting game.

There are only eight fighters. That's a pretty good number to make sure everything is balanced. Something like MvC2/3, though...yeah...that ain't happening.

They seem to be getting all this community feedback for the express purpose of making sure there are no cheap tactics in the game (or at least as few as possible). P: It seems pretty valid to me. I guess that if you wanna find any stuff like that, better start early before it's patched XP

I'll add this to the OP, but I forgot to mention something important.

The developers consider Skull Girls' setting to be 'Dark Deco'. Which...is a subgenre they've made of Art Deco. Since I suck at explaining things...! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Deco

That goes into music, as well.

The composer is Michiru Yamane. She did the soundtrack for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Edit: I also changed the pictures for Peacock, Filia, and Ms. Fortune. Because I'm cool like that.

I think there's another name for the type of setting, "Diesel Punk", but I think that's more about the advanced technology housed in art deco aesthetics, not so much the moody setting. I do kinda wonder what "year" Skullgirls takes place in, if that would have any impact on the idea of it...

Oh, also you ought to note: this is a small thing, but Peacock was made by "Dr. Avian" at ASG Lab 8, not Last Hope. Last Hope is a part of Lab Zero. There was an interview where... one of the devs, don't remember which said there was more than one "section" of the lab and clarified that Peacock and Painwheel didn't come from the same lab exactly.

Ms. Fortune's pic is broken again. Just thought that you would like to know. :p
